The year is 3061, and the 2nd Company of the Rogue's Armoured Irregulars, 'Angelus' Company, is mustering at Outreach for an offensive.
The target is undisclosed, but in addition to the mechs of their second company it has been revealed the Irregulars are fielding 4 squadrons of Vulcan fighters and two mighty Pinto class corvettes, RAIV Myrmidon and RAIV Valorous . Rumours on Outreach indicate that they have attempted to contact their old allies, the Green Hearts infantry company for ground support.
Stranger still, they seek to hire a mixed mercenary unit from those present on Outreach. Several corps have offered units, eager to be involved as the Irregulars have indicated a high pay check - but none have been accepted.

However, a former RAI member, Thom Frankfurt has been wandering the Inner Sphere once more after being released from his contract. As usual, the barely comprehensible mechwarrior wandered from spot to spot making contacts, scamming employers and generally keeping an eye out for any opportunity - This time though, he's set out with the goal of creating his own mercenary company. On Outreach, he has registered the unit with the MRBC and begun recruiting, trying both old friends from years long past and likely looking fresh faces he spotted stepping off a dropship.
You are his recruits. You've counted yourself amongst the newly founded 'Thom's Terrors' for only a matter of days when Thom contacted you again, informing you the unit has been secured for the RAI job and to pack your gear aboard the Achille's Pride.

But even the hardiest of warriors, despite the rumoured riches to be had are nervous and you aren't them. Where does a merc corp get not one, but two WarShips? Why have they turned away such notables as the Dragoons who run Outreach, despite prior working relationships? Why are Irregulars often seen escorting or being escorted by Comstar Adepts?
So far, the only man who knows for sure is Captain Vantas Strider. The eccentric mechwarrior seems to be in charge, despite holding the same rank as both corvette captains. At the least, it's his name on the recruitment ads.
The recruitment ads that read simply:

Quote

Rogue's Armoured Irregulars Second Company, 'Angelus' recruiting combined arms mercenary unit for heavy fighting operations. High pay. Possible recruitment option. Danger: Extreme. Details secret until contract is confirmed.

And you cannot help but notice your commander was positively cheery about not having a clue what the mission was.

This RP is by invite only. Player limit has been reached and exceeded, barring a second Nor Azman showing up there will be no more additions to the RP.

I went dark so long that I don't think it's fair to insist on a 3 day post limit. I'd like people to post once per week. If you can't that's fine, but if you do end up going quiet expect me to harass you. If you're going to be gone for some time, let me know. This is GM led, so no throwing extra things into the RP without discussing it with me first
More importantly, don't be afraid to discuss stuff with me. I am a kind and benevolent GM who will only try to murder you a little for mischief.
Side plots are welcomed, but please approve them with me in a PM before beginning writing on them - I don't need a full script, but an outline of the idea will be required or I'll just walk over it. Trying to work around a sideplot when I don't know what it is is a level of difficulty I'm not looking to engage this time round!

As stated above, the RP is beginning on Outreach. I'm going to let Thom start the RP with the specific manner and method of him contacting you about boarding the Achille's Pride and accepting the mission. From then you have two days of in character time and two weeks of OOC time to post anything that happens before the Jump when the taskforce leaves the system.

So, approved players: Restart your posting!

Adrianna Delfino
Callsign: Dove
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Build: Slim
DoB: 5 May 3029, Age 34
Current vehicle: Modified Centurion CN9-D, designed to partly mimic the CN9-D5 (refitted with double heat sinks and a Rotary AC/5)

Adrianna Delfino earned her 15 minutes of fame on the planet of Sevren during Operation Revival. There, she was a newly-minted lance commander, running escort duties for civilians fleeing the Clan Wolf invasion. One of these groups were a camera team from ALR Media, who recorded her running battle with three Clan ‘Mechs from the back of their evac APC. Images of her leaping from the forest in her Phoenix Hawk to deliver staggering blows before retreating back out of sight to cool down soon spread across the Inner Sphere, if for a short time, as a sign of resistance against the technologically superior Clans.

Once the invasion was halted, Delfino briefly settled down with a husband (nuclear physicist Leopold Zegers) and had a son with him. The marriage did not last, and she left both him and her son behind to become a combat evaluation pilot for hire, eventually settling into an extended relationship with Quickscell. The company provide her with equipment nearing mass-production, which she takes into combat by joining mercenary companies going on contract. The mercs get a rare bonus of advanced technology, the company get a combat trial of their equipment, and Delfino gets paid twice.

Her latest charge is a modified Centurion CN9-D. Quickscell have fitted it with a proof-of-concept Deleon Ardent-5 and a double heat sink system as an alternative to the NAIS Model 2b featured on the CN9-D5. (Note: I've got a few different builds for Adrianna's Centurion, depending on whether we go with a C3 network or not. Let me know how you'd like to proceed)

Combat Assessment: Very cool under fire, which some mercenary commanders have wryly observed sometimes works out bad: when the push comes shove, Adrianna is still drawing two paychecks, and is often on the ball enough to work out which will pay her better. She hasn’t broken many contracts in favour of her corporate sponsors, but the fact that she has at all unsettles many merc commanders.

Name: Li-Hua Taishu
Callsign: Spokes
Gender: Female
Date of Birth: 11/11/3021
Age: 39
Place of Birth: All Dawn

-Appearance-
Pronounced Asiatic features, lanky frame, pale, almost sallow complexion

Height: 5' 8"
Weight: 145 lbs.
Hair Color: Black
Hair Style: Long, graying at the ears and temples
Eye Color: Brown

-Background-

Li-Hua Taishu was born and raised on an airless, tidally locked planet in the All Dawn system. The only child of a fifth generation Mechwarrior, she grew up following her parents as they moved between the subterranean barrows that housed the planet's small population. The family BattleMech brought a steady source of income-- her father ran the 'Mech, her mother handled the ledgers. Though never wealthy, Li-Hua grew up with as much food and education as the barrow communities could provide.

Li graduated from a local technical school and was soon accompanying her father during his frequent surface excursions. Although occasionally used for security duty, the 'Mech was most often put to use as a mobile work platform, and Li became very good at maneuvering the machine in the tight confines of construction areas and underground work bays. She assumed ownership of the 'Mech when her father became too ill to operate it, seeking employment off world in order to pay for his medical expenses. Li spent five years working small time support contracts in the Periphery before becoming embroiled in a local civil war on the planet of Kharkand. She signed on with the newly formed mercenary company Vega's Havoks in the aftermath of that conflict, and has been with them ever since.

Li's Scorpion is over four centuries old. The machine has been adapted for prolonged exposure to hard vacuum and the cockpit boasts long-endurance life support equipment. The jump seat has been removed, and the area behind the pilot's chair has been converted into a tiny living space, not unlike what one would find on a long haul civilian truck. The 'Mech has seen considerable action in service to the Havoks, and as the well of replacement parts has run dry it has become more and more difficult to maintain. The gyroscope finally gave out in early 3059, and the machine has been laid up ever since. Li was largely unable to make the transition to a bipedal chassis and by the end of 3059 she found herself piloting a desk as the contract officer for the Havoks on Outreach, with a considerable percentage of her pay going towards transporting and storing her stricken 'Mech.

The new year brought a chance encounter with a representative of the Vining Engineering and Salvage Team and opened an unexpected door-- VEST was in the process of gathering field data on quad performance as part of a MechWarrior survivability project, and offered to rebuild Li's Scorpion at a substantial discount in exchange for regular performance reports and data dumps from the 'Mech's BattleROM system. Discount notwithstanding, Li has had to take out a substantial loan with a bank on Outreach in order to pay for the work.

VEST has performed a very thorough rebuild of the Scorpion, replacing its power plant, cooling system, armor and gyroscope, as well as refurbishing the 400 year old frame. While great care has been taken to maintain the original silhouette and "either/or" weapons configuration, the upgrade is a vast improvement over the base model. A bank of specialized capacitors gives the particle cannon additional hitting power, while the six-tube drum launcher holds a nasty surprise for anyone expecting a stock load out. VEST has also retained the machine's work platform modifications, with tow hooks, stowed lift cables and cargo netting, portable electric cutters/welders and external power ports allowing the 'Mech to provide a basic level of field repair support.

Combat Assessment: Li is an above average pilot with a knack for exploiting the general disdain and ignorance many MechWarriors have of quadrupedal BattleMechs. Her formative years were spent in a hostile environment, and she has developed a very methodical, disciplined piloting style. While Li can react and adapt to chaos on the battlefield, she will rarely seek to cause it. She remains a member of Vega's Havoks, operating on a subcontract to the Terrors for the duration of the mission.

(OOC @ Sparky, I'm down for whatever. Though Thom is a firm believer in C3's, homing missiles, specialty munitions, and mine fields. But, the mech I'm eyeballing at this second doesn't have any nifty things like that...

Can we get a number on how many people want to get a C3 lance/company going?)

Don't think you need to specify that it's OOC, Thom. The entire thread is meant to be OOC. :D

Name: Juri Kutsuu
Alias: B.B. (Black Butterfly)
Mech:"Jiang Shi" (Modified Stalker STK-3F)
Born: 3036

Description: An Asian woman of Japanese decent, with a defined build. Darker circles under the eyes due to lack of sleep or poor use of pain medication. Track marks from frequent needle use along her arms, often hidden by long sleeve kimonos during formal gatherings, and by long sleeve shirts when informal. In personal spaces, she often wears a white kimono that is heavily blood stained, a garment that she hasn't gotten rid of claiming it's superior comfort and fabric, despite the red stains along the arms and hem.

Bio:
A very 'Happy-go-Lucky' attitude towards her colleagues, Juri is a very 'well to do' person who focuses on the small pleasure of life. There is almost a child-like wonderment to the world around her and the people she meets.

When first meeting Juri it would be hard for most to guess that she is in constant physical pain. She is diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrone (CRPS), but due to complications, is unable to have the appropriate surgeries. Her days are filled with a regimental physiotherapy and scrounging for some form of pain relief.

She has been on painkillers and addicted to them for as long as she could remember. While difficult to get a hold of, she has tried to keep on hand some access to morphine, which is one of the few painkillers that allow her to sleep.

When piloting her Stalker, however, much of this changes. She is known for a keen focus on her missions, and it is often asked as to how she can even do her job with CRPS. Often times, she just answers "When you're being shot at, for some reason the hurt doesn't matter that much anymore." It may be for this reason alone she continues with her vocation, being a Mechwarrior to the best of her abilities.

Juri's last name has gone through changes to dissociate herself from her family and her house. While still holding some vestige of honour, after falling away from the Kurita military, Juri has begun a campaign of bounty hunting and raiding. Under the belief that the Clans will come together again to make another attempt towards Terra, she has made it a personal mission to hound them at every turn, often times with dire cost to herself and others.

She views this aggression as a kind of galactic surgery, and that the Clans are a cancer in humanity's history that needs to be violently attacked and cut out. Now taking on contracts to better aid her in doing so, she is ready to pick up her quest again and continue dedicating her life to the complete eradication of the Clans and the stain they represent among the troubled reformed Star League, which she views as a sacred and greater calling than any house could become on it's own. For this she is regarded as a traitor, in her own eyes though, she considers herself to be a necessary evil, and only hopes her good nature can keep her conscience at bay long enough to find death in the battlefield.

Simple modification, the STK-JSH1, Jiang Shi. Basic bit, removed the SRM6 and Ammo in the torso to add 5 tons of Cargo Space specifically for setting up raids. It's one of the original mass-produced STK-3F. No, it's not C3 but that would be due to her having little way to afford to modify the mech further, get the upgrades that were avalible at the time, etc. So it's a fairly low-end mech with alot of tonnage. That being said, it provides support with LRM and Large Laser fire, and still has enough close-up punch to kick someone's teeth in.

@Thom

Yea, the way I see it, alot of the retrofits were brought on for major companies in the 3039-53, by 55 they were producing alot of the newer tech, but the old models that survived the succession wars had to go somewhere. Larger factions were probaly trying to get rid of the older mechs wholesale trying to get the money for more impressive machines, so relics of the 3025 would probably be more likely to land in freelancer mercs.

It also adds to how out-classed the character is in the mech department, making the Clan advantage still very prodominant, meaning I can actually write them as a real threat as opposed to how they are represented in the 3060s era, which is great for game balance but doesn't help so much in the story telling aspect.

Let's be honest here, I have rarely played characters who had any of the super-weaponry or skill set in battle, and it's for a reason. Mostly because I wouldnt have the first clue how to make such characters interesting without it eventually falling onto the mech being the determining factor for the character as oppose to the character defining the mech.

Dont get me wrong, if I some how get a mech that is clearly a better suit for the character, I would take it, but could you really imagine Juri or Rick in something like a Black Hawk (Nova) or an Annihilator? The only character that works with for me is Barret and that's because he's more an illustration on how I would approach hardened-badassery than an actual person with depth.

Hope this doesnt screw up too many of your lances plans.

Doesn't mess up anything actually. I'm actually glad you have that monstrosity, it'll be useful to have something carrying a big stick when we tango with the Falcons. And what you said about the old school mechs getting sold off cheaply makes sense, though personally I'd think they'd end up in garrisons and militias first. I'm looking at a bunch of the old school mechs, because a lot of the new ones just don't do anything for me. After all nine out of ten times a real role player will pick something that they think looks cool over something that's technically better but not as cool looking.

This was always my favorite command mech. The basic premise is that the three big weapons bays are designed with everyone's favorite clan tech in mind. They aren't modular, but rather everything from the power cables to the pre-loaded software is meant to make the retrofit easier than it would otherwise be.

Personally I love playing with shiny toys and feel no shame in giving them to my characters, but I do see where you're coming from Mac. It's exactly why I've completely stopped writing my old Gavin Felth character in favour of Vantas. Vantas is fun, Gavin is boring.

Think I've decided on a mech. No, I KNOW what mech I'm bringing. ;) Sorry folks, Thom is going against the expensive ammo and high-tech gear that he (and I) would usually want to use. :) And it's not even an assaut mech. Gonna have to sleep on this one though... I need to plan out this post. Might need a day or two for this one...

Cees Thomas Anthonissen-Bradford (now Cees Anthonissen)
Callsign: White Wolf
Rank: Lieutenant (LAAF. Not currently serving, but still commissioned)
Role:Tactician, heavy recon.
Gender:Male
Date of Birth: 3036
Age: 25
Planet of Birth:Coventry (Lyran Alliance/FedCom)
-Appearance-
Height: 180cm
Weight: 72kg
Hair Color: White
Hair Style: Side-parted classic military cut (1940s era combed back)
Ethnicity: Germanic/Scandinavian
Eye Color: Pink
Build: Light, wiry build. Tone but no bulk.

Background: Cees was born and raised on Coventry into the privileged life of the Duke’s household. A product of an arranged marriage to cement industrial ties with a planet in the now Free Rasalhague Republic, Cees strongly resembles his Scandinavian ancestors. Distinctively though, he is an Albino. Growing up an oddity in the Duke’s household, but otherwise mostly ignored in favour of his older and much more socially able sister, he had no early aspirations to becoming a mechwarrior. Prince Victor Steiner-Davion visited often in the years following the initial clan invasion, cementing ties with the Duke Thomas Fredrick Bradford. His sister Stasia hero worshipped the Prince and aspired to his success. Cees fast came to resent the favouritism and attention granted to Stasia, choosing to follow her into the Coventry Military Academy to focus on academics and command in an effort to show her up. Shunned by most of his fellow students for his appearance and over-defensive disposition, he took mech training as a calculated attempt to gain influence and prestige over his peers. He reasoned that dedication to studying past engagements and tactics would provide him an intellectual advantage over most on the mock battlefield.
Spending countless hours in simulators and pouring over Inner Sphere military history, and more recent clan traditions and tactics, he quickly came to out-smart and out-maneuver his peers. Gradually, he began to gain their begrudged respect, much to his selfish sister’s frustration. Accelerated to Stasia’s grade and due to graduate at the same time, their competition became fierce.

The Jade Falcon Incursion of March 3058 gave the siblings their wish to prove themselves in combat, but in a way they could never have imagined. The clan forces swept through Port St Williams, seeking to take the Academy. The most senior student, the teachers entrusted her over him for a command position during the evacuation. Cees was thrust into the background again, fiercely hating being deprived of the chance to show his potential. His jealousy was humbled before the clan onslaught however, heavy fighting between unblooded clan warriors and his fellow students and teachers forced upon him the harsh realities of warfare. Reading the fight and staying out of danger, he watched his classmates, teachers and budding friends slaughtered as they gave ground. Realising too late his own cowardice and pettiness, he rushed in to assist. Taking heavy damage to his Phoenix Hawk while covering his sister’s lance’s retreat, he was forced to eject. Attempting to flee the city, he was quickly tracked down, injured and captured.
Detained and taken as a bondsman for curiosity by his defeater, a swift counter-attack by the Coventry Provincial Militia to liberate captured civilians freed him once more. Returning to the Militia’s headquarters, he then learned that the counterattack had been led by his sister. Hailed as a hero, and refusing to admit that Cees had in fact saved her from a similar fate to his own, Stasia basked in her victory. The personal revelation of his first battle forgotten, Cees’s hatred of his sister began anew.

During the following weeks he helped educate the resistance on clan tactics, allowing the resistance to mount an effective guerilla campaign. When Steiner re-enforcements arrived, the remaining resistance fighters linked up to form a counterattack. Still recovering from his injuries, Cees insisted he fight. Giving captured clan mechs over to the Steiner commanders, they in turn awarded his ingenuity with a new Uziel-2S, straight from the Defiance production lines. Not to be outdone, Stasia lead more Militia attacks against the clanners. Deliberately ignoring the advice of her brother during the the Whitting raid in the closing stages of the conflict, Stasia was killed “protecting” a flank of the raiding party. In death, she was again, hailed a hero and was granted a state funeral once the Jade Falcons were negotiated into a withdrawal.

Ignored once again in favour for recognition of his sister’s “sacrifice”, Cees’ hatred boiled over.
Rejecting his noble status and name, over the few years since, Cees has travelled throughout the sphere, using his cunning to get by. He has honed his skills as a schemer and planner of everything from elaborate cons to military raids, retaining the alias “the White Wolf” as given to him during the closing battles on Coventry. Recently outsmarted, double-crossed and taken for nearly everything he owns, he has returned depressed to Outreach to retrieve his valuable Uziel. Torn between returning to the potentially lucrative cockpit of a mech but having to face now long buried demons and selling his last connection to his home, he is currently keeping a low profile, debating whether or not to take his old mech out of storage.

Cees passively appears quiet, cold and calculating. Coupled with his distinct and strange appearance, this is unsettling for most people. He will refuse to give any personal information beyond his current profession or the job at hand, appearing slightly nervous when pressed. He will however attempt to socialise anyway, trying awkwardly to make conversation. Ego driven, any attempt to appear smarter than him will crack his poker face however, angrily challenging or demeaning whoever dares.

A stock 2S model when he received it, Cees had a c3 slave system installed in the place of the mech’s left machine gun, dropping also half a ton of ammo to make the weight with a view to increase the mech’s tactical significance and the co-ordination of his guerilla fight on Coventry. Achieving significant success in the use of the system, the mech nevertheless sustained damage in the final stages of the conflict. It was repaired and re-armoured before being placed into storage, however it still shows pockmarked scars of battle damage across its otherwise pristine paint job. Originally intended as a replacement mech for a Wolf’s Dragoon regiment accompanying the Steiner reinforcements, it is still painted in classic gunmetal with, ironically for Cees, distinctive white warpaint on the sides of the cockpit module, emulating but not quite matching the wolf unit insignia of the Wolf’s Dragoons. Despite limited experience with the mech itself, Cees’ would only require limited time either in the mech or simulator to become re-acquainted and back up to scratch with his piloting, his excellent memory for detail hastening the process.

Character: Thom Frankfurt
Born Warlock, St. Ives Compact, 3028 Age 34 years old
6'2'' Tall, with wiry muscle, with fair skin and gray eyes a long mohawk that he never puts up only lets it hand down past his shoulders. He has many tattoo's particularly unit insignia's from merc units he ran with for awhile, plus many tacky/trashy tattoos. i.e. lip prints in a kiss mark upon his neck, the word 'HardCore' across his knuckles. A bloody rabbit's foot/black 4 leaf clover/and bent horseshoe with his call sign 'Bad Luck' around them.

Wears black paramilitary cargopants with a heavily studded black leather jacket. Vintige heavy metal band T-shirts and combat boots. Carries an nakjama laser pistol, a poly carbon knife and a set of brass knuckles. Since the events of the Windborne Raven RP he's grown quite paranoid about how easily he could have been killed a dozen times over, so he's taken to carring a canvas rucksack with an extra energy clip for the laser pistol and two smoke grenades and two flashbangs. Along with a 1.5 liter metal canteen of water, a few mres (he hasn't checked the date on them yet, but when he does he'll find out that they are leftovers from the 3rd SW yuck!) and a small med kit everywhere he goes.

Thom is a New Avalon Military Academy dropout due to grades and 'conflicting views' with his professors and fellow students (most notably Kai Allard). Right after dropping out, he went to Solaris 7 to try fighting in the arenas. But when he arrived his X-two time Solaris grand champion father (who also paid for his tuition, and wasn't too happy with him dropping out) gave him a BJ-3 BlackJack and told him that if he didn't have the disipline for school, he wouldn't make it on Solaris. So he left Solaris and joined up with his uncle, Po Spiros...

The two then ran with in with several different merc units that were unsuccessful. Eventually one of their last units turned to banditry and the MRBC cracked down hard on them and their unit was forced to disband.

Luckily Thom got to keep the BJ-3 because he totally had no knowledge of the bank/jewelry store robbing's taking place on another continet. The Spiros/Frankfurt combo then joined up with another group with the job of garrisoning Pacifica. Uncle Po died fighting repelling a Combine raid in early '49, and since then Thom has drifted from place to place, freelancing himself out where he could, his journey ended up going out to the FRR and the events of the Windborn Raven unfolded.

After the attempted uprising/coup, Thom stayed behind to help rebuild as the other units went off on their own way. As a sign of gratitude the locals showed their appreciation, free meals/drinks here, free tattoos here... But, it wasn't too long before he shifted from helping the locals out to taking advantage of them. After a few disagreements and outstanding bills the locals not so kindly asked him to leave. Catching the first ride out he could find he headed off towards Barcelona in search of the guys he fought the Dalian Guard with.

Landing on Bareclona just in time for the Clan Invasion, Thom found himself right in the middle of the Jade Falcon onslaught. Thom gained much needed experience fighting the Clanners alongside the RAI, Vulkaneer's, Dragoon's, and Skye Rangers, during those few grueling weeks but unfortunately became dispossessed in the progreess. (RIP Swampthing. Posted Image) RP still in projress, can't go into much detail. Also his cousin/tech Marcus was captured and pressed into the technician caste by the Jade Falcons. (possible adventure hook)

When things became hopeless on Bareclona, he loaded up the 'Achilies Pride' with as many refugees as possible and bugged out on the back of a Rogue's Armored Irregulars jumpship. He then journeyed with them... somewhere. Deep in the black to a little unexplored portion or the deep periphery. To where the Irregulars called home, RAIHQ. Begrudenlly he signed on with the Irregulars and fought alongside them for a couple of year's before leaving to 'do his own thing.'

By 3060 Thom has made a name for himself on Solaris by winning a grand tournement, where he got his grubby hands on the Akuma who's pilot he killed by kicking a field goal with its head as the pilot was knocked out from an ammo explosion. OOC: True story I RPed that, what can I say, Banchee's kick hard. I'm throwing out the part where T became Grand Champ, though. We misinturpted the rules for AP AC rounds... and did it wrong. Still he won a nice sized fortune by gambling on himself to win the whole tourney, and was approached by representives to see if he had and intrest in investing in a jumpship company.

Pulling some favors and working for some 'unscrupious merchants' as well as winning himself back into his ailing father's good graces, Thom has been able to amass, part legal, mostly not, enough c-bills to start his own merc op!

By the time this RP happens, he's fought in the Capellan/St.Ives war on the side of St. Ives, but after his first few battles he knew that that was a loosing cause and left that warzone. He then headed for Outreach to sign up to start his own merc op. (I imagine that there's quite a bit of paperwork involved) And here we are.

Current affiliation, none though he has loose ties to several merc units, and has learned how to play nice with others since the Clan War. And is sympathetic towards St. Ives

Mech: Customized Marauder

Callsign: Bad Luck

Combat assesment: Brutally effective and opertunistic as always, Thom has proven to have a sharp tactical mind as a natural knack when it comes to the controls of a battlemech. Infact studies and performace evaluations have shown him to land shots from Particle Cannons 12% more often than mechwarriors of equal ability. It is unknown at this time if it is a natral affinity for the weapon, or some time of technological advantage.
