Can you (pgi) not ever make *mild* changes and see the incremental improvement before deciding to swing specs a little higher/lower? It's like you guys only have an on/off button for programming. The swings in buff/nerf are INSANE.

No crap right? WYFH!?!?!?

You only make SMALL, single changes that way you can measure what you did and how it effects everything.

Boosting missile damage would have been good.

Boosting misisle speed would have been good.

Either one would have made them more playable and silenced the whiney babies who can't fight mech battles but like to sit back at the HQ and press buttons.

But instead we get faster AND harder hitting missiles WITH orbital accuracy AND splash damage out the ***?? And as a BONUS ECM was made useless to boot.......

Seriously guys, have you even played the game? Sure it is a pain and sure you don't want to leave the house without ams at the moment, but it is really really fun (says the guy not playing lrms) at the moment. Battle is much less the brainless zerg horde than yesterday. People spread out a bit, take cover and try much much more to flank. Not saying it should stay the way it is, but this is not ZOMG unplayable.

Yeah, I've played it....played it all last night, about an hour this morning and just now an hour after coming home from work. I will tell you straight up, just about to uninstall. Not sure what games you have been playing, or what kind of super AMS you have. Spreading out and taking cover? For christ's sake WHY? Cover is useless. But here's how every game I have played has gone.

Drop in, walk out a bit, see a raven pop over a cliff, see the tag laser, and then watch 200 missiles decend on my mech at the speed of light with the first INCOMING MISSILE warning barely finished bfore I am blown off the map and killed. My AMS might fire off 50 rounds and kill one or two missilesFor those of my team lucky enough to survive a few more minutes I can see about 4-5 LRM boats grouped together on the other side of the map waiting for spots and TAGs to just pull that trigger again.

Missiles were fine before, like I said, maybe a damage bump (a SMALL one), or speed up the flight that would be fine and sure, you needed TAG and NARC to make them ubber deadly, you needed concentrated teamwork......but that's the point, nothing should be the ONE weapon that dominates the battlefield just by firing it. now we still have TAG and NARC, and ECM is useless, and missiles are just a one shot, always hit super weapon.

Hey, here you go, I am whiney and mad that gauss rifles have a 4 second cooldown and a range drop off, it's a Gauss...there should be NO penalty to damage for range and should fire every .2 seconds....and should do 30 damage....yeah, then it would be cool and super powerful.....let's do that. :(

I really hate this video. If any of you took a mech onto the training grounds with 3 LRM 15's or larger. Every mech except the Atlas dies in 2-3 volley's. The atlas takes 5-6.

It's not indicative of anything. It reminds me of political fear mongering.

This is exactly right I stripped a heatsink and .5 tons from my legs to add AMS. Guess who wins when my mech with LRM's goes against the LRM mech without AMS?

It's not worth noting that all the 'mechs in this demonstration die with cored center torsos and minimal damage to the rest of their frames?

I'm holding final judgement until splash damage is fixed. However, I suspect that SRMs and LRMs will require a boost to damage to remain viable.

Yeah, if they put missiles back to the way the used to be in terms of flight paths (when cover was actually viable) and maybe boost damage a bit, it would've been perfect. I don't know what this current patch did other than break the game for anyone who does not pilot a missile boat. I'm in a K-2 but in order to be competitive once again, I guess I should buy a C-1. Whatever the case, my friends have uninstalled and given up on the game completely. I like the game, but I need disk space too and if they keep doing game breaking patches instead of light changes, I guess I may end up uninstalling too. I hope they're working on a hotfix because this game has so much potential, if they make small changes!

Sorry. I'm with the other people who say that this was too much, too fast.
You altered 3 variables at the same time instead of changing one, and seeing the results it brought about.
Change in flight speed alone..... good. Change in flight speed, increased damage, and change in flightpath...... for lack of a better word.... stupid.

You guys went and pulled a "Blizzard". I'm disappointed.
Yes. Players will adapt. Tactics will adapt. Guess what else adapts?...... people playing the game.
I haven't decided yet, but so far, this is pushing me away from MWO.

This ^^^^^^

And I get the sarcasm at the end. Bit over the top, yeah. But most of what you said..... agree. I just don't get why they went and 1) increased damage AND 2) increased speed AND 3) "improved" the flightpath.

I can't believe that I'm gonna be "that guy" that whines on the forums...until now I took pride in the fact that I didn't do what I am about to do....but Dev's, you've forced me to do it, and believe me it hurts me way more than it hurts you.

DAMN! LRM's are freaking ridiculous!!! I know they weren't what you envisioned before the May 21st patch but this CAN'T be what you envisioned either. I've never regretted taking the $120 chance on the Founders pack, or spending literally hundreds of $$ since then to buy, Mech's Camo, Paint, etc...until now. Well, not exactly I don't regret having spent the money up till now but the premium time, 70+ days currently, that are ticking away, and I'm going to end up wasting lots of, not playing, until you return the FUN to us NON-LRM dependent players.

Man, after 2 matches I realized something was drastically wrong. The sky was FULL of LRM's going both ways and unless you managed to hide behind mount Everest...you ARE going to get hit (and probably killed). Come on PGI you're better than this.

You added frustration and a sense of futility...to where there was once extreme fun and thoughtful mech design.

Please bring back the MWO I love so much....

Love always (except right now),

Yeah.... Just finished my last match before this is hotfixed.

Even with my AMS equipped assaults, I'm having my center torso destroyed by LRM's without any other armor location being any more damaged than yellow; and that's with twisting to try and spread incoming damage.

I'm not taking a tremendous amount of damage, it's just all crammed into my CT. And, while I've long been a proponent of cover vs. LRM's, most cover is useless now. Missiles are moving fast enough and arcing high enough that LRM boats need not fear losing locks or hitting cover.

Seriously, I like LRM's. I feel they add some good variation to the game. But when they're centerpunching mechs like this, it's just not fun. I'll be back after the hotfix.

the thing about lrms is that they're better the more people use them

so when there's only 1-2 people who use them, they're terrible, people think "oh these things suck" and stop using them, and so fewer and fewer people use them, making them worse and worse, making fewer and fewer people use them

on the other hand, after the patch, a bunch of people were trying them out, so suddenly there were lots of people using them. which makes them decent. which makes people who weren't using them think "oh hey these things are decent" and start using them. so more and more people use them, making them better and better, which in turn makes more people use them

yes, the flight path needs fixing. but lrm's as a whole, by design, are a kind of weapon that will always be terrible or OP depending on how popular the happen to be

Ok, I play 3 different roles, a brawler, a LRM boat and a PPC sniper. And this is my view:

One thing for sure, most of us here would agree that the lrms are a little broken. But, I do think that a little adjustment towards the flight-path of LRMs during indirect fire + spreading the damage across the mech (and not at CT, no matter what reason they are, whether its because of the high-angle and missiles or because of the splash damage issues) would bring the lrms closer to what's intended.

Alright, other than all the raging that has been going on here, the new contents added to the system is pretty impressive.

Sure, PGI has not gotten everything right with this patch, but, as a whole, (in smaller bits), its has gotten some things right, some things wrong. What's really important now, is to not break those which are working perfectly, and only work on those that aren't really working. (I am software engineer btw, I guess I can understand what they are going through, with the pressures for deadline either from the management, or the customers themselves).

HEADS UP, PGI,

The new map looks absolutely beautiful, especially if you are in a light mech (closer to the ground). Of course, it definitely did not turn out to be a ppc sniper's heaven, which is good.

How about BJ? Its great to see a jager's little brother jumping around, trying to get shots in with those autocannons. Not seeing BJ doing any BJ on the pinky Heavy Metal is pretty sad though.

PPC updates, and BAP updates are spot on. The introduction of new modules like the seismic sensors and UAV (nobody shoots this down though) is a great addition to the module family.

All in all, good job. And keep up the hard work, I will be expecting a hotfix to the missile arc angle and splash damage from you guys, and the LRMS would pretty much be at where they should be.

Hum...

I haven't played MWO in about two months, but I have been keeping an eye on development to see how the game is progressing.

Reading this thread has made me decide to put off trying the game again until this is fixed. Not a particularly appetizing tidbid contained within a patch that I thought was looking pretty good.

I'll try again next month.

ROFL - A Testing Ground Video

Do you know that the Testing Ground does not give an appropriate picture of weapon damage?
Missiles do 2 to 5 times the damage than they do in the live environment!

You got a cite for that? What IS true is that armor is way lower in the mechs in testing grounds AFAIK.

Welcome back to LRMWarrior Online. The Atlas-K and Stalker-5S are smiling upon you.

However, the X5 is screwed.

I agree...I just got slaughtered. LRMs were raining down all over...it was crazy.

Yeh its a shame this has come out, i have seen a few people put their mechs away in the garage because the playability unless your an LRM boat is just terrible.

I was really excited for this patch and i will say that i think Canyon is amazing, i love it. The UAV is pretty cool too! I am yet to try out the seismic sensor (makes me a sad bear..). All other weapon fixes and bug fixes are just smothered by the level to which this missile issue ruins the game, which is really big shame because this patch had a lot of potential to be really quite awesome. I havent even seen any mechs testing out the AC changes, MG damage boost, even PPC's seem to have vanished.. ..its all just LRMS! No doubt it will be once (*when*/*if*) the LRM's are fixed that other issues are identified as player actually use other weapons. I only even saw one Blackjack because everyone was bringing out LRM boats!

On a finishing note for the dev's, keep up the good work and all, but for the love of davion please please please take it easy on the changes to the missiles and really test them thoroughly - they seem to keep being a recurring issue which has a big impact on many players deciding to not play the game :(

^^^^^^^ That sums it up for me.

1) The new map looks pretty but is horrible to get around without jumpjets.
2) The Blackjack is ineffective against missile boats since it's loadouts are focused on energy weapons
3) I can't believe how terrible this has been screwed up, I've gone from near obsessive levels of playing to only playing MW:O until disgusted and then jumping into Neverwinter. I am now considering Hawken, backing the Heavy Gear Kickstarter or just figuring out how to install MW4 on my win7 system.

And I was an LRM Boat driver but sitting in one spot and spamming the trigger isn't the way I want to play this game...
I actually loved MW:O so much I built a PC to play it. Now I feel like I've been LRM'ed in the delicate parts...

they messed up with the indirect fire, the new map is probably their best map... even without jump jets theres plenty of places to get out of the canyons and ravines you just have to know where they are... as long as they hot fix the arc on indirect fire LRM warrior will go down, LRMs will have their place and direct fire builds will be ok again... the issue is they need to hotfix this faster then slower till then everyone is abusing LRMs to death.
