Besides, they can also do valuable like TAG and marking with NARC.

I'll pilot just about anything, but I admit I prefer heavies and lighter assaults.

Lights are more fun.

Notice how you *totally* don't have to take them seriously? Even if that's what you prefer to drive? :)

I really want to get my hands on the 20 ton Thorn?
Haha! No but seriously I will most likely be caught inside the light and the medium mechs.

Now it's not to say there will not be pilots out there who CHOOSE Assaults and are darn good in them, but aside from those few, it was always easy to spot the new players who chose the Assaults just due to their loadout and armor ability, but ended up dying repeatedly because they didn't know hot to utilize the Mech. This is tactical warfare, afterall, no? :)

For me, the Heavies do it. Better mobility than an Assault, with decent punch, but a small sacrifice to armor. The Timber Wolf has been a personal favorite of mine due to his excellent loadout capabilities. I can save multiple role variants and play to the style needed.

Timberwolf was always my favorite too. I mainly fought C1 battles in mechwarrior 2 on Mplayer. I always piloted a timberwolf/madcat, or if I had to go lighter, I'd pilot a hellbringer. I don't think piloting a mech over 70 tons makes you a sissy, but I agree that the 100 ton leviathans were to unwieldy and slow, and only newbs piloted them.

Much rather play a heavy (or medium) over an assault mech - anyday. Marauder, Catapult, Crusader, Rifleman - so many fun mechs. Mobility and Firepower!

I prefer medium or heavy, myself. Something about being too slow to be useful comes to mind when thinking about atlases and whatnot.
Give me a Warhammer or similar, I'd be more useful in that.

a Catapult with a bunch of Rocket launcher 20's attached in place of the LRM's. Because nothing beats the look on the face of the enemy who rush you to get within safe range of LRM's just to realize they are about to have a very bad day by way of numerous high calibur carrier pigeons =)

Being that this game takes place in 3049 we've got double heat sinks - no problem driving something other than an assault 'Mech, particularly something like the WLF-2 Wolfhound.

Being a Steiner loyalist, though, I'd really want to ride something more like a Zeus or Banshee.

Which are, of course, Scouts for us lyrans :)

I hardly ever pilot an assault. I'll bet that you'll see plenty of vets willing to run lights and mediums.

If that be the case, then I'll be that one guy who is sitting in the 100 ton assault 'Mech with some Gauss rifles and stuff and vaporize your 'Mechs in a hurry.

I believe i will be pilot a light/medium as i feel heavys should be a somewhat rare sight.
Personally i dont take this game as arms race shooter but more as universe and from my knowledge heavys be damned expensive and scarce, the mediums be the workhorses while the light do the recon.

But at time and if its in the game i for sure will sit in a Marauder sometimes :P

Give me a good old fashioned 55ton Bushwacker, and bring on anybody. speed mobility and just enough firepower to make assault mech front armor squishy.

Jump capable heavy or medium, i bring firepower where i need it when i need it, and unlike an assault wont get engaged when my enemy decides to, get out of combat on a whim and pound em so my mates can tear them a couple new ones

And if all else fails, jump them in the face :P

*edit* tho i find the idea amusing to get up and dirty with a banshee *scout* ^^

Mediums please.... Or if they do it right.... Lights......... I would 100% pilot something as small as a Firemoth if the speed is there, or something as silly as a BA or Elemental is the Bonuses are truly there.
