You are missing the point, and it is glaringly obvious that you know very little of about this topic. It is irrelevant if you can buy drugs or whatever with it. It is like saying that you should not use USD to buy games since it is the number one currency for drug trade...

Also, if you think bitcoins are untraceable, go back and do your homework. It is very difficult to trace, but if there is a large scale illegal activity the responsible people will probably be identified, making it a very bad idea for illegal transactions. Cash is much safer for anonymous transactions for example. My suggestion has nothing to do with hiding transactions or anything like it.

All I am saying is that PGI could sell more MC than they are doing now if they would accept bitcoins. That could mean more profit for the company that is making a game that you like. What is bad about that?

Or you could just convert your bitcoins to real money and everyone would be happy.

You have zero evidence that accepting ScamCoins would increase sales. You haven't even offered a corroborating case to suggest such sales increase would happen. You're just making an unfounded assertion based on personal preference.

This just sounds like several steps down the path to RMT farming outfits actually having a reason to pay attention to MW:O.

So, just no.

Most Reserve Banks won't touch them due to the underlying issues with the currency. Anyone who actually understands the underlying ecomony also won't touch them with RL money, as there is nothing to back it.

Actually, on second thought, maybe this isn't such a bad idea after all...

Honestly, at this point, just about anything would help....

In fact, that might be where the rainbow map bug came from...

Evidence? If I could prove what the future of economy would look like I would be a very, very rich man... Meanwhile, do you have evidence of the contrary?

Could you please explain more about the farming scenario? It is something I have not taken into consideration.

(Well, the whole point is that the reserve banks should not touch them, it is decentralized currency you know...) I don't see why PGI would not touch them. We can buy games from Humble Bundle directly with bitcoins for example. There is a pretty large trade of Steam keys at BitMit.net. If I go through the trouble of converting coins to my local currency I might as well spend them on other things, like food. If PGI would accept bitcoins I would certainly buy more MC, and I am sure I am not alone in this. They are missing out, that is all.

If bitcoin are so valuable why are you afraid to convert them to currency that PGI accepts?

Not fear. Convenience. Why do you think Humble Bundle accepts bitcoins? Why do you think there is a 3rd party site that buys Steam games for you if you send them bitcoins? If everybody were happy about selling their coins for local currency, then use a credit card to buy games from Steam, that site would not have any business. But they do, and that proves my point.

That's a weird logic? Do you regularly convert your valuble $ into Russian rubles?

Would you want to convert valuable money into a currency plagued by inflation?
One of the potential pitfalls of bitcoin is actually that it's worth is likely to raise with time, not decrease. That means not investing them at all and waiting is a tempting strategy. It's why inflation - in moderation - is actually desirable. There is no point in hoarding money if it will lose its worth over time, better invest it now in a commodity that either keeps its value or will at least give you something "useful" now.

(And to me the other problem is - to "mine" bitcoin, you need computing power. Which leads to people essentially wasting precious computer processing power and thus also electrical power to produce currency, rather than for useful stuff. Say, cancer research.)
