In any form, whether they be enemy mechs, turrets, infantry, etc.

Would you want there to be AI and Co-op game modes, eventually?

It's not a priority and it shouldn't be until the house is in order, but I'd love some co-op scenario missions. Or even 12v12 team games with base defenses.

They have more fundamental problems to work on, like the netcode or just patch deployment in general.

AI is very different beast, and requires significant work to get working well.

I would love to see bot matches

would make it easier to get new players into the game

basically group up, and go to practice grounds, but vs a team of AI enemies

hard to encourage people I recruit to stick with it after getting stomped time after time

Does the CryEngine come with innate AI of some sort? I would think they wouldn't have to make everything from scratch.

It comes with an extremely simple AI. I don't know how well it would work with Mechs though.

Ammunition and Heat generation would probably have to be disabled for AI.

A: Yes, but not as a pilot. Players will only ever be able to pilot a BattleMech.


Unless they plan on having those things just sit around as props they will need some kind of AI to govern their behavior.

and tanks and VTOLs etc would be way simpler to implement

as they would likely have only one or two main weapon systems

and less moving parts

and 360 turrets

etc

What are you talking about? Bots are already in the game. I see them all the time, loading up in light mechs that just charge head first into the enemy line only to die a few seconds later. It's really bad AI, sure, but it's there.

The fact this game doesn't have a "horde mode" is mind boggling. It shouldn't take much to create a game mode where waves of AI spawn and try to take your base.

Yet others do not. I would like it implemented, Whether it should take the form of a campaign, or horde mode, or scenario based would be an interesting dilemma. Furthermore what would the cbill gain be on these modes compared to PvP? There are many questions that need to be answered but I would like a different mode to acclimatise new players to MW and the vastly different playstyle that needs to be used, while also allowing challenges to veteran pilots to test their skills against the AI in a situation which feels like a part of the MW world.

To answer the question: No, I don't think we'll ever see AI in MWO, at least not piloting mechs or anything of significance, and if it IS ever put in I doubt it would be for a very, very long time. Bottom of the barrel priority, if it's even in there at all.

Not going to state my feelings in regards to AI. I'm not opposed to it, nor do I dislike it. I just don't think it'll ever be implemented.

I can already see how that would go... "The AI has an aimbot!"

This game isn't the standard MMO, it's a PvP MMO. Like AA used to be. I remember when they added AI and co-op to that game, it wrecked it.

If their work on AI is as timely and quality-oriented as their executable file...

The AI will either not do anything, or start mysteriously shooting everything with head-shots from behind while being inside terrain obstacles 6 minutes into the game. The problem will be resolved "soon" - and your grand-children will find themselves discussing how the AI no longer stands inside of buildings and the head-shots no longer happen as often, but 25 simultaneous airstrikes are called in on each player controlled mech with an inescapable blast pattern. Interestingly, the AI will have been given a 'teleport module' to help make sure there was some asymmetric balance to preserve the challenge the AI offered.
