Can't wait to see something on the Kintaro.
It looks like it could be an absolutely brutal mech.

I almost have a playable machine now. Getting 10-20 FPS depending on the map. Very CPU bound though, so 12v12 is killing me. I definitely want to update the guide ASAP.

Hope you get it there. As a new player, this has been the single most useful thread on the forums to me. I only wish I'd found it a bit sooner.

Just wanted to compliment a very well written effort, and a good resource for newer players.

I do want to echo one comment I saw a couple of times though: the center torso energy hardpoint is one of the strongest features of the Stalker 5M and Misery. I use those variants extensively for that, and i can't tell you how many times that beam has saved the day when otherwise zombied.

Good to hear.

Very good guide overall, hopefully the 2.00 Version will be as good as the old one. Sure a lot of work, with all the changes to the meta and new mechs.

Thank you for this guide.

However, I do have some Jenner and Raven quibbles:
If the Raven 2X is a two star mech with 125 max speed, 4E1M, no ECM or jump jets; then why is a Jenner K a one star mech with 4E1M no ECM but much more speed, an extra module slot, and jump jets? Are two missile tubes more important than speed and mobility on a light? Seems to me that the Jenner D and F should both get Comstar medals, and the K should get another star for two. It only looks bad compared to the JR7-D. Compare it to the Raven 2X and which one is better and why?

You will occasionally find some hapless 4X pilot moving at Assault mech speed, dragging an auto cannon behind him, in a futile attempt to actually do damage with a ballistic weapon

I found a typo here. http://mwo.smurfy-ne...52097cd83ab68e2

Improved: RVN-4X Jumpsniper

Edit to add: Still limited to 14 shots, for a max damage of 14*20=280 if all shots hit at optimal range. After that you're left with nothing more than harsh language. Ditching the jets for another 7 shots is another 140 damage, but decreased mobility.

This is a really great guide, and a much better read for the new player than the Mech Tier List.

However, it very badly needs to be updated in the Post Ghost Heat World. Most mechs are rated based on the number of PPC's and Gauss they can pack, and while both are still usable weapons... Nobody fears a 6PPC stalker anymore.

Likewise, Ghost Heat severely impacts some other mechs, like the good old A1: 6 SRM6's is much less impressive in this day and age - the mech always ran hot, and can't afford ghost heat. Firing groups of three launchers at a time is much less impressive than the 36SRM alpha of old.

So... Yeah, great guide, but badly in need of an editing pass.

Added the Quickdraw review. More to come soon. Full overhaul of the guide will be coming in the next month or two as I have the time.

Edit:

Also, since I know people are going to call BS on my Quickdraw review, please reffer to my post http://mwomercs.com/...02#entry2712502

Thanks heaps for your guide! I only recently started playing MWO and guides like this are great information for the new player.

It's from reading others experience, theory crafting, opinions and debate that helps me understand not just the mechanics but the craft of fitting out my mechs.

Forget about the likes of Zharot telling you that your opinions aren't just worthless but dangerous? Seriously, only his opinion of your opinion is dangerous!

I agree with Maverick and many others here, this is a great guide!

I look forward to reading your updates and expansion with all the new mechs coming online. I hope to pick up some pointers on some of the Phoenix mechs.

Keep up the good work!
Cheers Bro'

Glad to see you admit that 80Bit's list is much better for new players than your tier list. I knew you'd come around, Mav! Truly an honorable competitive player, a model for those yet to come.

Just wanted to drop in and let everyone know I am not dead and am working on an updated/improved guide. Because of many balance and mechanic changes since the original guide, I am basically having to rewrite the entire thing.

It depends on UI2. Without it nothing is possible. Its nearly done. I promise. Scout's honor!
