Idk about you folks, but I'm getting sick of endless cap sessions..
why fight when you can cap.
and you can always just say " a win is a win, if you dont like if find another game"

I guess skill is over rated..

end of rant

You could try starting a team chant at the start of every match to get your buddies in the right mindset.

ahh RvB. Im so ready for the new season

and its not my buddies. we are the ones left to fight off the whole enemy team while the other lance goes off and caps. They dont want to play, they just want to cap and get a win. Thats what gets old

Or you could just pilot a suicide DDC, pick a cap point and sit on it. Then when the lights get there you sweep the leg, leaving your team free to cap the rest.

Might be a little more playable if team balance/Match Maker was not so bad.
But also play style changes over an event, mainly to "Lets get this over with quickly" type of play.

You could kill the cappers? Just a thought.

What do you do when its just you at the cap and your whole team is busy "capping" (aka walking in circles in the middle of nowhere) Kill everyone yourself?

Since i don't care bout k/d, i end up making the ultimate sacrifice: staying on home base, preventng cap, while my team caps. I always get to fight. Its always a tense battle against greater odds. And the satisfaction i get when i stick ut to the opposing, cap happy team is priceless.

I enjoy the change in playstyles during tourneys--had a couple killer matches where I convinced my team to sit back and defend and we slaughtered them one by one as they tried to speed-cap.

Meta is dynamic, if you don't shift your playstyle to meet the current meta, no matter how temporary it may be, you'll never have fun.

I'd argue that winning is a skill, and clearly the enemy team has more of it than you.

I also have 0 clue how this post relates to tournaments, which only rewards doing damage, and cap sessions actually completely negate any chance of being on the leaderboards...

Back in my day, we didn't have any sissy matchmaker - you dropped randomly against your enemies, and you went to war! Up hill! Both ways! In the desert snow! At 80 celsius! ;)

Back in my day, you got matched against 8 man tryhards in gausscats, with no fog on forest colony, and you would ask for seconds! We didn't have any of this fancy tech 2 stuff. You got your atlas, with 4 small lasers, a gauss rifle, and maybe some SRMs, and you were proud of that atlas, young sir, because it could fire for more than 5 seconds without overheating.

Tournaments are the best time for ambushes... I love the smell of Burning Light Mech in the first 2 minutes of a match. yes, I have been called a cheese boater Alpha warrior before... a few times maybe... but if you're capping right off the bat, then you're just gonna have to accept the fact that I have a 180XL for a reason.

That comic is every game I ever played with my PayDay/L4D/Quake Live/etc crew. "Sorry guys, baby is up, just a minute!" "Oh man, I gotta log guys, I didn't realise it was eleven thirty!"

Then I think back to "12" years ago and recall a younger Garth, drinking from a 2 litre bottle of cola and seeing how fast I could get kicked out of CS 1.3 pubs 'for hacking' with a friend.* So I used to be 'skill3d'. Then they changed what 'skill3d' was. And now my 'skillz' aren't 'skill3d', and what is 'skill3d' is weird and lame to me. And it'll happen to you too.

(*He beat me at 1:35, my best was just under two minutes.)

Instead of making light of the problem, it sure would be nice to have the valid point addressed. Tournaments / achievement periods do create a . . . less pleasant game. Tonnage limits sure would help. Not tonnage matching, limits.

limits would be nice. however, there would also need to be a min as well as max.

can't have 8 assaults. against 8 jenners. though things that effectively segregate the community are always tricky. people want to play, not wait for 30 minutes while the optimal match is created

As a man of Irish blood, it's in the genes that I must make light of serious things.

And while I agree things could always work better, I think it's a pretty large step to say that it's a less pleasant game. I get dozens of PM's, emails, etc, from people who really enjoy them. So who do I listen to?

Both, it turns out. So I make changes, but they won't be sweeping, and frankly I think they are enjoyed by most people.

actually i've seen a lot less lights and thus capping this past event. was trying to get my conquest wins yesterday and in about a dozen matches our side had lights 3 or 4 times tops. and i'd usually be the only one of 1 or 2 mediums. figured conquest only would be the time i'd actually see the lights come out...well except for the 1-3 the other side had every single match but 1 i think. though i did see more of them when i switched over to assault- kinda counter-intuitive to me,but even then not much capping except the big maps.

and to forestall the incoming comment- i don't own any lights myself (damn you Urbie where are you?!?!). i'm a mediums guy.
