Having a 3rd person option hardly makes MWO anything like MechAssault

If anything, it continues the tradition of previous mechwarrior PC games.

Previous mechwarrior games are known far and wide for the terrible balance, hill humping, ridging, and poptarting that comes with jumpjets, 3rd person, and boated everything.

I don't think it'd be a good idea to carry on with these traditions. Do you?

You disagree which is fine. Your opinion... I stand by mine. What I dont want to see is 1pv becoming a relic of beta. If PGI pulls it off and makes a great 3pv that can appeal to everyone then Im fine with that. I dont think there is any question that 3pv is being added to attract a larger lobby. Its not a bad thing as long as it doesnt split the community. Like you said, we will see. 3pv destroyed MW4's community. I hope you are right and it ends up being great.

The developers have previously stated the largest quantity of players belong to mercenary corporations. Because of that, CW is also being designed for micro transactions (correct me If I'm wrong). For example, mercenary corporations requiring a "small" MC fee to even form is an example of showing the largest target group is intended to play the game in 1st person view. When CW turns into micro transactions targeting mercenary corporations...that's a tale-tell sign that the largest demographic is __.

If this is how 3rd person view is outlined and implemented, correct me if I'm wrong but I'll need 2 accounts. One for fun, and one for SRS BSNS. My fun account will belong to a core faction and will have 3rd person view accessible. My SRS BSNS will more than likely belong to a mercenary corporation, be locked out from 3rd person.

The way it is phrased it almost sounds like 3rd person is the relic and devolves gameplay. I have a suspicion if 3rd was allowed to compete against 1st directly...the 3rd person players even if veteran v/s veteran would be at a significant disadvantage to veteran, 1st person ace pilots who've been playing for 6+ months with over 8,000 drops (like myself).

I am very interested to see how 3rd person view impacts low elo brackets v/s high elo brackets. I'm curious if the gameplay value is significantly increased for new or low-skilled players. I'm also curious how 3rd person view is used at the highest elo brackets with the absolute best competitive players. I imagine If I can find 3 [JW] players interested in finding out once its live I will have a lot of fun testing this :). The problem is, competitive players are less likely to play 3rd....I've already mentioned it on TS and immediately flamed worse than here on forums...if that's any indication.

See you in a couple weeks. Trust me, you're just having trouble accepting changes that might not effect you while you have pre-assumtions about the entire thing.

You'll see that nothing has really changed from the core experience, your 1st Person View will still be here, and that the game is better than ever with the combination of new features.

Just a heads up;
Calling your bluff.

On the contrary I visit the forums as often as I play;
And I totally represent the rest of the communities demographic and all.

Heads up; the game is in trouble whether you want to realize it or not. Game developers don't make sweeping changes unless something isn't working. The only thing that has actually made it from the dev blogs to in-game, are the mechs.

They reneged on the coolant issue and 3pv. They haven't made a single major deadline. Still nothing to show for CW. Clans will be six months at the earliest after the final phase of CW (sure they said 90 days after but when have they ever made any self imposed deadline). They totally ruined any kind of pilot progression by ditching the trees and making lazy cookie-cutter pilot efficiencies where some don't even work properly.

They blamed closed beta testers for going open beta sooner. Beta fatigue my ***, could have just said they were out of money. Role warfare is non existent. Info warfare has so many band-**** they might as well just rip it out and start over. They have yet to get missiles of any variety working correctly. Don't even get me started on pilot modules...

The only thing that has gone right for them is the mech designs, cause God only knows the rest of the art is un-inspired, what with its three color palette. Thank God for bloom and color filters though.

I find it even more interesting that they have now devolved to blaming Crytek for their engine woes. Must be nice to never be wrong.

3PV

Viper69 : If we are going to be able to choose to play against people using 3PV or not to, how are you going to address the then fractured and smaller groups that then have to wait in queue for a match that meets their perimeters?
A: There will be two modes Normal and Hardcore (FPV) only. We anticipate most players will play the first mode leaving the hardcore mode for the those wanting a challenge. 3PV will be going onto test servers in the next 60 days and we’ll see how it goes from there.

Ghost Badger: How does PGI plan to reconcile Community Warfare matches with 3PV and 1PV? How will they reconcile matches between teams with different preferences? Or do they plan to split the CW mechanic by viewpoint?
A: The plan is to have scheduled matches will be FPV only, since these will be performed between Merc. Units. Regular matches will follow the above rules (Normal/Hardcore).

thanks for confirming that the majority of MWO players is not here for a challenge. Thanks for confirming that PGI´s intentions behind design of MWO have stepped away from a MechWarrior Sim... thanks for confirmation that a in-cockpit view of a battlemech is considered "Hardcore" instead of normal... you really made my day,i still have to decide if i may laugh or cry...

at least give the so-called HC mode an xp and bill bonus, so people at least CONSIDER playing the game for real

Does anyone beleave this statement? Really? LOL! You have got to be kidding me. Would this be the same test team that has let all the glaring bugs to go live? Well then everything is great!!

Narrow minded much. It's not that hard. Put the camera slightly above the mech and down at a slight angle and moderately close; the camera rotating on it's axes and not the mech's torso when looking up or down. When you aim straight forward or up, you'll me looking into the air, not over the hill. When looking down, you'll be staring at the ground right in front of you as well.

Hiding behind the building, you'll see no more around the corner than from the cockpit because the line of vision will be the same.

Everyone QQ's because they are two lazy to think through the physics and visuals. This doesn't have to be mechassault or MW4.

More hyperbole, assumtions.

Wooooh implementing a few new features are sweeping changes!

Wooooh I say the game is failing whether you like it or not because I disagree with something you do!

Wooooh the game sucks but PGI somehow magically is making money! Such a failure.

How about we start calling it improving the game, because all first iterations of any feature are going to be the roughest.

Mech's and Mechbay
MrTarget: Why ditch the Orion from June's update?
A: We wanted to a mech with a slightly different meta game.

You say it as if it was an intentional change yet Alex has already said it wasn't intentional, see quote below. Can you tell us how the Quickdraw offers a different meta game? We already have a 60T mech, you're adding another jump jetter, which you're trying to tone down so why introduce another, and it also encourages boating with it's hardpoints, also something you're trying to tone down. How is that a different meta? The Orion would have filled a currently empty weight slot, offered a more balanced hardpoint platform which would avoid boating and it doesn't have jump jets, the Orion is the option with the different meta, the Quickdraw only continues the current one.

You guys were upfront about the Flea being delayed due to MASC not being ready, why are you conflicting on the reason for the Orion's delay and being very brief and not giving a detailed explanation?

Actually I think that it's a good thing that 3PV and FPV are different modes.
It could be called Hosh and Bosh mode for all I care.

Nobody is forced to play a mode he/she does not enjoy while also being sure that no one else in the drop has an advantage.
And there would also not be a real problem if the same applies to CW, it would just mean that there will be 2 different "leagues".

So yes for me that was a good AtD.

Cheers all.

I think you missed one of Alex's posts

Alex doesn't decide which mechs to work on first... He made the orthos for the Quickdraw before the Orion because that is what he was told to do.

The reason he was told to do them in that order was the reason Bryan gave.

You missed the part where Alex said the Orion being pushed back wasn't intentional where Bryan is saying it was. Those are conflicting statements I'm getting at. It also doesn't explain how they believe the Quickdraw offers a meta change at all (as it clearly doesn't) where the Orion offers a clear meta change.

Your entire post seems to have missed the points I was getting at, even with your quotes.

I don't understand why you are disappointed about:
  • 3PV being excluded from Mercenary Warfare
  • Additional Info added to Item Descriptions in UI 2
  • The fact that Lone Wolves will have their own Meta Game rewards, without having to swear loyalty a Faction
  • The fact that a Large Mercenary Corp won't automatically be able to steamroll through the IS
  • They plan on making manufacturer-specific weapon tweaks
  • More significant bases to capture
  • Base defenses
  • Introduction of Tonnage Limits for certain gametypes
  • Headshot notifications
  • Adding the ability to see friendly loadouts
  • Reduction of JJ Screen Shake to more acceptable levels
  • Added Training Grounds functionalities
  • and more upcoming changes with tournaments, Drop Modes, and info on the Test Server
I mean, if everything I just listed above causes you disappointment, then I am very sorry...

This! So much This!

I'm REALLY enjoying this game and it overrun any other game on my PC, I stopped playing BF3, FC3 and Company of Heroes just to play this game and I'm playing since February.
I LOVE every patch, sure they mess up sometimes but many people on this forums are horrible. There is no game developer in the game who could satisfy you, start adapting or leave.
3PV is coming and I'm looking forward to have some more possibilities with it.

It's absolutely puzzling to me that people are getting mad about the word "hardcore" being used to describe 1PV only games.

Im sorry but what's not hardcore about it? Mechwarrior has always had 3PV and if anything most people expect it to be in the game at least in some form. When I was younger you bet your *** I toggled into and out of 3PV all the damn time because "look at how cool my mech looks ********!"

I now know better about 3PV and would personally rather it be all 1PV because "that's the way it should be." But I'm not entirely against it either now that I've thought about it more.

The real problem comes when 3PV really does confer a significantly better performance advantage over 1PV. In MW2/3 it wasn't really any better and so it wasn't really a problem. MW4 was the game where it conferred a clear advantage. From what it sounds like they're at least trying to make it such that it won't be that OP if at all. And if you're playing relatively casual drops does it really bother you that much that a few people might be using 3PV as long as it doesn't grant them too big an advantage?

Besides which, the signalling is there that 1PV is the way to go if you want to be competitive assuming CW becomes one of the main draws for the game. Since the matches that should have the most effect will be 1PV only. If you were to play these only you could in theory avoid playing with 3PV users entirely even assuming the hardcore queue for regular matches was completely empty.

Again, in my ideal world this would be 1PV only. But it's really not the end of the world with 3PV going in. And don't lie to yourself. You'd toggle 3PV at least a few times to get a good look at your mech.

Adding third person and splitting the community is the single worst thing they could have done to this game. And then they're going to split the community again with separate EU and US servers. I have no clue what PGI is thinking, but the game will not last long this way.

The way i look at the 3pv is this.

Either they do it and a good community can be cultivated, or they do not do it and all that will be left is a small diamond core that can not sustain the game and will scare new users away (i have seen this happen in a lot of games over the years)

So while people might not like it, it is a better bet to try and aim for the "b ad choice" that have the most potential to turn in to something good.

But i guess time will tell.

One thing is to say something is coming in a year (or whatever) and have to wait for it, another is to say its coming in a month, then 3, then 6, then a year. That's not even counting all the false 3PV, coolant and other promises.
