I bet you thought you'd not see more comparisons between the two. Well, this is when I need to point out that the "arcade" 'mech sim refuses to put in 3rd person.
Seriously PGI. Your biggest competitor that is doing well in other markets won't put it in. Every single person on these forums is telling you not to put it in.Why, and I mean WHY are you insisting on it anyway?
Again, the arcade like tournament shooter 'mech game is refusing to do this because it would be too cheesy and damage the game. How can you still cheerily give updates on something that EVERYONE on the forums hates, and we can barely agree on anything? If we all hate it, I guarantee you quite a few of those people not talking hate it too. Just because the forums posters are the minority doesn't mean we don't have a cross-section of attitudes and views that represent the larger population and we all hate this.
I'm the first person to tell you to listen to smaller, more experienced focus groups than forum feedback but the last poll I saw was 160+ vs 5, and I've seen them even larger since 3rd person was announced. There's not listening to noise, and then not listening to everyone.
Why pour man hours into breaking the game worse, when we desperately need other tweaks & fixes?
EDIT: Again, perhaps if IGP is forcing you into this based on market research, you could point to the fact Hawken is doing well in those markets without 3rd person? Which 3rd person games are you trying to emulate? At this point I picture some completely clueless IGP Producer ordering this because "WoW is popular and it has 3rd person, make it happen."
EDIT 2: And if you stick it in the game find people are using it.. surprise, of course they will! It gives an advantage no matter how you slice it so yeah, people will use it all the time even if they hate it. It's kind of like playing 8-mans right now: Sure you can try to do it without running 6-7 assaults, but it's a huge handicap, so everyone just runs assaults. It doesn't mean that's what people want to do!
