So, MechWarrior: Online is for the more sim/technical oriented 'mech player, with great ties to BattleTech. Hawken is a 'mech tournament shooter that's doing very well (Including in the "foreign markets" PGI is so concerned about).

I bet you thought you'd not see more comparisons between the two. Well, this is when I need to point out that the "arcade" 'mech sim refuses to put in 3rd person.

Seriously PGI. Your biggest competitor that is doing well in other markets won't put it in. Every single person on these forums is telling you not to put it in.Why, and I mean WHY are you insisting on it anyway?

Again, the arcade like tournament shooter 'mech game is refusing to do this because it would be too cheesy and damage the game. How can you still cheerily give updates on something that EVERYONE on the forums hates, and we can barely agree on anything? If we all hate it, I guarantee you quite a few of those people not talking hate it too. Just because the forums posters are the minority doesn't mean we don't have a cross-section of attitudes and views that represent the larger population and we all hate this.

I'm the first person to tell you to listen to smaller, more experienced focus groups than forum feedback but the last poll I saw was 160+ vs 5, and I've seen them even larger since 3rd person was announced. There's not listening to noise, and then not listening to everyone.

Why pour man hours into breaking the game worse, when we desperately need other tweaks & fixes?

EDIT: Again, perhaps if IGP is forcing you into this based on market research, you could point to the fact Hawken is doing well in those markets without 3rd person? Which 3rd person games are you trying to emulate? At this point I picture some completely clueless IGP Producer ordering this because "WoW is popular and it has 3rd person, make it happen."

EDIT 2: And if you stick it in the game find people are using it.. surprise, of course they will! It gives an advantage no matter how you slice it so yeah, people will use it all the time even if they hate it. It's kind of like playing 8-mans right now: Sure you can try to do it without running 6-7 assaults, but it's a huge handicap, so everyone just runs assaults. It doesn't mean that's what people want to do!

I think it's probably the most infuriating, mind-boggling and pointless things they have wasted time trying to implement. I can only assume they are getting forced into it by IGP or a prominent investor.

To the OP. It took me to the end of your rant to realise you were on about 3rd person view. Is this in reference to the 3rd person view for the single player training ground?

Not sure if you've been keeping up on the updates, but 3rd person is going to be for everyone except competitive matches, with their current plan. Go read the last "Ask the Dev" answers where they spend the first half of it trying to sell this system to us that we really don't want.

Yes, but Mass Effect sold a lot and it was 3rd person. Ergo everyone actually wants 3rd person.

Also some people have stopped playing/paying due to issues with weapon/gear balance and lack of any, well, long term reason to keep playing. That's because what they really needed was 3PV.

That and there are tons of people who'd love a F2P game with no lobby, no way to control what sort of team you're playing with or against, etc. etc. if it had 3PV. Cuz, you know.

Charts or something.

I hate to come across as snide but the introduction of 3PV is synonymous with things like the Xbox Ones always on DRM. 'People love it! It'll make it better!'

What people, what better?

'Everyone loves having internets! Thus it's TOTALLY OKAY.'

.... so, you're lying because you don't want us to get upset that you're trying to shaft us.

'No no no, it's just.... hey! Did we mention that we'll be able to watch you with a camera in your home ALL THE TIME? It'll be totally cool!'

Not helping.

'You'll love it! It'll open up all sorts of amazing opportunities! Trust us.'

That's the whole 3PV thing.

You'll love it. They swear. It won't water down the game and completely, totally and irrevocably alter the games meta, combat and tactics in a matter far more fitting a casual shooter. It'll make it more popular because, really, who's more loyal than casual shooter fans?

I agree- with mechwarrior 4 people were basically able to cheat- in that they could see things and target things that they would not be able to otherwise.
