What dev blog is this in? Also didn't it work out for the Northwind Highlanders?

Dev Blog 1 says that Merc' Corps will be bidding on targets, presumably the people offering the jobs and allowing Mercs' to bid on them are the only people who can really pay for such things, the Houses. This means while you may take and control a planet, you're doing it for one of the Houses and not to build your own little empire.

I would amend this ... I think the number of worlds a Merc corp should be able to bid on should depend on:.

The size of the contract and the number of members they have.

There will be worlds that only require a lance of mechs. Others that require a battalion. If your corp has 2 battalions then you should be able to bid for 2 of the battalion sized worlds (108 mechs) ... or spread yourself thinner over 18 smaller company sized worlds (12 mechs)

agreed ;-) - as long as those worlds might be Merc-guarded but still remain part of the house which it owns.

Also, to prevent a house to be put to its end by the Mercs it employs, there should be a corrective mechanic limiting the absolute number of worlds a house can hand over to the more or less caring hands of those sellswords.

Ok, screw "Kill Urbies/Killer Bees", "Word of Lowtax", Goonswarm, "Hired Goons", "Eridani Fat Horse" or whatever, THIS should be our unit name!

Starship Troopers die to easily to be related to House Liao  ah also where can i look up some accurate info about goonswarm cause all i know about them is nothing good. Usually along the lines of "Ugh... its THEM!" or a reference to bad conduct such as TKing or something.

What would a BadBoysFromBananaBar insignia look like

I mean I know their theme song would be Thin Lizzy's Boys Are Back in Town but...

Anything bigger than a battalion or maybe 2 at the most would draw the attention of the major houses ... in a bad way.

So limiting worlds based on that number would work canon wise too.

as much as i love your arguments, there is one major sucky point that seems will be in MWO for me.

You NEVER lose anything.

This is one of the things i always HATED about WoW, and LOVED about EvE online. Losing ment consiquinces, there is a investment of time, hard work, and skill. Ware a game like WoW always felt cheap, i never had to worry about dying, there were never any consiquinces. On the other side of that coin, u feel great when u finaly get that mech u worked hard to get. All that time u spend learning to get the skills so u could pilot it how you want. It NEVER feels cheap when u have to WORK for your mech, and more importantly that you WANT to NOT die, cuz u worked so hard for it. Unline WoW, ware if u spent hours or sometimes days trying to get a set of armore, it never mattered if u died or not, it always felt cheap and i never had a connection with anything i wore. You feel practicaly attached to your ships in EvE, you work hard for them, even if you doint spend RW money to buy them. I cant tell you how many hours i spent to get a certin item, or ship. That kind of thinking led to better play, there will always be better play when there are actual consiquinces to a game.
Another great aspect of this i love is how it pramotis tactical and stratigic thinking on the part of players/ clans. You cant just RUN in to a wall of assault mechs now when you want to recon when there are consiquinces.

And comparing EvE again, i belive it made players better and care more about there choices. Hell, it should be there considuring how rare mechs are in canon.

It would be most inapropriate to show a picture here, the name was made up by me to honour the remembrance of a special bar - the banana bar - in the amsterdam redlight district. The rest is up to your personal imagination.

:-)

btw, never had in mind to taunt anybody. As I said in my initial post here, I like to see things apart from liking or not Goons, Eve or WoT.

I just like to say things how I hope them to be from MWO

That wasn't a bad taunt but a playful slap and tickle.

I truly hope this game is nothing like Eve. I have played Eve for a long time then gave up, the community is not accepting. It has become so elitist that it is disgusting. After dedicating many hours and Finally getting a carrier groups would at least invite me to larger battles otherwise i would be relatively on my own and hope i could somehow organise with them. I dont know why the origial posts praises Eve and i have never played WOT. Eve does have an amazing economic system and that is it. Also Eve is a sandbox game and i hope this game is not one of them. Mechwarrior is not a sandbox game and it would be a shame to turn it into one. I do agree with some points, especially the ones making the game new-user friendly and the no caps on guild numbers. Honestly though if we have to do the comparing game i would say Planetside is a better example of a game similiar to this, definatley not Eve.

Remember that merc companies cannot ply their trade on every world. There are core worlds that are managed by the dev team and cannot be altered by anyone -- I don't know how many there will be but don't expect to see mercs mucking about with, say, Luthien. Faction worlds which as the name implies is owned by a faction. Factions can fight over these, and presumably mercs can be contracted out to help with an assault or garrison. These are probably the majority of worlds considered part of the Inner Sphere.

Finally there are "border" worlds, which actually can be occupied solely by a merc company with no faction affiliation. I sincerely doubt there is any danger of a faction being "taken over" by mercs. One day you'll look at the star map and your eye will glance at the Periphery nearest your faction. You'll grunt in a minor glimmer of interest -- several stars have changed color -- but then the moment passes and you turn back to the important matter at hand, smashing those dastardly Mariks/Davions/whathaveyou.

don't know, really - and that's exactly the point where I cannot decide if they're to hate or like.

But your point is valid, can someone answer that question?

Love the post, I agree wholeheartedly and would love to see the battletech universe come alive. I love WoT and play it a lot but it just seems to lack something and I think MWO has the potential to fill that gap. Thank you for saying what a lot of us are thinking.

Hey

I have always been and still am an advocate for death of ship/mech.

It adds to immersion ... tension ... and makes for better, well thought tactics and game play.

Thats said it is SOOOO not fun when your shiny pimped out Battleship is ganked.

The key here for me will be that there are consequences but those conductances be balanced. We won't lose the mech forever but I hope the costs to repair and refit it be significant enough that we say 'OUCH'. I also hope that when our weapons get destroyed in combat then the repair bill to replace that weapon will be equal to actually buying a new one.

Here is the thing they will have to put in some sort of mechanism for players to gain super ammounts of of cash to make up for the fact that mechs can be lost. I don't think PGI is planning for that.
