I am usually teamed with experienced players since ELO. Before ELO my teamates would all run to opposite ends of the map and somewhere, I know they still do, but not in my games. :)

Dunning and Krueger called. They want their effect back.

Doesn't the other team have a similar change of getting "Noobs"?

My theory is that most players are average, and it's really the 1-2 exceptional players that tip the scales.

Actually, the opponent stands a bigger chance of getting "noobs/trolls/trials" on their team.

If assuming that "you" is some elite player who is good enough to hold of hordes of trial mechs.
you + 7 others = 46.666% chance of getting "the noob"
vs
8 others = 53.333% chance of getting "the noob"
:)

In reality though, both teams should be average in terms of noob/elite players.

Unless "you" are the "noob", and thus "you" have a 100% chance. This may explain why some people are having issues.

This is stupid. New players should be put in with veterans so they can learn faster. Deal with it.

Basically.

How did this turn from a discussion about the matchmaker itself into a bunch of jackasses projecting about 'pro tears'?

No offense fellas, but I played this game to have fun. Fun for me is fair competition, and the matchmaker gave me a good game less than 10% of the time. It's not my job to mentor new players, and murdering newbs isn't fun. So I quit. I'm not alone.

Some uninstall some don't. I didn't when I got whacked in my trials and later a freakin commando in CB by Founders mechs. Same all over again when OB started. Was that fun for you then destroying those who did not have the founders advantage? You think the noob is gonna be the same noob without experience after a month? Negative.

Yup, and when the whole Community decides they too do not have any responsibility, other than to themselves and their E-Peen, you are left with just the Grognards, Neck Beards and Neck Bearded Grognards.

Good luck having fun with that bunch, if you ain't a Card Carrying Member. LOL :)

Yeah, it would be great and all. But are you willing to wait for 30-45m per game? In which half of the people do not load anyway? Because if you make the elo drop you only with your own kind, you will wait for ages. Just look at other games that have very restrictive elo modes. You pay for high elo with extreme waiting times.
Maybe there could be an opt to "wait longer if the matching is better", where it takes lets say up to 15min to find a game, but the elo has less spikes and weight is more equal.
My guess is, it would be great to aquire data, but almost no one would be using it in the long run.

Man, rough crowd.

I'm definitely on the higher end of Elo and whatnot, and I can say that I've never really had a problem with 'noobs' (god, I hate that word) in my games - that's not to say they're not there, I'm saying that:

a) There are rarely such a proliferation of new players in my drop team that it really effects the outcome

2) I'm glad I get the chance to play with any and all players of this game, and take it upon myself to correct obviously wrong actions taken by the new guys.

Are the new players just supposed to grope around in the dark until they're at the 'uber leet' level you all expect them to be? Maybe it's because I'm in school for education, but the idea that the unwashed masses need to be separated from my unholy skills of wrath is asinine.

Get off the high horse, teach a player or two something that will benefit both of you. Or don't, and play better to compensate for them.

Either way, writing a post calling for the abolition of a mechanic somewhat recently implemented is pretty counterproductive, and sounds a lot like tears to me.

How exactly are we supposed to fight a battle, coordinate lance movements and targeting, AND hold the hands of players who don't even know how to target an LRM to fire past 180 meters?
Hey dude, I'm good, but nobody is THAT good.

Hopefully PGI will implement some sort of lobby system that allows the newer players to drop with WILLING experienced players. If I choose to go to the new player lobby and drop with them so be it. There should be some sort of tiered system that allows the newer players to play each other, and the more experienced to play among themselves. I would gladly suffer 5 minute plus wait times if it meant there was going to be a better game at the end of the wait, and I feel there are others who would do the same.
New players who wander around aimlessly or try and blaze in like Rambo ruin the game for their teammates who suffer a disadvantage right off the bat.
There could even be a blocking system, where when you see bad/stupid/idiotic behavior in game from a player, you can exclude him from being your teammate again. Maybe a three-strike system to account for the occasional mistake.

As much as I want to say, YEAH! to this.... you can't do a system like this. Bad players would basically be blacklisted after a long enough time, and trolling around for fun would have the same effect.

But yeah, a tiered, weight-matching system would probably be the simplest system that would actually accomplish some balance without a lobby system. A lobby system would help more than anything though, it needs to happen sooner than later.

I liked the video, and thank you for sharing. It is good, but it cannot remove the frustration of having a new player do stupid things that ruin the match needlessly for everyone. I don't want to win by blowing away a newb, and I don't want to be on the losing side either. The only way to fix this is to segregate them. It is one thing for a not so experienced player to be able to handle losing because of whatever reason, but when the main reason in a higher level game for a loss is so much as a two mech lead in kills for a side, and when your noob gives them an automatic one, that is unacceptable when it is so easily fixed as many players have suggested before. So far the best idea seems to be segregation.
