With a planned release (i.e shedding the eternal beta tag) for the end of summer, I think it would be wise to discuss the state of the game now vs. what PGI plans to have for its September release.

The patches since this announcement have been a tad underwhelming, with no great progress made.

This is the last June patch and all we got is an essentially DOA mech and another ridiculous thing to decorate our cockpits with.

So, six patches. Six patches to add the basics of CW new maps, new mechs, weapon balance changes, 12v12, 3PV(ohgod) and the list continues. If they're anywhere near serious about launching in late September, all of the remaining patches have to be twice the size of this one, with actual, meaningful additions to the game. So my question is, can PGI pull it off? How do you think this game will look come Sept. 21st?

In my own opinion, if any patch is as small or underwhelming as this one for here on in, we have a lot of broken hearts incoming. And fast.

Exactly what I'm saying. We've got so little time left and this game is supposed to be a polished product. I've always advocated PGI PGI PGI PGI rooted for them to create an amazing game. But as it stands. I've got a substantial investment I'm considering if this game does not turn out like I had anticipated.

If things trickle in at the current rate, no. I just don't think enough time is left. July and August need to be HUGE months otherwise...I just don't know.

Yes, they will do it.

Please do not forget that the size of the patches matters.
There are so many things they're working on it and we do not know anything.

I'm playing since closed beta, and they had done a great job until today. The changes are big and great.

You have to wait and trust PGI only.

The obvious problem with that assertion is: why don't we know anything? Why not let the players know about these amazing changes, to get them hyped up and lure in new players who were on the fence about signing up? If you're going to do something amazing, why the secrecy? This isn't about being "entitled to know everything", this is the simple principle of advertising your product to the target audience.

They still count my account in their total accounts, so yes my opinion still counts.

Deal with it.

Maybe they want to hold back some secrets for us players.
i like it when they announce "some very big thing" and the time to waiting for it.

it's like a movie. if you know everything about it, you are not so happy when you go into the cinema and view the movie you bought for.
it's my opinion of course, but i like secrets so you get from time to time some new stuff.

You may be right, in a sense - I'm sure design-wise they know more than they're saying, because that's part of the fun of a big reveal. Having said that, the PR department is awful... Infrequent, oddly worded newsletters (days after patch notes), hard data and direct communication to the player buried in ever-changing forums in no particular order, near-useless main webpage, and the majority of the advertisement I've seen outside of this site has been lowest-bidder style banner ads with "FREE TO PLAY MECHWARRIOR" with about the same quality and distribution as those weird everquest-art-knockoff browser games.

Is it just one guy assigned to this? Isn't the point of a publisher to put some money, muscle, and experience behind new products?

This game is a zombie, it's dead but they just keep plodding forward.

Then you must be really pumped about CW, we've hardly got any idea what that's going to look like whenever it arrives, or how progress on it is going. :) There's a difference; viewing the movie is experiencing the movie, so an over-detailed trailer can ruin that. But you don't fully experience a computer game till you're personally playing it, so what reason is there not to start previewing great stuff early?

I hope you're right, that it is some misguided attempt to build anticipation. Because the alternative is that there's nothing behind the screen.

I don't think so. Which sucks because if they most likely fail, no one is going to touch this IP for a long time
