To be fair, the Locust is supposed to be one of the most common and cheapest 'Mechs in the Inner Sphere. It's essentially the BattleMech version of the old army Jeep that's been around since WW2 and still seeing service in some parts of the globe, and in other parts been replaced by...other more modern "jeeps".

That's all well and fine, except for the fact that the there is a real money dollar value associated with the Phoenix variant. I'm not opposed to the mech itself. Whether it's common in lore or not, in the context of it being an incentive with a monetary value when the gap between it and a standard variant is so great.

let's keep in mind the the 1V has to throw on 4 heatsinks while a spider 5K does not with an XL 255.That's 4 tons in heatsinks where if it could at least put in an XL175 it could lose one of the heatsinks and pick up some speed with only a half ton difference. That's about as ridiculous as having an assault mech with a ballistic hard point and not being able to equip a single AC/20 when a Jager can equip 2 and even smaller mechs can equip 1.

I focused on speed in my original post but there were various ways they could make a case for the 1V:

1) what I talked about, increased speed compensation
2) simply give it 2 more tons of possible armor to put it closer to the heavier lights
3) give it an ECM hard point
4) give it optional JJ's

The 5K can still equip an ER* Large laser and jump jets in addition to having more armor and the same speed.

SDR-5K

vs.

LCT-1V

If there's a case for the 1V, I'm really not seeing it beyond the Phoenix variant bonuses. It's not like comparing jeeps. It's not even like comparing a jeep to a humvee(modern "jeeps"), the gap is that big. It's more like comparing a jeep to an Armored Personnel Carrier :)

I had my doubts when i bought the founder's package, but I've spent so many fun hours in this game, i'm pretty sure the extra 12 mechs will be also fun to play with and upgrade xD

Cheers guys!

I finally was able to upgrade my package to Overlord the night before last. Thanks Vulix and my friends for loaning me the money. :D I'm looking forward to all of the mechs and I can't wait to mess with the mech lab to get them tuned.

@tyr4nt: You are missing the fact that the locust is also 10 tons lighter. Your argument about making an assault mech with ballistics that can not hold a 20 also is invalid. The point of the different chassis is to be able to have DIVERSITY in the game. There is a reason that all mechs can not run 2 ac20s, and a reason that PPC/Gauss spam is considered a problem. I am looking forward to learning to run a new style of chassis perhaps one that is more set for scouting than light striking. Rather than propose solutions to a "problem" with a chassis that you have never ran in game... TRY RUNNING it before complaining! By your argument I would be correct in saying no one should run the dragon because the HEAVIER cataphract and Jagers can do everything it can do, except they can't.... learning the different play styles afforded by the different chassis is part of what makes this game fun... If you want to buy into Pheonix do so.... otherwise quit whining or go find a QQ thread.

So what if the locust is 10 tons lighter if there is no trade off for the decreased tonnage/armor/firepower? This is exactly why I say the tonnage savings should result in a tangible difference, higher speed or something else.

I'm going to stop you right there, you completely missed the point about the AC20 example. I wasn't saying ALL mechs should be able to outfit AC20's. I was stating that it's rididiculous that a 65 ton mech can outfit TWO while certain ASSAULT mechs that already have a ballistic hard point can't outfit ONE AC/20.I never said all mechs should be able to outfit them.

I wasn't complaining. I even said my problem with the 1V wasn't the mech itself. If I was complaining about anything it was how the speed cap was hurting the mech as well as wasted 1.5 tons because it has to take 4th heatsink because it's limited to an XL170 instead of being able to drop a single heatsink and upgrade from an engine that comes with 6 to an XL175 that comes with 7. That's not a complaint, it's an observation.

No, you wouldn't be correct in saying that because you completely misunderstood what I was saying. You're absolutely right in saying that the heavier mechs can't necessarily do everything the dragon does but a lot of that has to do with the Dragon being able to hit a higher top speed because it is lighter in weight which is the exact same point I was making about the Locust. The Locust could do something that the 5K can't if the speed cap were raised or if it could it could equip JJ's+ECM.

As far as your comment about whining, did you actually see the part where I said if there were some tangible trade offs like the speed cap raised, I would buy the Storm tier? I didn't once complain about Project Phoenix other than the fact that the mechs I do currently want are locked behind a mech that I'm currently not interested in because of the speed cap which is why I was asking if anyones heard anything about the speed cap being raised. If it is then I'd actually be interested in the 1V enough to take a chance on it and buy the Storm tier to get the Shadowhawks.

How about instead of making people explain things twice and having a knee-jerk reaction because you possess the reading comprehension of a small child, you keep condescending remarks to yourself? That was completely uncalled for when I was actually having a civil conversation with DirePhoenix. Pause and take a deep breath to collect yourself before hitting reply next time. Especially when the person you're failing to flame is actually trying to find something out that's pertinent to their purchasing decision.

I just love all the nerf this and that isn't fair coupled with the it's gonna suck tears we are getting here from people who haven't even played these mechs yet. What a bunch of crybabys. If you already bought into Phoenix, then you are stupid. If you haven't, then you are just ignorant. Either way, your whining is nothing but noise. Unless you have a constructive thought, do us all a favor and stay quiet.

Why can't I access the Phoenix paint schemes in my mech-lab yet? Do I need to unlock it in some way after purchasing the Project Phoenix pack?

My guess is the paints will be available when Project Phoenix is released, which is still a couple of months away.

I have seen a lot of cool vehicles in video games. But these top them all, looking forward to getting at least some of the mediums asap. This along with the virtual cockpit, don't know why anyone would be whining, ignoring the current state of 3pv.

And yes it has been a long wait for the closed beta folks, I was there to.

No. No. No. Just no. I bought a Legendary Founder's pack. I bought the Overlord pack. I've demonstrated my commitment to the success of this game. Until you do the same - and you know exactly what I mean here - don't even think about coming back for thirds or fourths with shameless {Scrap} like this Saber rubbish.
