Thunderbolt looks to heavy to its tonnage.
It will be taken down for assault class and, therefore, will be a priority target in each battle as Quickdraw now.
Mark my words!
It's not worth my money.

Because from a lore standpoint it was originally designed as an assault class mech before the 80-100 tonnage brackets really existed.

I hope the Locust is similar in size to the Jenner and not the Cicada.

It should be smaller. Similar in size to the Flea, maybe a bit larger.

Yeah, Locust is 15 tons lighter than the Jenner - it should definitely be smaller.

I've never been a big fan of the TB, but it looks like Alex made this one 'Purty'.

Hopefully it'll be just as fun to drive come October.

For the most part nothing in this game exceeds the 40$ price point. The only exception are these packages which are bundles deals. Its like buying the Battlemaster, the Thunderbolt, and the Locust, then getting the Shadow Hawk for free.

I also think you are off the mark on how many people are playing the game. Not to mention the fact that the unseen will bring back some of the dormant players.

The most they've ever described is ~90-100k after a major patch during an advertised contest weekend, and before some of the more major issues with the games meta started to really bleach the games content out. I'd wager their recurring weekly logins at around 50-70k, which isn't all that healthy of a number (downright unhealthy for a game that's trying to capture AAA production values). The 50-70k that they do have are likely very valuable compared to most f2p audiences though, it's a very distilled population.

It should be almost half the volume of the jenner, which means it will be about 80% the visible profile. It'll probably be very short, but long and boxy.

RE: the cockpit and missile placement on the Thunderbolt

Going by the stats that LRM 15 system is supposed to be in the RT, not wanting to have the launcher of that size poking out of the cockpit, and still wanting the offset cockpit, I put the cockpit over to the left side.

Also i am aware other variants have LT mounted launchers. These are generally smaller systems though and as such the shoulder tube for these variants can be made more compact, use volley fire for launchers too big to visibly fit, and can use the space between head and left shoulder, alternatively or additionally, some launchers can simply get placed in the lower part of the left torso.

Oh my Blake, TDR design is awesome! I'm totally overwhelmed, for me it's definitely in top-3 of the best mech MWO mech designs. Can't wait till October.

But yes, wrong sides of the cockpit and missile rack is very strange. Why?
It reminds me how the Summoner got screwed up since MW3, where he got his hands on wrong sides. But MW4 finished him making both arms the same. So maybe we are lucky to still have TDR asymmetrical...

Love the TDR design. It looks like a halfway point between the old Dougram design we all know and love and the new Reseen design we don't know and love quite as well. It retained the barrel shaped missile drum of the old bolt as well as the squat and bulky profile while updating it to look more modern and fit with the other MWO mechs. Homerun by Alex again.

In short, I GET TO PLAY MY BEAUTIFUL THUNDERBOLT! ;)

And as for getting the cockpit and missile launcher on the wrong side, they didn't. That is correct according to the TR stats which state the LRM is on the RT shoulder, not the LT like the original image. Basically the guy who wrote up the stats in the original 3025 TR wasn't completely faithful to the original art, an issue not uncommon with the early designs and the art used for them.

Be careful when thinking about weight as it pertains to height and width, volume is important as well. If you increased 100% in height, but stayed the same proportionally you're actually increasing 600% in weight because you're expanding along x, y, and Z. A quickdraw actually isn't very far off from being realistically proportioned, nor is the trebuchet. The problem mechs are the lights which tend to be unrealistically small (you can fit like 7 commandos inside of one atlas) and the assaults which are unrealistically large (you can fit like 7 commandos inside of one atlas).

The thunderbolt design is one of my favorites so far. Were you going with a more "advanced" or less utilitarian design with the project pheonix mechs? They have a very different feel from your previous designs.

Thanks for the response, FD. Good to see how well thought out you make the concepts yet again.

Awesome work, Alex. In my opinion the 'bolt is your best one yet! Then again, I'm biased since the Thunderbolt is my all-time favourite mech. ;)

Why is there no ignore function on this board?

@Thunder Bolt
Man that thing looks great.

I think there is an ignore. you have to go into the persons profile and I think click, do not receive messeges or some such from them.

Depending on the battlemaster I may pull the trigger on this...Chris Roberts I am sorry!!!

Truly conflicted...normally I would have bought this package as soon as I saw it, but I also had committed to spending no more $$ until I saw the results of the 3PV fiasco. I may have to flip a coin to decide whether to chance it.

What are the chances that the concept art for these mechs can be added to the concept art section of the site? I think everyone would love to be able to see them in larger detail.
