This. If I feel the urge to play MechWarrior, I find myself preferring MechWarrior IV (despite its many flaws) over this game. While this game should be superior in every way, I grow tired of all the min-max'ers who are always trying to win. I mean, I get that, but there is no way to play against anything balanced (eg. a campaign, where the situations vary.) You can, in MechWarrior IV, decide "Hey, I think I'll build myself a cool 'mech, then go around and fight some other cool 'mechs." Here, it goes more like this "Huh, I guess if I'm going to do well, I should probably get a jumping 'mech, even though I hate them, fill it up with PPC's and Gauss Rifles, then go poptarting. Or I could try an actually balanced 'mech and get torn to pieces."
Well, I can't agree. Though offline mode and story campaign are really great things that MWO is missing as of now (who knows what the future brings, devs can swap the pillars of the game easily), what you say about the balance is not true. Where do you see poptarts now? Even when they were on a spin, they were not that awful, I've never suffered from them in my meds. And as of now it is totally untrue that a PPC-Gauss poptart rules the field, and you don't have to do it to win. Yes, these two are mighty weapons to be reconed with, but they have their drawbacks and they do not guarantee you anything. I don't use them and I have my kills more often then deaths.
MW4 is a game where you win because the AI sucks and you can win it any build you like just rushing into the thick of the enemy. Is that what you like it for? I wouldn't want that for MWO. In MWO you have to make a really balanced build with the thought-out DPS cycle, but you are free to use any weapons, all of them are viable. Sometimes not, but it gets tweaked regulerly and is not a bad thing because it makes you experiment more and not get stuck in one build. Try various weapons and tactics, analyse it.
If you can not see it, you either admit you have something yet to learn in MWO as we all have, or MW4 is still out there, waiting for you with it's terrible graphics, exploding mechs and tons of unusable and useless weapons.
