I agree completely, scale should be based on what is balanced, not based on what is volumatrically appropriate. But it's important to understand the difference between "bad scale" and scale that causes balance issues. PGIs scale isn't eally bad, there are a few strangely large or small mechs (catapult/commando), but largely the problem is that realistic proportions create an unbalanced game.

People should ask for unrealistic but balanced scale.

Don't let morals get in the way of doing what is right.

Edit * by which I mean I agree, balance first, realism second.

Yeah giving us a mech that relies on speed then giving it HUMONGOUS legs was well beyond fubar. (Im looking at you QuickJabba.)

Thunderbolt looks good, will be a nice addition to any Lyran's stable.

Thunderbolt shoulder launcher may be a huge mistake in terms of balance. Unless something unique is done, that mech can never sport an XL engine. With it's side torso sticking so far up and making an obvious target of itself, that mech will be dead quicker than a half hidden Cataphract ear if it runs XL.

It's like the hunch on a Hunchback. Too easy and tempting.

On the plus side whatever they end up doing with that shoulder rack will probably tell us what they'll do with the Madcat's missile racks too. So +1 for information glean.

That's more a problem with the nonsense implementation of XLs more than it's a problem with the design of this mech...

Thunderbolts should not have XLs. That's downright blasphemous, that is. They were always heavily armored bruiser mechs, able to take a kicking and kick back. Giving it an XL and making it fragile is just wrong and evil and wrong. Did I mention wrong? And evil?

Yes, I am completely unreasonable when it comes to my favourite mech of all time, why do you ask? :(

the problem is not design of the mech but rather whole mechlab concept. Missile rack should be standalone structure with own armoring - not part of side torso. But something tells me that current mechanics cant support anything that have something beside 2 legs 2 arms 1 head and torso. So as it is, Thunderbolt will be a walking coffin *and so will be Timberwolf and all others*

Because from a lore standpoint it was originally designed as an assault class mech before the 80-100 tonnage brackets really existed.
Thanks for the explanation. But still, I'm not going to buy it. I'll wait for Orion. :-)

Their interface can't support it right now, but the mad cat hitboxes that pop up every now and then during interface bugs show that they have some preparatory work for them. Either way, the side torso XL destruction mechanic causes a lot of problems, with the mechs making good use of XLs almost universally being the one with tiny side torsos or suicide tactics.

But it's things like this, which grants the different chassis strengths and weaknesses, that make them feel different and unique...and that's a good thing. We already have pretty wide open customization. If they made sure that the hit boxes/torso sizes etc were all the same or more "balanced" then why have different chassis at all, just have generic mech (20 tons), generic mech (25 tons) and so on.

You have to pilot a Stalker or a Dragon in a way that minimizes your chance of getting flanked and exposing your side torso to easy fire. You have to pilot a Centurion in a way that lets you use your "shield arm". Just like Hunchie pilots have to mindful of their hump, so will Bolt pilots (God I just love saying "Bolt pilot". I can't wait of this mech).

It add variety and rewards skill and knowledge.

Trust me, the side torso is the last of your worries when pilotting a Dragon.

Yeah, I forgot that whole thing counts as CT. So ignore the side torso section of my post and stop at "getting flanked". Principles the same, just wrong hitbox location. I've never been any good in Dragons, I just stopped trying with them.

Something tells me shoulder pods are coming...

...we can only hope that can on it's shoulder has its own hitbox, but even if not all the new mechs use dynamic modeling at least if not it's possible that not all weapons will be so juicy looking of targets.

Are these actual mech bays or do these mechs not require bays? If we sell any of the mechs, do we keep the bays?
