This is what we know about the Locust-1V:
http://mwomercs.com/phoenix (scroll down for the Locust Profile).

So the question is: How do we make it competitive as good as we can with 1 Energy slot, 4 Ballistic Slots and only 20 tons to play with (minus engine and internals)? Single PPC/LL/LPLs + 4 MGs?

Discuss.

Tonnage restrictions.

The mech itself is said to have 170 max, so the speed cap isn't going to be raised (otherwise, it would be de-facto the fastest mech in the game... whoch would count).

i think by the time it comes out the speed cap will be lifted. we do have Flea and MASC coming before locust

How to make it work?

Make PGI revamp MG's. Simple.

If you put the equivalent of MW3 MG's in this game and you suddenly have a Locust stock that can be viable, and a Locust with 4 MG's competitive.

I thought that too, but then I noticed it has listed Max engine, so yeah...

MW 1 all over again? I don't remember ever feeling sillier in a MW game before or after I singlehandily destroyed tons upon tons of good mechs with 2 Locust's MGs.

The energy weapon is located on the center torso. So that will restrict it to any energy based weapon that take up 1 or 2 slots. So PPC will not fit on the locust.

I think 4 MG and a MPL might work.

It is supposed to be able to turn on a dime, so that at least will be a benefit. Medium pulse and 4 MGs might be the best way to go, act as a scout first and then shoot up stripped Mechs in 12 v 12.

A Large Laser, or Large Pulse Laser.

Granted, a LPLS is litterally going to be 1/3 or the mech's weight, but what can you do with just 20 tons?

Either way, this is definitely going to need an XL engine, Endosteel and Ferro Fiberous to get enough spare weight to do anything.

I just used an online mech builder software (Remlab) and if you put Endo, XL engine 160, full Ferro Fiberous armor on a 20 ton mech, then you have 7 tons left for weapons, and only 5 critical slots open.

The key to remember about mechs is that the lighter the machine, the more efficient they are for speed. So, lights need to move fast or they're vulnerable. Don't skimp on the engine.

At best, a medium laser and a UAC5, possibly a AC5 at best.

Unless they double machinegun damage from where it is at now the Locust will be hardpressed as the standard variant. The variant with the missiles will be decent.

I have 4 MGs and an ERLL on my SDR-5K. Could work on the Locust too

Its a spotter. mount a tag with MG's. once spots open up on the big mechs. the locust can sweep in and rip apart the openings with mg fire.... i did this in my 4x mg spider and i got a stalker to turn and run.... serous amount of fun.

4 external DHS (max engine size of 170 has 6 internal) means you can't use FF and Endo at the same time due to crit slot limitations.

My friend was circled by 3 4MG Spider's. He laughed and got 3 kills.

Well, you can't put 2 AC2s on it. Otherwise I would have a suggestion there... 1 might work for continuous harassment at long range with a Medium Pulse for backup. The ability to move quickly and if it has a small profile could help you annoy larger mechs.

I hope so, I would love to build a LCT-6M (304 kph top speed, wheeeee!)

I'm hoping that they'll add lighter ballistics eventually, like heavy machine guns or AP gauss rifles, light enough for a light mech, and capable of doing enough damage to be worth using against armor.

It seems like a better idea to focus on LL/LPLs + MGs instead. AC 2s are bad and a single one for your whole loadout and damage (6 tons + ammo!) is just not worth using.
