I saw this in one of the previously active posts that got swept aside by Project Phoenix talk. I can't stress how concerned I am that if things continue along their present course, we'll have nothing but PPC + Gauss Shadowhawks to show for the whole thing - eventually leading to PPC + Gauss Battlemasters.

So who is right here? Does slash have legitimate reason to say that the game has serious issues right now from the "mainland" or is he all alone in his opinion on an "island" that Russ suggests he is? i.e. does MWO have serious, serious balance problems (As talked about at great length in my other thread here), or is this really the best the game has ever been?

I'll tell you right now, I find the response given to him to be both entirely out of touch and also a little condescending, in particular if you look at the general polls & feedback. PGI->Community relations are currently holding within a percent of 72% negative in my last thread and many people are extremely concerned about the way we're going in lots of ways.

Sorry to call out a specific tweet, but this actually made me a little upset that someone who's got legitimate concerns would be blown off like this and that a dev doesn't see the serious problems we have right now.

This talk shouldn't get lost in all the temporary Project Phoenix commentary, again, because otherwise all the new 'mechs will be are more snipers for the sniper grinder.

EDIT: Also I am not endorsing rage quitting the game, but I find this response to serious concerns disappointing to say the least. Also I in no way believe the game is in the best shape ever, because it was honestly more fun to play several months ago, before many guns were "fixed" because at least you had viable roles beyond snipers.

Russ's response sounds oddly similar to "let them eat cake."

Inb4 "the cake is a lie."

I could not give a **** that he told some moron off.

I do give a **** that they communicate on Twitter instead of their own website.

At least post more fluffy **** like ISN Newsflashes, sheesh.

The guy wasn't raging and sounded polite. Perhaps I've misread the situation but he in no way came off as a belligerent "THIS GAME SUCKS" kind of quitter. A ton of people who love MechWarrior have stopped playing for now but are really, really wanting a reason to come back.

From everything visible there, I see no reason to believe this guy doesn't fall into that category. He certainly didn't say anything that I've seen warranting a "telling off."

Well, then, if they are really, really wanting a reason to come back - he just said that the game is in its best state ever, so... I mean...

I don't get it, this type of banal stuff is best left for 24/7 news channels analytical pundits and ESPN talking heads, not MWO I think, but w/e

If he considers this the "best" state ever, I would seriously hate to see the worst...

But that's the problem: I really don't think it is. We've been doing this odd "Two steps forwards, three steps back" dance ever since closed beta. I'd argue game balance and the way matches play out are actually less interesting than they were last year right now.

You had viable different roles for a long time. Now there is only sniping.

The game can be in the best state to date and not be finished or feature complete. It doesn't have to be one way or the other.

Its only PPC + Gauss.

The only true viable weapons in game.

One look at this poll, or this one indicates slashbrb is on a very big island.

EDIT: Again, PGI, I'm not trying to attack you guys. You need to wake up and start getting way, way more community input. This is a fixable situation but right now, it is a train wreck and you need to stop believing it isn't.

The thing that frustrates me most is that I think all it would take is a few upper-crust players getting in a room alone with the weapon value file for a couple hours. It might need tuning after that, but I honestly believe you'd see a 500% improvement to MW:O overnight.

I favor a middle ground on this one. The game does have balance issues, but it is much better than it was months ago. My biggest problem with the game right now is that my performance took a big hit (I dropped from an average of 40 FPS to 7) so it's extremely difficult to play (it also overheats my CPU now so I can only play a game or two before I need to close the client to avoid melting my computer).

However! I strongly disagree with how Russ responded. It is not professionally worded and sounds like a dismissal of a customers concerns rather than a genuine response to them.

A better response would have been "Thank you for your input, could you please specify which issues have effected your experience the most negatively?". (Given a longer character limit I would also include a "I'm sorry you feel this way").

(If you guys need a PR guy I'm available. Just saying).
