The guy wasn't raging and sounded polite. Perhaps I've misread the situation but he in no way came off as a belligerent "THIS GAME SUCKS" kind of quitter. A ton of people who love MechWarrior have stopped playing for now but are really, really wanting a reason to come back.

From everything visible there, I see no reason to believe this guy doesn't fall into that category. He certainly didn't say anything that I've seen warranting a "telling off."

That doesnt change he couldnt be a moron

There's a difference between not having a huge community and having no one play it. I guess you play a lot of poorly made released games. I never claimed MWO has better anything, well other than obviously population. What I said and you've agreed, is that no one played it. Spin it how you want, blame other people, make all the excuses you want. NO ONE PLAYED IT.

poorly made released games ... because MWO is still "beta"

I don't even know what this is trying to say, but it doesn't change the fact that NO ONE PLAYED MWLL.

I still picture RG Notch as running a movie studio, totally discounting any and all projects that "nobody saw" as having merit, because damn it, your dumb-as-nails summer movie made more money.

Seriously, if only 1 person ever played LL, it doesn't mean it had good ideas. Some of which already got used in MW:O. I don't know why you care that it had a small audience and why you think that's a reason to discount it. The reason MWLL didn't catch on has nothing to do with how it was balanced or how it handled gameplay mechanics and everything to do with being built on Crysis, a game not every MW fan owns, with no budget to market it. (Also, the lack of mechlab - everyone who enjoys stock I'm sorry, but that gets old quick.)

You continue to ignore that there's a difference in not being number 1 and having no one play. You can make all the excuses for no one playing that you like but how can you discount the possibility that no one played because it wasn't any good. I don't get why you continue to push for the game to follow a model that no one played. How was balance tested without a mech lab or players to actual test it. Maybe all the people who played weren't top flight and they simply didn't see the problems or they weren't enough min maxers or any type of player to really test it.
No one playing means more than popularity. It means it simply didn't have enough players to provide any useful feedback. Or that tiny community was skewed in one direction or another.
So continue to push this unpopular mod that couldn't provide enough players or types of players to make a call one way or the other on balance.

I think both of them are on a very big peninsula. Sure game balance needs a lot of polishing, but MWO is currently in a rather good shape right now (IMHO).

But seriously, the wording rather worries me. I was about to buy the Phoenix Overlord pack, but maybe I'll wait for another week or so to see what the devs are up to.

Is it just me or did the game balance become horribly twisted to compensate for the terribad netcode at the start of the open beta, and then once the devs unfcked the netcode, the balance went to sht because suddenly people could hit things?

I mean, this really doesn't seem to be much more complicated than that. It's just that instead of noticing how players' ability to hit each other suddenly invalidates the damage values PGI have worked up over past year, they continue their slow ass grind toward tweaking weapon stats to perfection.

The reason for that I believe is fear that sudden changes would make most min-max boaters (say 20% of players) ragequit and demand refunds, so instead of unfcking the values wholsale and then resuming the slow ass tweaking process, PGI decided to ignore the ones unhappy about the situation (80% who want to try different loadouts) and just ride it out, deny that anything is wrong.

Good thread, keep it up...

...and watch K-town go the way of General Discussion, and for precisely the same reason. (Actual reason, not the PR excuse handed out to the masses.)
