[Aeropunk]

As I'm looking around the forums more I'm picking up that some people play using an avatar or character with a backstory and a history that they've followed throughout their table-top or MechWarrior gaming. Others though, like myself, don't role play like this at all, I simply see my online name as a nickname for myself. I thought I would put together this poll so hopefully we can get an idea of how people are going to be playing MWO. Feel free to discuss your choice too!

EDIT: By roleplaying I mean that you will talk and interact with other people as if you were a fictional person from the future

Not sure which option I should select.

I will be playing under my game name, Aegis Kleais, but I won't be acting a certain way based on the fact I'm leading the Dub M.C. or when I get clan tech down the line, I'm not going to act a certain way that falls in line with the game's lore.

I'm simply going to play the game the way I want. Tactics and Strategy are my RP.

Yea, so pretty much the same as the way I'm going to be playing. I just use Aeropunk as my nickname online, so you'd choose Not RP, but using an online-name

Im thinking a bit of rp because BattleTech is such a rich enviornment cant help but emerse yourself wiithin it sometimes.

I chose the moniker "Murphy7" because:

(1) It's my real name + a 7 because the name Murphy is as common as it comes.

(2) I've used it a long time across online games such as a variety of FPS, Starfleet Battles, Heavy Gear, and other games that are not predominantly RP.

(3) I am actively trying to get my friends to be early adopters of MW:O, and would like them to be able to find me easily, or recognize me on the field of battle.


I am in no way opposed to RP and would be all for it with groups of people who enjoy the play, but I do wonder what the opportunities will be for it in game versus on the forums or as a frame up for setting up some matches.

BTW, I don't take "Military Voice Procedure" as "RP".

If I say "Hotel Sierra, this is Alpha Kilo, you've got 2 heavy tangos located at grid sector alpha three heading zero niner zero. Moving to engage, ETA 2 minutes, over." then that's just part of efficient comms and not roleplaying.

I was going to say something like this...all I will add is that I RPed as a clanner years ago and it was a significant amount of work that required a lot of time not actually in the game. I will not be RPing in MWO.

Yea, that's simply like in Battlefield 3 calling out that there's a couple tanks at objective B so the jets can take them out.

Hmm. I might update the poll in the morning to something like "what level of role playing do you do in MW games?"

0Kinda like to see RP encouraged in this game, unlike it is and people that do it made fun of as castouts in most other MMOs

There is some of that... If its done like WoT, its kinda hard to hold together RP with randomly grouped matches

If I knew significantly more about the BattleTech universe, I'd be willing to play a bit more into an IC role. However, I can't really see myself doing that as I'm significantly lacking in knowledge. For now I'll stay as just a player with a handle, maybe that will be converted later on.

I'll probably do a little light role play. There really is so much lore for the BT universe that it would a shame not to use it to get into the game a little more deeply.

I honestly do not know. I don't think I will be RPing a BattleTech character, but I do have a character for another game that is set in modern day so if some of my other RP friends from that game want to play some MWO we might end up having those characters play MWO ICly there which can kinda get confusing in the "I'm the dude, that's playing another dude, that's playing a video game." sorta way.

It depends, really. I'll most likely RP if the group at large doesn't mind, or RPs themselves, because it can be quite entertaining. I also have no problem with simply jumping in my 'Mech and stomping all over people.
