you do know 1 MG has about the same DPS as 1 ML right? if they bumped the MG to 2 dps it sould SHRED thru just about anything. faster mechs might be okay but the slower ones would be torn apart in seconds. it would be more damaging then a 6 AC/2 jager but without the heat penalty. Yes its range would blow but any skilled pilot could close the gap easily enough.

1. No it doesn't. The MG deal 1 DPS and the Medium laser deal 1.25 dps. - In actual terms it deals 5 dps over 1 sec and then a 3 second cool down. The MG still deal 1 dps but requires 100% up time.

To deal 5 damage with the medium laser you only have to stay on target for 1 second.

To deal 5 damage with the Mgun you have to stay on target for 5 seconds.

Not to mention the range, the 1 ton versus 1.5 tons and the 1 critical slot versus the 2 critical slots, the unlimited ammo versus the chance for explosion.

Quite frankly there is a mountain of difference.

2. Yes it should deal 2 DPS.

Damage: 0.2 dmg a round at 0m-90m (2 DPS) and 0.1 damage a round at 90m-200m (1 DPS)
ROF: 10 rounds a sec
AMMO: 400 rounds of ammo per full ton and 200 rounds of ammo per half ton.

Go here http://mwomercs.com/...rior-balancing/
- Video 2 - if you want particulars and even better reason for why it should be buffed and why it needs to be buffed.

3. Go watch the video, it explains everything without me having to bury the thread in a mountain of text on why the MGun is a poor weapon and bringing it up to 2 dps would just barely bring it up to a decent weapon.

Yup - it would be great if machine guns had a burst firing variant (burst followed by cool-down). It'd make them more viable.

As for the Locust - 2xLRM5 will be my loadout
Which will get kill assists at least...

In a game where you can have at most 12 mechs on your team, how would a Locust be beneficial to a Com 2D or a JR7? How is this mech going to be anything other than a handicap to a team? It's major advantage in BT is the low BV/cheapness of the mech. In a game where neither of those are a factor, what is the point of having it?

Problem with that question is if you go down that road, you have to say the same with every other mech out there. Why the K2 when you can Jag, why the Awesome... ever. Why the Hunch P when the BJ will do the same faster? Why any assault when you can 4-6 PPC stalker (I guess 3 ppc + Gauss HGN can work there too)?

I like variety in the game, even if it is not optimal. Also, Commandos and Jenners look stupid. Locusts look cool (in concept).

Though, I agree BV or weight balancing needs to happen to help alleviate some of those issues.

The difference is that those other mechs (with the exception of the Awesome...poor guy is straight up obsolete when the Battlemaster hits) are still effective if piloted well. The Locust, no matter how well you pilot it, will be hard pressed to find any sort of usefulness aside from capping. Maybe if they raise the engine cap for it, then it will atleast have speed as an ally, but otherwise, it just wont stand up.

Edit

It is probably a bit late to mention, but I love the look of the little guy...I just don't see him having a place in any competitive or remotely serious game play. He will be my derp mech.

I think that the Locust is a 20 ton mech, to make it balanced, we just have to imagine it is smaller than a spider. Shooting a spider right now is a pain because of it's size, if this 20 ton mech is smaller then only a good sharp shooter will get it, by itself that's a pretty big selling point.

Spider has jumpjets, part of what makes it difficult to tag. The locust does not.

That's like, your opinion.. man.

And very fair.

I'm still going to find a way to make it work. It'll be my first (and probably only) light and I'll find a way to succeed with it. Will it be better than bringing a Jenner or Commando? We'll see. Can't say where the meta (or machine guns and flamers) will be in October right now. I CAN say that spiders with MGs and Flamers and really, really annoying when I'm against a good one. So maybe that is an option.

I'm a scrub, but ever notice in those videos, when people actually coordinate movement a little and focus fire, ANY mech is viable for a competent pilot.

Just what I'm perceiving.

the day I give a flip what the "Leets" consider "Optimal" for "Uber Serious HIGH ELO Competitive Play" is the day I unplug my computer and scrap the hard drive.

It's a game. They are meant to have fun. Beyond that, who gives a flip?

Just my 2 cts.

I have a theory. I theorize that eventually the actual weight of your mech will be a balancing factor in certain matches.

It's been mentioned on these forums before that one possibility of "dropship mode" would be that each player can bring a certain number of mechs to a match, up to a maximum total weight. (My preferred numbers would be four mechs, up to a total of 200 tons, but that's just me.)

If something along these lines was to be implemented, then suddenly these little 20 ton mechs have something to offer. You could initially lay waste in your atlas, then duel stragglers in your quickdraw, then hop in a locust to race around furiously machinegunning all the exposed components off of those walking wounded still staggering around, while still having one speedy little twit in reserve for a desperate last second basecapping Hail Mary.

Sure, you could use the heavier lights for those last two roles, but that would noticeably impact the weight of your bruisers.

Now, my theory is just theoretical, but it sounds like fun to me. <_<

The difference between the Locust and a Spider... the Spider has tonnage to do a few good things with like JJs and semi-zombie power (even put on a PPC). Can't say the same for the Locust.

Three reasons Why for a Locust.

1. Fast small ICONIC scout. People love Nostalgia.

2. Meat Shield, Throw yourself in front of your buddy, you take the hit, Your buddy kills the guy who wasted an alpha strike on you.

3. Strip all the weapons, Load it with 5Ts. of HE Explosives and go Banzai/Jihad on some 20 million C-bill assault. I'm looking at you, Mr. HexaStalker.

Lets keep that last idea secret for now :)
