I like the new soundeffects. Some weapons now do sound better, but some sound like if they were shot from a hollow tincan. It might be a matter of taste, but it isn't my taste for sure.
My real problem however, stems from the fact that it is now near impossible to locate the sounds accoustically. Before the patch it's been clear: A hit from the left, did sound like it came from that direction. Now the sound experience is rather foggy and it isn't clear anymore from where a hit came or where it was shot from.
To me, it sounds as if stereo widening is in use here. This does provide a bombastic sound, but at the cost of everything getting louder and a reduced spatial locating ability.
Because of that, I believe this should be reconsidered.
Regards,
Taron

LOL...I got a response and it was to run the file checked....like my system files just happened to be causing the new sounds to be too loud. really? on the day of the patch and you think it is a game file?

The previous sound (closer than a shootgun) was better
Totally agree, haven't heard any other AC so I'll have to install them I guess.
EDIT: well, with my headphone it's not that bad but it had more puch before, which I liked. AC/20 is ok, also like LB. I would not ming if all preivous do a comeback, except the ERPPC (and I guess PPC) which I now like better.

I formerly played with game sound up pretty high and the master computer volume at at least half way. I could hear the engine, my steps, sometimes other people's steps... all sorts of cool things. After the patch I got on, started the game and had to immediately mute the sound it was so painful. I "joke" that the new sounds make my ears bleed. Not literally, but they sure stinking hurt even at the lowest settings.
Now I have game sound on the lowest setting possible and the computer master volume on practically the lowest level, and it still hurts. And I cannot hear anything else. No engine, no steps, nothing. I cannot tell by sounds when I am getting shot now... Volume is clearly an issue with these new sounds.
STYLE:
The old sounds had variety and were really cool. There was nothing wrong withthem. I really do not know why they were changed. Some called them lackluster... but they were awesome before. The AC20 sounded deep and booming, for example. Now, everything sounds clangy, gongy, echoing, reverbing... nothing at all like guns, cannons, lasers ppcs... Just obnoxious TBH.
DIRECTION:
The new sounds are not directionally accurate. The old sounds you could tell where somethign was fired and where it hit. Now... there is no way to tell. Cearly this is a huge step down from the previous sounds.
IMMERSION:
The painful volume, the inaccurate direction and the clangy style all hinder immersion & enjoyment. Literally I even just mute the game sound while playing sometimes, when PPCs are firing near me or AC2s... or.... etc.
Please revert the sounds. There was no need to fix what was not broken. Or at least do what some suggested, make a check box that allows us the option of using the old sounds... that would be fantastic. I was so mad due to the sound change at first, now... I'm just hoping PGI will revert the sounds so I can hear the game again. If people want to blow their ears out and think its great they can just crank their sound. For the rest of us who still want to be able to hear the entire game as before without our ears bleeding... please revert the sounds.

Unless I missed a poll somewhere asking about a vote for a sound change.. but I doubt it.
