Fixed that for you.
Tourmaline isn't bad.
Yes Tourmaline is a great map. Its balanced between everything. Has lots of cover it's just great. Unlike Alpine. Bloody Alpine get better or be removed.

But here's the thing, now... with the terrain update, it's totally imbalanced. The team that spawns on the high ground has very few options of attack. And those are totally suceptible to snipers whilst giving little cover. It's all hard to manage cliffs to get stuck on the giant slopes if you go right and left is srs wilderness hike. While the low ground team has good cover and wide open avenues to travel right to the middle of the map.

And let's be honest, this poorly implemented grab deal at middle-aged gamers with large sums of income who grew up on the battle tech franchiseand little time is shameful at it's best. It's sad when a considerable percentage of your fanbase thinks the best hope is for PGI to fail and lose the franchise rights and for someone else to pick it up and develop a real game.
hill movement penalties make this game significantly worse, it was intentionally implemented for the primary purpose of selling more viktors for those who want meta-adherence and whoring, PGI is trying to monopolize on the game balance to push units even though they're too incompetent to figure out how to manipulate the meta like riot does with LoL to keep it changing and fresh. They're basically shamefully greedy and incompetent. Not much going for them, which I suppose is deserved, as people will remember what devs do and fail to do, and take too long to do.

ps the team that spawns closest to the tower will get there first and win unless you backcap given you can't even use the close ridges to counter-snipe
this
if alpine was as densely detailed as say, river city, its size wouldnt be an issue
but 2-4km lanes of open ground are too long in this game
the map is far too EMPTY

The other problem is every time I switch to my short range builds after not seeing Alpine once all night guess which map I end up on next? Every. Single. Time. This map is a prime example of why we need to be able to pick our mechs after we see what map we're heading to.
But should the map be removed? Nah, probably not. I think the current meta just brings out the worst in the map, is all.

Honestly though, I do like the IDEA of Alpine (big open arctic map) than I actually do Alpine. It reminds me of a classic MechWarrior map, but if I'm being entirely honest, it wouldn't rank well against MW4 classics like Equinox or Snowjob.
I have a feeling most people wanting it outright removed though are mostly just whiny because their brawler builds suck on it.

Odd.. so why do I have a higher win percentage when I spawn the lower spawn point?

so much goldvision, bro... they introduced hill climbing penalties on 7/2/2013, what reality do you pretend to live in? "wins on alpine matter no matter when they happened when considering the huge balance changes occuring with the implementation of hill-movement penalties"

I agree but the way its set up kinda isn't far for both teams since the Radar tower is a key point in controlling the main battle area between the bases with the new patch eliminating the slopes. So either a map redesign or just a new snow map would be in order. The scenery could use some trees which pretty much every other map has.

alpine is a sniper playground....once they address the sniper ppc/gauss meta i hope it will be better
