Each time I take a mech with AC20s or about 4 medLasers I get at leats 2 to 3 kills. (Unless I screw up and go head first).

So brawling is still possible and very viable.

Brawling is possible and viable.

Unfortunately sniping is nearly equally viable at close ranges right now and some adjustments are obviously needed, otherwise the dominant guns wouldnt still be gauss & erppc/ppc.

The fact that PPCs and Gauss have the same refire time as a Med Laser (1s burn, 3 sec recycle) makes them pretty optimal at any range. AC20s can out-do them in short range, and I've had success pugging with a Hunch 4G using an AC20. You just need to get in close.

Although, since the sniping weapons have the same characteristics as the brawling weapons, without the short optimal range...there isn't much competition. But, I prefer brawling, even if it isn't the best thing to do.

Hyperbole, tantrum mech deletion, and sky is falling predictions aside, most roles are viable and the PPC/guass is temporary as the balance is always changing.

Delete mechs out of spite if you wish but just because your mech doesn't work with your loadout for your style right this second, doesn't mean brawling (a general statement) is dead or that this game is unrecoverable. lol

Success at an undisclosed level of play does not a relevant balance statement make.
I can make a 1 small laser, 1 small pulse, 1 medium laser, 1 medium pulse, 1 LRM5 Jenner look like the best build in the world if I made a new account and kept it a new-player Elo.
I was thinking about making a smurf acct, but what should I name the account?

If you were alpha'ing more than six of your mediums in the 4P you were doomed to overheat and die anyway.

With 12 vs 12 out now, brawling has become more popular, especially on the smaller maps. You don't get great brawls all the time, but that's life.

Your so right OP brawling now is a joke ssrms are nerfed to heck ac20 lbx or ac10 is a joke im about ready to uninstall this game for good. I did reinstall Mechwarrior4 Mercenaries and went over to GameRanger http://www.gameranger.com/ to play and just had one fun time everything that is wrong with MWO was not even a issue as we played game after game of multiple maps and modes. I even saved me a few good configurations in the Mechlab. My poor old joystick even worked great I just cant believe a 10+ year old game was so fun and played so well. MWO just sucks compared to MW4Mercinaries for the life of me I cant believe PGI did not take that game and just update it for a new MWO. The players over there were good people and even helped me out. P.S I guess one of the things that really surprised me about playing MW4Mercinaries again was the mechs stayed alive so long? I was not just being blow away in 10-20 seconds all game. Come try MW4 again you will see what im talking about.

Three words... "Increase Cycle Time".

If PGI increased the cycle time for PPCs all the boogeymen would go away...

brawling has gone the way of the dinosaur, sadly, i can remember when every aspect was viable..when there was near perfect balance...save maybe machine guns and flamers.....there is literally no place for a brawler no more in MWO...which IMO is the most fun part of the game....whiners have killed this game...i would be shocked if it lasted another year....END OF RANT

Sounds like alot of QQ,

Hardly. In fact I am finding myself more and more rebuilding my mechs to brawl rather than stay at range. All you need to do is learn how to use cover and concealment and your brawling woes are over.

Oh....ok.....man that'll be a hard talk with my ddc....poor ****** doesn't know he's dead...oh dear.

btw. the only thing that kinda shafted my brawler-builds is the last patch...it turned my highlander's srms into giant mgs ...one missle at a time :P

I find brawling alive and well. I've been running a myro and a cat 3d with an ac20 and some mediums, great results. Been getting some better results, consistently than I have with highlanders. As long as you pick your battleground, brawling is alive and well.

I had for a few months an HGN 733C (ac 20, some srms 2 mlas) parked there, that was looking sadly at me. Later on I used to take it for a spin, min damage so far has been slightly less than 700 with at least 3 kills and 4-5 assists.. often I'm way over 800 dmg with it. Nothing in that thing has heat penalty.

It ain't easy brawling with so much tense fire (also LRMs are an issue) but it's still possible without too much hassle unless you time it bad.

What is missing now is brawling with medium mechs, too many assaults everywhere, a light can be easier surprisingly..

I blame matchmaker for these vastly differing perceptions of weapons balance, play styles, meta...and just about everything else.

Including the Holocaust.

whiners have killed this game...

If PGI listened to the whiners (selectively... some people whine about anything) then they would have balanced things like PPCs, they would not be working on 3rd person, etc.

One of the main problems is that they completely dismiss the feedback and assume that the "silent majority" agrees with them and supports whatever seemingly random change they feel like making.
