Man, that could be hilarious. Fighting Spiders would turn into a rehash of Aliens. "We got movement!"

Yeah.

"Where?"

"EVERYWHERE!"

"Ahhhhhhhh!"

LOL!

I could not agree more with redlances statement. Lately there seems to be an all-out assault on light pilots and their mechs. In addition to what redlance mentioned, throw in the landscape changes where we stop on a dime tripping over a pebble or our inability to climb up hills (which is always fun when you’re running for your life) Just about every advantage lights have has been slowly stripped away.

I am a hardcore light pilot. And I will try to adapt to yet another attempt to make the lights extinct. But it's getting difficult!

Please shelve the drama. There is no grand conspiracy against lights, especially with regard to the seismic sensor module. A light equipped with one has a lot of tactical options available. I run spiders myself and use the module to troll the enemy into splitting up.

Ummm Mystere is it? You need to read all my post before slapping me down like that. Makes you look a bit silly bud. Just saying.

Uhm, "Metallis," is it? You need to read all of your post before you slap Mystere down like that. He quoted your entire post, in which you said "there seems to be an all-out assault on light pilots and their mechs," as well as calling the module "yet another attempt to make the lights extinct. What more should he have read? Magical ghost writing? Psychic script?

Makes you look a bit silly, bud. Just saying.

the detection range is a good idea.

400m for assaults (so current range)
300m for heavys
200m for mediums
100m for lights is sufficient to still allow them to "skirt" the edges of a battlefield without getting picked up.

How could you troll the enemy into splitting up, do you have some special equipment that tells you what modules you have?

Oh wait, you know they have it, because, if this wasn't a F2P game and everyone could use it, everyone would.

Doesn't that seem poorly designed to you?

My post has less to do with the seismic sensor module and more with the drama (i.e. grand conspiracy against light pilots) being displayed by the person I was replying to.

PGI won't give you your C-Bills and XP back.

Best thing they'll come up with will be a Seismic-jammer module, for a low low price of 15 000 GXP and 6 million C-bills.

That is what ECM should be: Electronics Counter Measures. Modules should not be immune to that just because they are not part of the standard mech, they plug into the system and are vulnerable to any attack on it.

Aaaand they're fixing it! Glee! Now if they can just get the hit detection squared away so I can actually play my spider again without feeling dirty and unclean.

Exactly, I will not agree with any spider whining when it takes a full lance 2 minutes to finally start registering hits. It takes off, and becomes invincible.

Agreed - lighter 'mechs should have weaker seismic footprints. Maybe limit the detection range to (mass) meters? So a Spider would be detectable out to 30m, and an Atlas out to 100m?

I really like that approach. But your solution would be a little drastic.
Why not make it simply mathematical.
Max range at the moment is 400 m. So let's make an atlas being detectable at that range. That breaks the efficiency down to 4 m per ton. So a Spider would be detectable at a range of 80 m. That would be fair I guess.
Would also make it possible to guess what kind of mech is approaching depending on the distance you can detect it.
And the location of the mechs should be much more blurry and not as pinpoint as it is now.

I drive atlases and highlanders only and even I think that seismic is way overpowered. There are so few modules that it is really sad if one specific is not desireable but the only logical choise and therefore the one musthave of the game.

Trust me it's even harder to deal with if you pilot a light mech that actually takes damage regularly.

I have all but forsaken my Raven and Jenner simply because the Spider has what feels like 20 tons of armor and a force field.

Ravens do NOT take damage regularly. Yes, I know they cleaned up its hitboxes, but whether it'***** detection or whatever, I have simply pounded on Ravens what just won't die.. I've seen one of them stand up and slug it out with 'mechs half again their size and win without even losing their CT armor - and the Raven in question was BACKING UP and just kind of weaving side to side a bit. So yeah; I'll be really glad when hit detection for lights gets fixed - and it will.

While hyperbole is indeed an accepted literary device, there comes a point when what you say simply becomes ridiculous.

... Really? I can't use a contraction to say "it is hit detection?" This crap has got to end...

Take your straw man fallacy, do something extremely impolite with it, and then stop trolling my thread.

They're fixing the problem anyway, so /thread.

Chiming in with weight should effect detection range.
