The arbitrary choice of English means much of the world can't play - I say we boycott MWO and all games until a full Swahili/Urdu/Esperanto version is made available for the public.

Stop pandering to those privileged English speakers! Born with silver spoons in their mouths, never having to work a day in their lives!

Get real. The world is round. Timezones exist.

Since when was Australia one of those countries? B)

In this case i have to agree with those who call "whiners"

Chances are their test is scheduled with their actual work hours so that someones around when something goes horribly wrong.

Furthermore they a) dont need to try and squeeze all timezones of the world in and B) its a test server.. youre not entitled to use it even if you have spend cash on the game.

They dont have to make the test public in the first place you know... they could have kept it behind locked doors like they used to do. Give them atleast that little of credit.. god knows they need it.

I read all of this.
There are so many misguided players with in this community.
Is it even worth explaining the simple things to people who feel like anything PGI do is just pure fail.

not overly, but only having 1 side of an argument leads to only having one sided views to take away from them.

It's mostly just gameplay balance and some of MWO forums in general. Though it tends to be similar with official game forums for other games too.

Some of the regulars who bother to post here take the slow progress as a personal attack against themselves, among other things, and they react as such. Hence the personal attacks. Other MWO communities are more reasonable and level headed.

Eh, NO?

If I push a button that starts a timer that goes off at 19:00 CET, it goes off at 19:00 CET. Not 19:00 Your time AND 19:00 CET.

Being able to get registered would be nice. My browser has been unsuccessful linking to the sign up page. Do I have to wait for the Test server to be live to register?

It's nice that they're giving us this opportunity, even though it's kind of working for free... that is we're playtesters working for free, also this is beta, so we're being playtesters for a while.
However... it's a fun job, the thing is, 2 hours? Really?

When I did this thing for Blizzard back in Diablo 2, we had weeks of public test realm not hours, I think it would be much more significant(and practical for both of us), more free time. More time=more players, in the end, better feedback and accurate feedback.

You don't need to register, unless you haven't even registered for the regular game. I don't know what link you're following, but you just need to download the Test client and wait until the servers are up.

More generally, I definitely see a reason to do a short test rather than just leaving the test server up for weeks at a time (All the reasons already stated, plus the fact that they can't actually fix bugs while the server is online), but is it too much to ask for some leniency toward people who can't make those times? Say, each week has different times that it's up so that a larger number of different people can get on rather than the same people being on 3 weeks in a row? I mean, those times are just fine for me personally, and possibly more convenient for PGI or something, but I think it would be more appreciated to give everyone a shot.

you're just splitting hairs

No I'm speaking from experience, I've ran test builds on a system that was in Beta to make sure they would work before putting them into the live beta version.

All a beta is, is a version of a system or individual piece of software that doesn't have all the features enabled. So no, I'm not splitting hairs, I'm simply stating facts, its just that people would rather complain about nothing rather than accept those facts. Its 'fun' to stick it to the man and point fingers at big evil businesses. And my statements take the 'fun' out of those activiites so people get mad and upset.

You only get afraid of "losing players" in an Open Beta if it isn't being treated like an Open Beta. You don't use test servers in Beta because the Beta server IS the test server. Sorry, this just shows game is out of Beta and has been for a while.

If you really sit back and think about it. The if the test was done on the live servers, then PGI would have to take the servers down for maintenance before and then after the test was complete. On top of that, PGI was conducting the test twice during the same day. That is a lot of downtime for one day, and there would have been no shortage of complains about all that downtime.

As for why the tests only lasted for 2 hours each, that is to focus as many players into the test at once, thus getting better feedback and analytical data in a shorter amount of time. It also avoids the unnecessary splinting of the population between the 8v8 servers and 12v12 servers.
