Here is my take on it:

Pros:

1) Phoenix Sales gives PGI POTENTIALLY more money to hire staff, fix bugs and get the game right:

2) You get some nice mechs with some bonuses. Its good bargain depending on your entry into the game.

Cons:

1) Purchasing this Package may support the idea the the current game development is satisfactory.

2) Money generated, MAY NOT necessarily go towards the developement of MWO.

Lets get a clear picture of how the "vocal minority" feels.

the money will go pay the IGP bill, just like founders did. then be funneled off to other games. MWO will likely not see any real boost in development at this point.

I like the sale. I am okay with the rough state of the game because even though the balancing team seems a little short of foresight I believe they are going to eventually try and make it right.

I keep hearing about 3rd person coming to the game though and that dissapoints me immensely. I'm not sure whether or not I'll purchase.

Pretty sure they've already made $30,000 in the 90 minutes since they announced this.

The packages look pretty cool, but I'm unsure about the direction the game is going. They didn't announce an end date for the sale though, so there is still a chance for them to turn it around.

This sale would have made more sense after a lot of the issues have been sorted out. Most of the founders already are showing discontent with their purchases. Im holding out until community warfare is here. Im not sold on the game 100% yet.

Most issues have been sorted out, so far as bugs and crashes. Most.

Balance will always be a debate.

But the lack of CW, the lack of anything "interesting" so far as gameplay modes (what with us being told the entire Assault / Conquest setup was a "placeholder" for something better)... the constant delays and failed or abandoned promises and features...

Even us "White Knights" barely have the spirit left to defend against the bad press, or so it seems.

I voted for I like this sale, not mwo devolpment. As in I won't buy it even though it's a good value because the game isn't worth it.

If the game was better I'd be all over it.

I put my 80 bucks down without hesitation. One of my very first video games was Battletech: Crescent Hawks Inception on an old 286 with 16 color graphics (my first computer as a 10 year old). The first mech you get in that game is the Locust. The original mechwarrior also ran on that game. It's polygon AC cannons were amazing.

I want a 55 ton medium. I want a battlemaster. I want the nifty paint. I want the forum color. I want the symbol next to my name in game. I want the custom geometry for these mechs. I want all of it.

Beyond the emotional connection to my childhood, I missed the founders package and I do want this game to succeed.

Love the game despite its flaws. In comparison to the other currently available mech titles it reigns supreme.

Why is your 'For Reference' a link to a personal opinion piece that's way off the mark?

I have a background in Film and Television, so you know what? Let me tell you how the Video Game Industry works...

That's about as valid as that guys conjecture, because he has 'some' idea about how Intellectual Property & Copywrite works. I appreciate to some degree what he was trying to do, too bad it wasn't accurate.

I think, if they included even 1 ECM capable Phoenix version, they could make a good profit.

When i saw an early announcement, there were 3 "tba" entries on ecm capability and i thought to myself there will be at least 1 of them. I would have instantly bought the whole 80$ package.

But like this ? 4 crappy-ish mechs (loads of low-ton ballistic slots, no real benefits like ecm) with 10% loyality modifier.. i suppose when loyalty points are introduced, you will gain more of them by winning (in a decent mech) than in a 10% bonused robot somewhere between mediocre and trashcan,

I am not entirley sure on where i stand on the "Reseen" mech sale. Granted I would like to approve of the sale and say " well that is a cool idea, I am glad they were able to put in some of the mechs from old school." yet I am unable to say that as well yes, i gave pgi my 120$ for my founders program. they made alot of money from us founders, If i remember correctly they made somewhere in the 5 millon mark, just from that. now you aks us to pony up another 80$ for more mechs among other things. i mean lets be realstic is this a money grab, yes basicly it is, just like the founders progam was. will they make as much money from this as they did with the founders, no but it might be close.

I am going to comment on the fact that, after a year. this game is still in "Beta". I use the "Beta" term loosely. I feel that if this game were really still in "Beta" we would not have sales on items or Mc only mechs. while yes I understand that Pgi has to get money from some where. Take the game out of Beta and work on it. I don't think that i have ever played a game that has been in open beta for almost a year. be honest with your playerbase. we are here to support YOU.

Right now though you are slowly loseing your playerbase, I am sure that people could name off atleast half a dozen things that have caused them to stop playing. I really only have two. weapon loadout slots (basicly taking a MG and putting an AC/20 in it place) and PPC boating. I understand that alot of the TT rules can not be put into something like this game, i truly do and hold nothing agenst you.

I think that I will have to think on it more, but to be honest, I will more then likely get it...but i wish that Pgi would just come out and say "hey playerbase, we are running short on funds, here is some cool stuff that we are working on..want to buy it ?" instead of the whole cloak and dagger BS...

There is the possibility that this sale is meant to prove to IGP that the game is still profitable and worth developing further.

if you really think they still need this kind of money to keep them from going bankrupt and to keep on programming, think again!

compare it to a game as ambitious as Star Citizen which will be made for around 20m (12m from community until now). MWO doesn't even have a tiny fraction of that content.

PGI already made 5m+ from the first founders pack alone. now with hero mechs, premium time and skins and stuff they easily hit the 10m mark for sure. and what do they have to show? 18 mechs and 7 maps... woohooo...
they don't care about bugs or balance, just more and more money grabs.

really... they have the money! :D
phoenix is just to milk more money from the willing geeks who start to scream when they see unseen/reseen mechs.

I'm reserving my judgement. The package is pretty impressive in the volume of what you get for the money and the mechs look amazing, but the current state of the game has put my wallet on ice as far as MWO is concerned. I am awaiting the promised "big changes" in July before I decide if I want to spend any money at all, let alone $80, on this game or if I'll even continue to play it. With the current state of game play leaning so heavily on so few mechs and weapon systems I'm burned out. A greater variety of mechs and weapons need to be viable parts of the game so matches don't devolve into stale repetitions to the point where one or two chasiss running one or two weapon systems stacked up decide everything that happens in every match.

We'll see what July brings...

As of now, I have not purchased, but I am considering. We'll see what happens from now till July 25th. After that time, no, I won't purchase this package. I need more than new mechs and new maps to spend anymore money here.

The problem I'm having with this is I have no idea if the money is going to be used for MWO or siphoned off to fund some other IGP project. If PGI could clarify that most, if not all of the funds would be used for MWO it would go a long way to help me consider this purchase.
