On topic, GIVE ME THE KING CRAB!

Too bad they won't likely include the Highlander, since there is already a Hero version.
But yeah I can definitely see the King Crab being released in a package deal similar to the Project Phoenix idea.
I would light so much money on fire for this.
Seriously.

To each their own, but why would anyone want such terrible designs?

And an addendum about the King Crab, because that's what this thread's about: One may not be scary, but 2 AC/40 Jagers can thrash an Assault given 30 seconds. Do you really think 2 King Crabs won't be really difficult to deal with? Can't shoot the side torsos out of this bad boy and put it down. This monster will run a STD engine. OH, and they'll have sooo much more armor than a Jager. So good luck killing this bad boy when two flank your team, assuming they can move that fast. I'm just tossing the idea out there, but dual ac/20 converging on your mech mounted on an Assault chassis is scary. You thought 3 AC/40 Jagers running amok on your team was bad? Try 2 King Crabs going through the tunnel, murdering your LRM Stalker and taking down 4 Heavies before you have a chance to groan. And if you think people won't be bringing that many Assaults in a game let me remind you that that's the name of the game since Closed Beta. 4 Atlases is horrible to counter. SO MUCH ARMOR. Now imagine an Atlas that goes faster and mounts 2 AC/20s. I'm just saying. There needs to be some kind of solution to big guns everywhere. I liked the idea of horizontal arms only, and allowing vertical movement to be melded with the torso, it's an interesting idea, especially since it would make so much sense for the chassis.

Something tells me you have not seen the sketch done by Alex:
(with daka)
(ditto)
And the fan renditions:

Otherwise, the gigantor King Crab would be of limited usefulness, either unable to target vertically or unable to track a lighter, more mobile target. With full arm mobility and the AC40 combo, it would make the mech unique and the fearsome area-denial weapon it should be.
[edit so I wouldn't be padding posts]
Also, the King Crab would be a cool mech because the field is getting monotonous. There are...four? mechs that aren't humanoid in design (Jenner, Raven, Catapult, Stalker, and you could even toss the Cataphract in there), but the Commando, Victor, Centurion, Trebuchet, and Highlander are REAL similar.
Especially the Victor, Treb, and Highlander. On the battlefield, I sometimes have to squint REAL HARD to tell the difference. Having more weirdly-shaped mechs would just break up the monotony a little.

Also Bishop's work on this mech should be used as the base for the model.
It would be cool to see community art used in game. Plus his sketches are awesome for this mech.

why thank you! Though I would be delighted if someone with any CG art skill could take my line art and make it look cooler. I have not yet had the chance to learn that skill.

Yeah well ... nothing is perfect. But I have no worries for the look ... we have plenty of good stuff in this thread, we do not need the MWDA version after all. I am pleased though that the KGC epic story and versions continue even in today's BT.

Ooooh, I like this one better than the finished drawing, mainly because of the missile launcher. Now I want a king crab too!!! =D
Havent read all posts in the thread so maybe this has been mentioned, but your drawings made me think about letting the crabs being able to open and shut their "claws" just like some mechs have missile doors. Have them open to fire, and shut for more protection to the arms.
