The Hydra has an extra ton of armor, 21 double heatsinks, an XL400 engine for going fast, and a completely self-sustaining array of 5 medium lasers and a pair of ER Large Lasers for close and long range combat, while an AMS with two tons of ammo allows it to push and keep on pushing against tides of missiles. While it may run hot, the array of Medium Lasers runs at 71% efficiency, while the paired ER Large Lasers will run even cooler, at 77% efficiency on their own.

If you go through an entire ton of AMS ammo you're standing out in the open WAY too much for your own good.
Save tonnage by removing a ton of armor from your legs and get rid of ferro to free up slots. If you still can't fit another sink in this way then just stay with the 2 tons AMS ammo

1. Why are you using Ferro-Fibrous and not Endo-Steel?
2. Why two tons of AMS ammo? Did you have a ton and a slot left over?
3. Where's the dakka? I see plenty of pewpew, but no dakka.

Before I added Ferro and the extra ton of AMS ammo, there was 15 slots and no tons left over. Couldn't fit another sink in, so I just put ferro in and an extra ton of AMS ammo, and beefed up the armor a bit more with remaining tonnage.

A1: I like having as close to max tonnage as possible, and I'd have no slots and spare tons left over.
A2: Basically.
A3: It's meant to be a completely self-sustaining build. The two ER Large Lasers function like a Gauss Rifle +3 damage, and with fire discipline (AKA not firing both the ERs and Meds at once repeatedly), it actually runs quite cool. Theoretically, you could take off the AMS and fit in two MGs +1t of ammo, but I like having AMS more.

If you do use endo-steel, you can fit ER PPC in instead of ER Large Lasers. They are more effective for ranged combat.

According to taste one could fit machine guns instead of AMS in. Or even remove 1 heat sink and some armor and add machine guns to the build for some promised dakka dakka. It actually looks quite nice. I wonder how vulnerable those side torsos will be.

And it even has better sustained dps than your weird Ferro-beast.

Ahh, the Charger. A kind of funny mech, and I've always made the effort to keep one in my lance in TT just for the giggles.
Fun fact, though; The build is completely untouched by the new heat changes, and would actually run completely heat-neutral in TT. 15 heat from five MLas plus 24 heat is 39 heat, and even with running, you would still only run on 41 heat/turn, with 42 dissapation. For a quick heat test, minus one DHS; Take a HBK-4P, strip off all the armor, and fit in 2 ERLLas (one in each arm), 4 MedLas in the hunch and one in the head. Cram in DHS wherever you can, and fit 20 DHS with a STD 250 engine, and see how many salvos the mediums can fire before overheating, and then how many the ERLLas can fire without overheating. They should come out to about the same (only a 4 heat difference between ERLLas and MLas in their full salvos, and the MLas has a shorter recycle time.)
