We Need A Speed Bonus In Regards To Weight

For example my DC weighs only 95.5 tons. It has a 320 std engine. Top speed is 51.8 kph, Top speed is also 51.8 kph at 100 tons, 0.518 kph per ton. Since I'm carrying less weight, my top speed should be more than what a 100 ton mech can do. At 95.5 tons, my top speed should be at least 54.1 kph.

Basically, If you want more speed, you shoud be able to increase your max speed by carrying less weight.

i think it is an even trade.

we should probably have some sort of upper limit so we don't end up with light mechs going 200kph with a single laser though.

Or you could upgrade to a 340 engine with that extra tonnage and go at 55.1, with the added bonus of an extra 'free' heat sink slot.

I agree it would make sense. Inb4 someone comes in talking about actuators and gyros being tuned to engine size so there is a certain speed limit.

If we could do this, people would take 35-45 ton Atlai as giant light mechs. With maximum armor.

No. Just no. We dont need 50 ton atlases with max armor and 360 XL engines going 130 kph. Some mechs are just not meant to go fast. Period. That is the whole point of engine caps, you cant go faster than your engine cap allows. However there should be a way to spend extra tonnage that doesnt use crit slots. Something like Hardened armor for example.

Based on my current setup, a 340 engine will cost 2 mill plus and listed top speed is 53.4 kph at 99.5 tons. No need to spend the money when I can just drop the weight and pick up more speed.

I like the idea, within reasonable limits of course. A 120 kph Atlas with a single ML should not be possible :rolleyes:

Make it a small gain.. like let's say 1kph/free ton. Or maybe 1.5. That ight make my CN9-A drop the BAP I just slapped on since I got tonnage to spare ( actually still got half a ton leftover ;))

Explain in your 'real physics' how an atlas can even be in the first place, then use it to justify it going any faster then it does.

I agree, BT and real work physics don't always go along..but it would be nice to have something for that unused tonnage that sometimes pops up. With clan tech this might get even worse. Depending on your weapons you might run out of crit space long before you run out of tonnage.

The only way something like this would work is if each mech had an absolute maximum speed. So for example an Atlas might have an absolute maximum speed of 70kph. Additionally the benefit gained from not using tonnage would have to be less than the benefit gained from upgrading to a bigger engine. In other words, A 90 ton atlas with a 10 ton engine should not be faster than a 100 ton atlas with a 20 ton engine.

Yeah, I'd rather not see this.
For the low low price of heavier internals (which come with more internal hitpoints) you can get: bigger engine cap, more hardpoints.

No, it kinda screws over lights.

An Atlas with full armor, XL360 engine, no heatsinks and weapons comes in at 52.5 tons with a max speed of 57.5. Once you start with the loadout, final weight will be close to 100 tons easy.

Well, in my early days of MWO, I was messing around with the armor, taking off some here or there and I never put the armor back on where it could be needed. It turns out the extra, armor wasn't needed as much, for the moment. A new meta might start and I might have to change a thing or two down the line. We'll see.

If nothing else, you could mount a better engine.

I don't own larger engines. The max size I can get is a std 340 with my loadout and I will only pickup 1.6 kph above my current max speed.

So either do it, or swap out one weapon for something larger.
You're not going faster by being lower in tonnage.

I'm not swapping out firepower for a tiny boost in speed. I'm just saying that something like this should have been considered when putting in the new movement mechanic in place. Heck, at the least your speed should increase when going down hill.

Maybe a boost to Acceleration and Stopping Quicker if under weight.

Speed Tweak already gives too much of a boost, once unlocked anyway, no need to make Mechs faster without better drawbacks in place.
