further work on the model of Bishps KGC-000 design..comments, suggestions and critique welcome.

errm not sure how to share this properly, advice would be appreciated.

from Imageshack, IDK. I would say just right click on the element, hit copy image, then in an open post, hit paste. From Photobucket it has an IMG embed option.

Thanks Bishop, was probably using the wrong link from Imageshack, but used Photobucket and all's well.

No textures on this model obviously, just want to get the mesh right first.

Also it's not an exact copy of Bishops design, but I think it's not far off, it hasn't been done in isolation of the original art either, Bishop has been giving me feedback when he's able.

If I can get it to a point where he's happy with it, I may try another one of his concepts as well. I think his designs have a lot of presence and it's a pleasure to work on them.

Naw man, working with you has been GREAT.

I certainly wouldn't expect a 100% copy. Any artist needs room for interpretation, and especially when translating one medium to another. and especially going 2d concept to 3d. I think you have stayed amazingly faithful where you could, and the elements you have added work well for me. I just need to see some orthos and posed textured models to be sure, but am pretty sure you are there. Just need to obsessively compare stuff like the ingress hatch, etc.

But I would be delighted to work with you on any future projects. Your quality of detail has been top notch, as has been your willingness to accept input and critique. Too many people won't take ANY critique. Any particular design grabbing your fancy, or a design you would like me to work on?

seems much too bulgy for me, I'd prefer a longer front-back length instead of such a compressed glob.

If this mech was part of the Phoenix package or the Saber package, I might buy it despite every intention to not buy anything from PGI until I see some notable improvements. Basically, a King Crab constitutes a notable improvement automatically.

Yeah, TBH it's the bulky nature of Bishop's design that I liked :D Not that I'm anti some of the other KGC designs on here at all, I'm pretty pro any giant stompy mech of death..but I just liked this one better..strokes for folks I guess.

I've actually continually shortened the upper shell and hip area as I've worked on it (it was a little longer at the start), I cant speak for Bishop, but my feeling is he was aiming for a wider/squatter look (not sure if I've quite got that dialled yet), The longer shelled types always seem to suffer from having problems with their COB. Not that it matters, I'm not all that hung up on whether it would actually walk etc. to my mind Bishops designs impart a feeling of ..mean..about the machine..it looks like it wants to hurt you..this was probably more to the front of my mind whilst working on it. PGI's Atlas and Cataphract (more the Atlas) have that sort of feeling as well, to me at least, although I dont like a lot about how the Atlas moves sometimes, whilst the Stalker moves just about right I reckon. Anyway that type of thing is more important to me than other aspects of a mech.
Always good that people taking the time to look and comment on work, even if it's not your cup of tea, the effort is appreciated.

Bishop,

I'm happy to do any of the designs you have. If you've got one you'd really love to see let me know. If you want to open it up to a forum poll and let the numbers decide, I'm good with that too. If you want to do a whole book of them........

I'll send you some details of the hatch and so on soon, as well as a posed scene I'm working on.

He also has a kick as Urbanmech, IIRC.

Though I prefer the King Crab in general. :D

Has the Urban Mech almost 360 cockpit view?

technically, all mechs do, though it's condensed into about a 180 degree strip above the main monitors. On an Urbie, it actually has viewports giving it close to full view, too, though in my version the ingress hatch is in the rear of the head, so it has about a 300 degree FoV. Of course, since the command couch makes physically looking behind yourself impossible, I didn't feel it made a difference.
