Anyhow, felt like doodling, and a few asked for hte Crab, so I put one together.

Had a bit o a decision to make. I thought about flat and angled, like FD's take on it, but 1) I didn't want to rip Alex off, and 2) all the canon TRO art has a distinctly rounded carapace on the CRAB, so much so that I consider it a key element of the design.

Anyhow, I always thought that bad art aside, the original CRAB had something going for it, aesthetically, so I didn't try to re-invent the wheel, just polish it up and give it shocks and alloys, instead.

So here iit be, along with it's concept piece to show the torso and arms better.

thoughts?

Colored for better definition/contrast:

Design notes, while sticking mostly to the crab, I incorported design elements of the MadDog, Bushwhacker and Uziel into the mech, specifically the Should/Torso/Cockpit interfaces, and the upper arm actuator is directly from the Uziel/MadDog designs of MW4.

The Upper and Lower Arm Actuators are a compound ball-type joint on the inside surface of the gun pods. Compared to full "humanoid" arms, this limits the lateral movement slightly, but this is partially compensated for by the very dexterous nature of the torso rotation ring, also using a ball joint concept.

and the cockpit, hard to tell, is offset to the left of the torso. the radar dome is almost directly in the center (biased right approximately 30 CM)

FACE LAZOR!

Great art, but hard to see the detail in the main pic. SHADE IT!

Also, bay doors for lasers is inspired! Damage resistance!

It's a nice idea, but I've already tried to get it off with Jagermech (which, as the art suggests, has those lasers in side torsoes under such claps if you look closely), but never got a response and when they did come around to making Jager, well, you've probably noticed they aren't included.

I like it.... a bit. The super-extendo snout has never looked good to me. Hard to be a Crab without it, though.

Concept question: Are you dropping the lower arm actuators, or is that just an artifact of the sketch?

I like the offset cockpit idea. We need more of those!

Looks nice. My one concern, the claw shape will draw whatever is being crushed right into the laser lens and housing. You might want to recess that laser lens a bit.

Claws are for protecting the Weapons aperture, not for grabbing. That said, if you notice the "closed" version on the concept, the "pivot=pin" for the upper "claw has moved back on a recessed track, a necessity to actually open and close the cover. The Laser/PPC in the arm likewise move back with it, allowing more "crush space" and impact amsorbtion should one punch with the arm.

Probably cus of the funky legs, narrow chassis and the weapon pod above the cockpit. Since I used the Bushwhacker and the MW4 MadDog as inspiration, I would call that "Working as Intended"!

If they made the Crab actually open/close its claws to fire the mounted lasers that'd be really awesome! Ala Missile bay doors.

Very nice. I have always liked the Crab, and this is a nice redesign.
