JadeRaven and all:

Having dropped against JadeRaven and company in 8 mans several times, I can say from personal experience that he has a deep understanding of the overall game meta.

Haha, you really don't want to feed the all consuming fire that is my ego when it comes to internet robots. Thanks for the complement!

won't be able to be there since I'll be working, but I can't wait to read a summary of the evening (if someone will post one). It's a good idea and I hope we'll have something constructive out of it. Glad to see the community shaking things up, it felt a bit dead lately...

Also, the timing is excellent, considering Bryan will post his next director update on the 25th...

In all honesty, removing it was a small boon to snipers and LRM-heavy builds. Time was, you could run a dragon around, shoving over gausscats and other snipers and shoot their backs up when they finished standing, or knock LRM boats off cliffs/hilltops. I so greatly hope it will return.

Plus watching Jenners try to drop-kick anything and everything was pretty awesome. The game got less awesome when it was removed.

Somebody just put up a feed of old gameplay videos, back in the good old days, when many other fits were viable and gameplay hadn't degraded to "snipe or die." Nostalgia for a game that's a year old!

Being on the arse end of a goon robit stomp, violent combat robits is what you guys do well. Your enthusiasm for the game is evident, via the forums, podcast or twitter (goon humour always makes me smile) SQUAWK™ & I like this idea of a community meeting. I wish everyone involelved all the best & I hope it remains a civil affair, & may we ALL reach our goal of having a long lasting & fun MechWarrior game.
I my self am wondering why I'm grinding my robits, for what reason do I fight?

This sensation gets underlined by remarks of WoL guys to crtitical posts. In fact, Allen Wren is the first one on the last few pages to appreciate other approaches. I am pretty afraid of where this is going ...

I appreciate that someone actually read my post enough to actually see the words involved. However, let me do my best to provide you with the goon perspective here, and why my various teammates are reacting the way they are to some of the points being raised. From where we're sitting, we're dealing with not two, as it would seem, but three or even four main talking points:

A: The game needs to be fixed for reasons X, Y and Z, and hopefully the town hall, with full community involvement will spur on a new golden age of shooting robots. This is the perspective that led to the creation of this meeting.

B: Reasons X, Y, and Z are not applicable because of points 1, 2, and 3. This is a wholly acceptable viewpoint, one we welcome, and one we wish to hear raised at the meeting itself.

C: The game is fine and you're wrong and/or bad for having the meeting. This is a non-productive viewpoint, and is what is causing some of the goons in the thread to become agitated. If the game is fine, tell us exactly how it is fine. The meeting can only be enriched by varying viewpoints backed up with reasonable data. However, instead of providing these opposing viewpoints (as with those raising point B above), they are content to take a dump on what we're trying to do.

D: Goons are bad. This is the thing that we hear most often. We're fairly used to it, in fact. We've explained our position until we're blue in the face and still we hear the same old "what they did to EVE they'll do to us" panic attacks. The SomethingAwful forums community (goons) are thousands upon thousands of various flavors of internet nerd. Very little unites us beyond having paid ten dollars for the opportunity to chat on a forum where we know that if someone is being a [REDACTED], they'll get kicked out. That's it. Even within the Games forum, where our MWO thread resides, there are cultures and subcultures, and often a goon involved in one aspect or game will never see or hear of another. Goonswarm/goonfleet is not Starfleet Dental. Starfleet Dental is not Ye Olde Goon Squade. The Word of Lowtax is neither YOGS, GS nor SD. If you seek to paint us with the brush of other people whom we've never met, then that's your own business. Suffice to say, you're not helping by picking fights with us that way. If you've got a problem with the Word of Lowtax, tell us what it is, and we can deal with it with at least a modicum of professionalism. Elsewhere.

While points A and B are both equally useful in terms of advancing the dialogue about the state of Mechwarrior Online, points C and D are what the goons in this thread are becoming annoyed with and raising a bit of a fuss about. We are here, in this thread, and in the town hall meeting, to talk about the game. No more, no less. Picking fights about irrelevant topics does nothing but get us all riled.

I'm an Agitation Analyst. I understand these things.

Hope to see you all tomorrow.

The tone of these threads kills me.

The assumption that PGI is ignoring the community and the way anyone who disputes that "fact" gets shouted down by the mob kills me.

OP, you speak of welcoming any and all input. I put forth input and get shouted down by members of your own unit. The implication that I'm delusional and that the arguement that it is beta is invalid. They fixate on the literal translation of the words I write and ignore the spirit of the message as plain and clear as it can be.

The Game has issues which the developers whole heartedly acknowledge and have communicated clearly that they are investigating and reviewing and have plans to resolve.

But because PGI didn't step down off their ivory tower and deign to explicetly recognize that members of the community were able to identify those same issues and come up with ideas and suggestions that their armchair developer skills say will emphatically resolve PGI's blundering idiocy, you all grab the pitchforks and torches and are ready to set fire to the whole thing.

The problem with MWO, isn't MWO or PGI or IGP or anything else.

The problem with MWO is this poisonous cloud of haters and ragers.

You all think that you are the majority and you represent the community. What you fail to recognize is that for every one of you who claims to represent the community and insist that PGI is the worst thing to happen to Mechwarrior, there are dozens who have grown sick of the doomsaying and hatemongering and are taking breaks or walking away completely.

So, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but all these people you're saying need to just **** are the self-same crowd that PGI has to rely on to fund the game. I'm pretty sure I'm right there. As a business, you listen to the customers. If PGI tries to fund their own paychecks with their own paychecks, they're guaranteed to fail as epically as the heat introduction.

This is the MWO Forum
Once it was united under the Star League
But for the past 300 days it has been consumed by savage war.

Until a new enemy appeared,
Mysterious Invaders known as the Ekmans,
Powerful and ruthless, they struck like lightning,
Monetizing every game element at once,

But they made one big mistake,
THEY ATTACKED MY MERC CORP,

Now in the spirit of the Star League,
Ancient enemies have reunited,
And we're going to take back our game!

A lot of former in-game enemies on that list. I'm hoping we'll be able to pull a lot of retired MechWarriors out to come participate in the discussion, even if they won't start playing again until meaningful fixes are implemented.

ROFL. NO, we're still in-game enemies..Assuming that PGI gives me a dam good reason to come out of retirement. I did just buy a Sarah though... (though it's almost a ML boat)

I appreciate your post and the clear statement. From what I have read by now, I´d stick to you and Stalkerr ^^ Because on the other side, there are posts from your community that do not even have the slightest bit of reflection of the past development, especially the involvment of the community itself, that led to the crap we are in now.
I am not talking about the goon-bashing .. personal things should be kept personal, but the behaviour of some "apparently constructive" members leads even me (I don´t know a thing about your history) to certain scepticism of where this is going to lead. Simply because you are big enough to produce a statement and talke the presence of representatives of other corps as legitimacy to say "the community says so". (worst case)
I´m still looking forward to the meeting (even though I messed up timezones and are trying to get up at 3 in the morning ^^)

There's absolutely no intent to say "the community says so" - the only intent is to say "these groups think that these things are an issue and here are some ways we would like to see them solved". No one is going to try and claim that because there's a bunch of groups there that the town hall represents the ENTIRE community's views, and it'll be down to PGI to decide if the number of people represented and the coherency of the views produces something they feel the need to take action on or not.
