Hope it went well.

Sorry I won't be signing the petition as the points raised on it are not the problem.

I'll be specific.
Canon Tech
PGI are not using canon for key elements in MWO i.e. ECM and Beagle Active Prove. If they stuck to canon for key elements then we wouldn't have arguements over damage/heat/effects etc. Its this fact, and then PGI screwing things up as they implement them, thats the problem
ELO
Its the very FACT that they have an ELO system that is causing new players to leave the game as the new accounts have their ELO rating INFLATED and they get dropped against vets, get face stomped continually and quit the game. ELO needs to be set to zero for new accounts and have them matched against that, that way new players play against themselves and get time to learn and practice without incurring the wrath of veterans.

I disagree. As I and others have said in this thread, I believe the problem in that sense is that they are sticking TOO close to canon when they need to change things. The way BAP and ECM work in TT isn't really directly applicable. I'm not sure I'm really happy with how they're implemented either, but I don't think it's cause they not not using canon mechanics

I do however agree that the ELO system is dumb.

This was a huge thing and a very positive move, was a bit skeptical at first but it was great - and very funny at times.

Thanks to everyone and hope we do it again sometime - it put some unity into community for sure.

I don't think that they are sticking remotely close to canon at all. The only thing they have going for them are the names, weapon sizes, weights and eye candy.

The BAP isn't obviously going to work like in the TT due to the hidden units rule not really being implementable.

Another thing I forgot to mention is auto-convergence. No mention has been made of this.

The fact that I can walk up into a 'Mechs face and deliver a gauss and 2 ERPPC to a single spot on a 'Mech and also do the same thing at 800+ meters is ridiculous.

I'll use an example of a dual AC20 jager.

I can deliver 40 points of burst damage to the CT out to 800 meters. Now If I was right in your face, mechanically, my arms can't converge on the same spot on the CT because it would, in actual fact, snap my arms off at the shoulders. In the latter scenario where the range is less than a meter I should deliver the shots to the 'Mechs side torso's and shoulders.

So, what should happen is I have a good chance of striking one spot at range then a progressively less a chance the closer I get to my target, also taking into account my speed/direction and the target speed and direction. Intuitively, I should have a cone of fire that progressively gets less accurate.

What I think is happening here is lazy programming from PGI.

Well done to the organisers and a round of applause for all the speakers last night. I think the conversation was generally positive, productive, and progressive. Big picture guys, let's keep it framed so that we can get a clear grasp on our needs and desires, and hopefully this will go far to making things better for everyone.

The BAP isn't obviously going to work like in the TT due to the hidden units rule not really being implementable.

They refuse to change weapon weights and critical slot amount because it will break stock mechs, which is the same reason they have weapons included that are almost never useful. This is my problem with sticking too close to canon, some things have to change because they don't translate to real time or to a non campaign setting (ammo supply lines and such). These things need to change IMO because they were never balanced in TT to begin with, so pulling them and not reworking for a different system is bad upon bad.

Edit: I haven't listened/read anything from the night cause I went from sleep to work while it was happening, but I will say I'm glad everyone could put their differences aside and talk about things. It's too often that civility is lacking out of game because of in game grievances when we all have a lot more in common.

I'm listening to this one - http://www.twitch.tv...nix/b/435960571

Sounds like WoL will be coming out with an edited version of the audio.

my favourite part is how all these [people] think convergence and any other arbitrary nerf to aim skill will stop them getting stomped. Like what do u guys want when u hit a mech dice to appear on the screen and roll to see where u hit?

I couldn't stay awake for the event itself, but I was in the jabber channel for a couple of hours before I fell asleep. It was good to see that even though there was common ground on a lot of points there were dissenting voices that forced us to qualify and explain why we did or didn't like certain things, rather than it just being accepted that "Feature X is bad" and the statement going unchallenged.

That there was so much common ground was a pleasant surprise though.

I think the hashtag thing was as a reaction to the last patch notes being full of the damn things.

Seriously thanks to the Goons for this great initiative. The fact that they bring ire in the game through their Squawking only means that they at least try to make the game not so boring, and I not-so-secretly enjoy playing against them and killing them.

PGI can try to maintain the illusion that they have a huge player base just based on signups, but once they correlate the list of petition signatories with the amount of time and money we have put into this game, I am hopeful they'll change their ways such that the game improves. If they do not, then they may not deserve to have a community this awesome.

#hashtag!

Thanks to everyone that made this such an awesome event! The fun isn't over though, as we've got GBs of audio to process, notes to consolidate, and signatures to gather. Oh, and don't forget to read and sign THE LETTER... unit leaders, PM me to represent your unit with a signature!

EDIT: If you, as a unit/community leader, feel like anything is missing or "off" about this letter, please PM me here on the forums and lets have a conversation about it. We want to represent the community, while at the same time sending a concise initial communication to PGI that will grab their attention.

I would like to extend my apologies to folks that either didn't get a chance to speak as much as they wanted to last night, or who weren't moved up to the Speaker's Corner after the event started. The response was so overwhelming to last night's event that we had to keep things moving so we could cover the ground we needed to in order to make the event generally meaningful. We still want to hear from you and incorporate your thinking...

The conversation isn't over, though! Unit and community leaders, you are invited to Mecha Lingua, a community leader's forum (via a Skype Chat channel) for discussing and hashing out these sorts of things and continuing to push things forward. PM me (Stalkerr) here on the MWO forums to gain access. We have our next meeting in 2 weeks, see you then!

That stream sucks, the dude who recorded it is incredibly annoying, no one cares what he has to say, and all his little comments detract from the important issues at hand, skip it and wait for something better.

Minus the 38 minutes where he clearly has no idea what he is doing as well.

We should pull that down because PGI is not going to take us seriously if they see us making a drinking game out of it...

We've got 48 GBs of raw audio being processed right now. We'll link it in this thread, and in an updated "consolidated" thread we're working on (that new thread's OP will summarize everything up till now, with links, for easy consumption).
