Much as I'd like the open style, PGI is probably better off only allowing for paid for private matches and vs simualtions, thus keeping drops outside of the universe CW restricted to pay cbills to drop matches. The community will keep spending moeny so long as they have to come through the MWO UI to drop matches in the universe to earn cbills - and thus spending cbills to enter tournaments that have a payout in cbills involves every user created game into the overarching MWO universe - and this is of great benefit to the game.
if pgi let players rent servers the community would fracture instead. this did happen to Tribes and is one reason Tribes failed.
I still disagree One example was the MSN gamming zone for MechWarrior which was online for 10 years and millions of MechWarrior's played on there servers 24/7 7 days a week with Mechwarrior3-Mechwarrior4 Vengeance-Mechwarrior4 Black Knight-And Mechwarrior4 Mercenaries. Now think if PGI remade the MSN gamming zone and allowed private matches but only asked you purchased a premium account Im sure everyone that wanted to play in private leagues would buy one plus most MechWarrior's want to keep up with Mr. Jones the top MechWarrior pilot so they would also purchase other items mechs bays to have that mech unit etc. to fill a role in there clan or inner sphere unit. Plus if PGI wants to try there hand at a CW meta for the community im sure most would play both CW and private matches. Here is what the old msn gamming zone looked like there were 6 servers for MechWarrior with 100 rooms each and live chat holding up to 100,000 players each and most were full 24/7 7 days a week for almost 2 years I know I was a MSN game admin for the MSN gamming zone for MechWarrior.
