Especially terrible when you consider the backstory of the PB and it's pilot is that she's supposed to be able to make the thing dance on the head of a pin, the most nimble Awesome/Pilot in the history of Solaris V.
When you see a PB in-game the damn thing stumbles around like Lurch.

The real problem with the Awesomes is that they do in my opinion terrible brawlers due to their huge torsos. In ANY brawl you are always the first to die because you don't have the sheer amoutn of armour of an Atlas and every random bullet is gonna end on your torsi no matter what. So basically, even the worst pilot ever is gonna land hits on you, while they would miss on other chassis.
So, no matter how many SRMs you can fit on your Pretty Baby, you are never gonna run in and gun, you are never gonna charge, and with 3 srms you are not gonna make anyone explode. Assaults are gonna swallow your SRMs, sure they hurt, but it takes plenty to kill a big mech with missiles that spread everywhere, IF the hits register, and if they don't miss. That leavs us to the non-missile weapons.
What more can you put on than 2 ERPPC? 20 damage isn't much these days, not to mention that they are hot as hell. It is very hard to come up with any heat efficient build on the baby, no matter what you do those ERPPCs are not gonna shoot too much. Which leaves you unable to face pretty much NO ONE.
That's the point with the PRetty Baby and the Awesomes in general. You are gonna die much much faster than your armour would make you think. Hell, any Centurion is much more durable than any Awesome. In order to make things a little bit better I downgraded to a Standard engine (which negates the perk of the Pretty Baby) and as a result I still die a lot (all hits magically go to the CT) but sometimes I survive with a crippled side. Still, my firepower isn't enough to kill stuff before they annihilate my huge CT, and if I shoot my two energy weapons and my 3srms 6 I do good damage but I overheat very quickly, not to mention that I can't swing my torso to prevent damage as efficiently if I am staggering my SRM in order to mess up my opponent's aim.
Bottom line is, the Pretty Baby doesn't really have a good role due to the big huge issue of all Awesomes on top of having terrible hardpoints. I LOVE my Pretty Baby, but that's because I am obsessive and sometimes a *********. Sure I can score kills, but I am severely gimping myself (and m team) by going out with an Awesome instead of any other Assault. Which is very sad.
Recently I changed my build to 2 pulse large lasers and 2 SRM6, my damage is down, my range is crappy, so I play as a predator. I stay behind the line of my friendly assaults and come out for the kill when anyone gets close to us. Again, I don't think it is a good way to play for the team, but this is where I think PGI has relegated the Pretty Baby in the actual meta if you don't want to die as soon as they see you.
Sad.

XL400 (if you aren't running this, why run a PB at all?)
2 LLs
1 ML
2 SRM6s
1 SRM4
Endo, Ferro, DHS, nearly max armor
Swapping an SRM6 for an SRM4 allows me to run 4T of ammo, which is necessary given that SRMs still kind of suck.
I just checked my stats. 242 matches with a 1.48 K/D ratio. This is pretty sad. The most disappointing thing about the PB is I have to play like a coward to survive. In my Victors, I feel like I can take the fight to the enemy whenever I want. Huge difference in play style and satisfaction.

i agree with everything you have said; i too do well in it but i know im gimping my team. the mech is not durable at all because it is easy to hit but im not complaining about its crappy design im complaining that its not equal to other awesome's and assaults. i really hope the devs at least see this point.
it sucks i cant enter a fight first but it sucks even more that i have no weapons.

Perfectly worded, my fellow Pretty Baby pilot. Perfectly worded. That's the most humiliating thing. In order to do "decently" we have to hide at all time behnd an Atlas DDC with ECM or nothing is gonna save us from a horrible missile death where everything EVERYTHING hit our CT. So we have to play an assault 'mech, a superfast one which moves like a truck (thanks to the messed up deceleration perk) and can't change direction to save its life, as a giant metal coward hiding behind big brothers. How stupid is that? And to call it "Awesome". What a joke.

It is possible to be in the green with a Pretty Baby and an XL engine, but there's a difference between being in the green (as noted above, by playing like a coward) and actually bringing something to the battle and the team. What we bring is a weak assault, which will count for another more useful (pilot not withstanding) assault in the other team.

- 4 tubes in the left arm (can't really burst with SRM6 or properly fire any LRMs that won't be chewed up by AMS)
- Uneven energy hardpoint distribution (RA & LT are difficult to aim together and the one in the head can't mount a larger weapon)
The PB is still my favorite mech. I hope it gets improved a little sometime.

since you do not have enough front end fire power, you can not poke your head out and duck back under cover (walk forward and then backward) what do i mean by this? well simply put, noone is backing off in trench warfare against you even if you fire and hit first. ok fine, so you dont do that and you choose to run in then run out. your way way to huge and not fast enough to pull anything like that off without getting everything damaged to bits. so you try to run out and run around people or around corners, and the best way to make a sharp turn is slow down but the PB doesnt slow down so all your turn radius are huge.
its too slow and big to run away from anything and its to slow and big to run around anything and there is no firepower or armor to support this weakness. im looking all over the forums for any post by devs about the PB and their thoughts, its impossible to find anything.
if im to get lousy deceleration i should maybe get great acceleration in return? or just take all that crap away and at least make it on par with the other awesome.

I like my PB as is and rarely feel like I've gimped my team, sure another laser would be cool though the heat might become an issue then.
Atm mine is at 1.28 efficiency using SRMs and Pulse lasers (I stopped using regulars because I felt like I was cheating the other players with the spamability).
I earn my kills in her and when I just YOLO round a corner into the face of a stalker or atlas it's all the sweeter getting that kill.
She's the Awesome for people with 5 balls and spares in the glove compartment.
XL engine
2x LPL
1x MPL
3x 6SRM
double heat sinks
standard armor
standard structure

The Awesome needs buffs in general. It's just too wide.

whoa! an extra crit slot in the head would be so amazing, that's a great idea! it would surely make it unique and open up some more build options. sad to say though that the p2w whiners would have a hay day.....hence why most heroes almost seem gimped in comparison to the standard counterparts with the exception of ilya. I mean look at GB, one extra EN HP so they gimped the engine size by, what, 290 compared to 360. kinda severe
