When is PGI going to do something about the majority of players playing Assaults? Their heat "solution" isnt working. You still get hit by the PPC boats. There is no reason to play a light or medium with the present meta.

A lot of it has to do with player style. First is that most players are not interested in any other objective other than "destroy all enemy mechs". This objective tends to favor much heavier mechs to begin with. And if you try to obtain any of the other objectives, you have mass QQing from the assault pilots.

Second was the PPC-mageddon that has just recently curtailed by the heat penalties. These are the 6 PPC Stalkers that could 1 shot kill just about any mech other than another assault. Now that players have been piloting the heavier mechs for some time, they aren't as likely to pilot a lighter and more "fragile" mech. Especially since the majority of PPC boaters have switched to 2 PPCs + Gauss which can still pretty much one shot most mediums.

How can PGI change this? They can start by weighting the rewards for completing objectives that tend to favor light and medium mechs. A second would be the return of Repair & Rearm in some fashion (though that introduces a whole other set of problems). Another would be some for of weight class limits (such as no more than 3 of any particular weight class), or flat out weight limits. PGI has already stated that they are looking into some for of weight limit system.

As a player, you can begin by running Conquest over Assault. Conquest does tend to favor smaller, faster mechs over slow, lumbering assaults. Most players treat Assault as team death match and will tend to bring in the most amount of guns and armor they can. Thus, when they lose to a base capture, we have umteen threads complaining on and on about base capturing and how a small group of players aren't playing Assault as a team death match.
