I played a few games today after the patch and noticed a lot of ppl DC'ing - more than usual. Anyone else noticing this?

BTW ... Love the new map... but would like UI2.0 more than new mechs and maps...

Patch looks great. Big things for sure, with the linkages the pinpoint meta is finally dead. I'm sure PGI will look at PPC/Gauss combos as needed, one thing at a time folks.

No. Like someone already pointed out, they are doing it to prevent future problems.

#1 lol to the people that think the pinpoint meta is dead. I hope I get to drop against you. Until you eliminate pinpoint damage (GASP) everyone will still be making mechs that put the most PINPOINT damage in however big of chunks the current gameplay mechanics will allow.
#2 Pairing pinpoint weapons together that are wildy different in range, duration, weapon type, etc. IS the definition of reflexive. This is not going to fix any future problems, it merely highlights the poor design choices that are going to continue being a problem until they are specifically addressed.

QQ more it helps. Their taking the fun out of the game? BS you people decided winning was more important than fun long ago. No matter what they do people will dive on whatever boats winning and those who don't cry. They try to fix it then the exploiters cry and find the next easiest way to win. Rinse repeat.

Totally, the game has never been better.

But in all seriousness... I really can't wait to fight on Volcano map.
But in more seriousness... I'm concerned about what they look to achieve by ghost heat and where this system is going. I hope it remains a "behind the scenes" bandaid until they get out the main features, and they will revisit the entire heat structure and implement a more user friendly and natural way to calculate heat in a way that makes sense, is less arbitrary, and isn't hidden from the pilot. Trying to find this data 3 months from now is borderline data mining. That Heat Scale - The Maths thread by Paul is going to be burried, and unless you know which patch the heat scale came out on you won't know to google "July 16th MWO patch notes"

It's really an odd-ball way of solving the problem. Out-of-the-box thinking for sure, but maybe the apple is falling a little too far away from the tree on this one.

Will the heat penalty be documented in game with this patch, or will we have to wait for UI 2.0?

Awesome screen name...hahaha!

I love it how PGI talks about implementing steps to make the game more user-friendly to new players, and then implement a heat scale system that is confusing even established players.

This kind of tacked on system is only going to be frustrating for new players as they try to figure it out with no guidance whatsoever from the game itself.

Well I patched the game, and clicked on the "Play" button and it turns into a "Please Wait" button and sits there forever and does nothing..

I have uninstalled the game and re-installed the game and it does the same exact thing.

This Heat scale in the newest patch changed almost nothing. We are still seeing 1xGauss 2xPPC Cataphracts legging light mechs with one shot.

Seriously, I was having such a high hopes for this balance patch and was looking forward to play with new rules, but this is getting ridiculous.

How about 2LL and 2PPC? Is the catch phrase / talking points now 2PPC/Gauss.

Well, only reason is because if you are going to link the PPCs/ERPPCs, LRMs, and SRMs together, might as well treat the Large Lasers the same even if no one is using them.

Ooh ooh! I know! Because 2 LLs and 2 ERPPCs have such great synergy together due to their similar projectile speeds and range. Everyone knows that LLs are great for sniping, since you don't have to keep your torso on target that long.

Did I win?

Hate the new map. Yet again PGI makes a map that makes it better for Assaults over the other chassis. Little paths with straight lines and high mountains make it hard to set up a brawl. However, PPCs and LRMs are definitely at an advantage. Lights and Mediums dont have any room to maneuver to get onto the backs of larger mechs.

Nice Job PGI!!! Way to say one thing, like wanting more lights and mediums in game, and then doing the exact opposite. A shame that this has become a pattern.

Tonnage matching is going to force people to play lights and mediums which should help a lot.

I can't wait till ejection seats are in, that's going to be so much fun as a light, get up to max speed and then eject, switch to 3rd person and watch.

Maybe we'll get to use sidearms and shoot at other ejected pilots!

You gatta admit.. The map does look pretty cool, though. I haven't tried in my lights yet, but it's no different than Canyon, and it's not that hard to sneak behind someone in Canyon, even in a light with no jumpjets. Volcano looks like a lower scale Alpine maps and popping an UAV on one side of a volcano, and peeling around the otherside to get at their backs doesn't seem too hard. Just think a little more, and be even more trickier B), That's main reason why I like piloting lights, it's the only class at the moment that is asking stuff from ME. I can do a whole lot with lights that define the outcome of my damage and kills, where as heavier mechs... It's either be a sniper, or walk into peoples faces.
I like being able to zip around, stop, turning, and run the other way and trick people. Tag for LRM's, etc. Much more engaging :)

I think the most amusing part of the new heat scale is they call the weapon limit the "max alpha" limit. But you may have 3 PPCs and some other weapons but regardless of whether or not you alpha strike or just group fire the PPCs you still get the heat penalty. Naming fail.

Also, anytime someone can take one of multiple "blackboard" slides you used to explain a game design and photoshop it into a scene from Glen Beck's TV show in such a way that it is side splittingly hilarious you really need to sit down and think long and hard about the decisions you have made.

Is it just me... but in brief play, I have seen like... no LRM boats.

In fact, I see more PPC + Gauss.

I'm sure this is working as intended™.

The heat penalties limit actual missile boating as 2 LRM20s is the max before the heat penalty creeps up. I'm not sure how 3 LRM10s or 3 LRM15s fare, but I think this patch has literally removed LRM boats from the game.

Note: It may encourage more 2 LRM10/LRM15/LRM20 + # LRM5 builds... which I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing (I don't use LRMs, so I cannot properly comment).

The heat maths for the LRM-10 being limited to 2 killed my C4.

The only option left is PPC meta or the A1 for LRMs for me.
The lack of a PPC heat change (which still wouldn't be enough as PPC should be 10 and ERPPC 15) left the meta the same old poptarts and snapshot boaters.

So I got sick of it. Again.

Seriously PGI, get your act in gear and make good changes or this thing won't last the first year.
