But I agree with others. If you step into the main cauldera you should RAPIDLY heat up and eventually explode. Not even a Mech should be able to bathe in lava.

At 2:25 they begin to shovel the lava and it sticks to the shovel, Imagine what it would do to the feet/legs of a mech.

The technical design is lacking in some areas though, especially where hitboxes are concerned. A lot of the choke points leading to theta have horrible, horrible invisible walls extending an awesome width or so from the rendered geography. I've submitted bug and location reports, and everyone else should too. That needs to be fixed with a technical pass, and soon.
Strategically, It's awesome. Though theta has very little cover inside, if you land a large enough force in there, you can hold it easily, as the external approaches leading to it are amazing choke points. Most of them will only allow one mech to stack around corners leading to it, meaning you can't really peek-a-boo with the entrenched enemy either.
It is very, very easy to get separated and blunder about if you are in a pug with poor communication though. Stick with the group! Even if you get lost, you then get lost together.
Also, only the flowing lava seems to have any effect on you, so treat the solid glowing stuff as roads, and the map suddenly becomes far more open. I've seen countless numbers of players inexplicably avoiding anything that looks hot, then complaining about the lack of movement options.

maps should not be this "round" they should be more linear and not be so easy for two sides to just drift past each other and just do circles around the map with no action for heck as long as 10+ minutes.
last game both teams decided to base camp apart from a few scouts and nothing happened for 10min and eventually the timer ran out. first time ever I've had that.
this map is bad, both the game modes are bad. need work. That large snow & mountain map is bad enough, this is worse.
I want to point out again that I think it looks great.

On my last run there my Raven tore up an Atlas with hardly a scratch. That place is a sniper's paradise.

Looks great. Nice feel. Boring gameplay every single time. You either walk to the other base and cap, or cap a few points and then try and stumble into a few of the other team's mechs. If you actually have a team that stays together, it's almost assured that you are not going to come into contact with the other team.
And with resource capping, this map is the light mech wunderland. Run, cap. See big baddy, run around corner. Cap somewhere else.
Dull, dull, dull.

It's so big, it usually ends with someone capping the other base when most of your forces have past the halfway point.
Since folks tend to do better in heavy mechs these days, faster mechs are in short supply.

If you do this within park boundries you may not want to take them out of the park due to the federal laws (not like the volcano will miss the lava). If this is the case, after you have had your fun simply smash the rock whisk against the cold lava and the rock will break away from the whisk and you can now take the whisk out without fear of the rangers wrath.
Other things can be dipped into lava, just about anything, including making a lava patty and pressing silver dollars into it, etc. You are limited only by your imagination.

Lifting Lava...
This technique REQUIRES you to have these special gloves. Do NOT attempt this without the gloves we indicate. This is NOT trivial and can be very dangerous.
You can actually hold liquid lava in your gloved hand with the right gloves. Using the spun glass and kevlar gloves grip the edge of an active lava flow firmly with your hand and lift up. You will, with difficulty, be able to lift the flow from the ground. This is an amazing thing to do and it is quite a surprise to see the the rock under the flow is solid, cold lava rock. The liquid rock, even though it is 2000°F, has not had enough time in direct contact with the cold rock to bond or melt the cold rock. If you see liquid lava pouring out of a hole (called a firehose) you can even cup your hand in the flow and let the lava pour through your gloved fingers.

Standard BattleMech armor is composed of several layers providing various degrees of protection and support. Is it hot? Yes. More shutdown mechs to kill, fine for me.
Does it look nice? Yes. But too dark, not just the ususal foggy grey-green-brown soup like all the other maps except Canyon and Alipne, but this time it's black, so you don't see ****. My eyes are bleeding. And I thought the hailstorm in FC is bad.
Does it play good? Hell no. Invariably someone decides f**k this s**t, I'm gonna cap it and be outta here in 2 minutes flat, gg. And you know what? While I think Assault mode should be team deathmatch, in this instance, I perfectly agree with them. I don't even care which side wins by cap, just end the map as fast as possible.
This map is just wasting players time.

....BUT until PGI actually does something about users who abuse custom CFGs/SweetFX, there will always be a low life element gaining a very significant sight advantage over honest players.
Until PGI does something, I'll never much care for any of the maps that seriously hamper vision be it dark, foggy, etc. Not when there are so many scumbags out there who can simply turn it off, turn up the lights, change draw distances, etc.

Actually it could be hotter, especially the smaller lava streams. Standing in the waist-high lava, like under the center platform does damage... though the smaller streams dont.
Amazing map if you have a Light or Medium, bravo!
