If you are using a paid version of AVG, I agree, wait. (I subscribe (with money) to Avast myself) If you are using free versions of AV programs, try another one. The workaround for Avast works, but I do not know if the trial version allows you to disable the hardware virtualization like the paid version does. (I am using this workaround only after confirming with Avast that it posed no problem)

You may be having a similar problem/symptom but it may not be an AVG/MWO conflict. The only way to determine that is if you had completely uninstall AVG first (and reboot) then ran MWO without any issues. That is how the conflict between Avant/MWO was discovered. It does not sound like you actually did any troubleshooting than to disable AVG.

Anyway, same issues for me. Can't install the game. Stuck on please wait. I don't have AMD, though. This game looks interesting but if it's gonna be such a ***** to even get it installed, I'll be better off seeing if it's fixed a few months later. I don't know if it's conflicting with Avast or not, but it's hard to blame Avast for that.

dude.. pay attention.. you are not uninstalling Avast. Avast is too stupid to actually check your working ports so it's shutting down the game. The only way for it to check is to do it on initial install. It's not MWO it's Avast that is borking it up.

Hardware assisted virtualisation enables use of some hardware acceleration features designed to speed up virtual machines. Disabling this feature doesn't disable the VM-based code analysis and sandbox systems nor reduce it's capabilities or security.
With this unticked, Avast's virtual code execution and sandbox features will be very slightly slower, that's all.
If you disable virtual machine acceleration features in your BIOS, it will have the same effect, as Avast won't see any hardware acceleration features to use.
Many BIOSes have VM acceleration disabled as default which could be why this problem varies from system to system.
EDIT: additional info for the curious: Unless you run full operating systems in VMs (like Virtual Box, Citrix or VirtualPC etc etc,) there's no good reason to enable hardware VM support. In fact it can slow down non-VM code. Very very very slightly. Enabled, it can speed up VM code very very slightly. It's not a deal-winning or breaking feature unless you depend of VMs running 24/7 at the maximum speed possible (eg are running a Citrix server!). Which is why most BIOSes disable it. My information is a year or two old and I suspect more modern implementations have mitigated inefficiencies introduced by VM acceleration and have VM acceleration enabled by default (and some people turn it on in the BIOSes themselves) but commenting further would mean I'd have to do some research and I'm lazy. Just untick the box in Avast or disable hardware VM acceleration in your BIOS. Avast will be fine.
Holy ****, someone who plays this game knows what Citrix is.. **** just got real.

That being said, Avast! has been in business since the year I was born (1988, for those who wonder), and yes, CS 1.5 did have issues with Avast! a long time ago, in the days pre-dating Steam (The local LAN cafe at the time had to switch from a paid Avast license to another AV as a result). That being said, I have a home built system, and MWO was not working for me for the longest time as a result of the very patch causing issues for all of you, and it turned out that running MSI AfterBurner, TeamViewer, and Hamachi in the background caused network issues when they previously had not (MWO gave an error about not being able to find my internet connection). Uninstalling these programs was not necessary, but completely exiting from all but TeamViewer was... Running the other two softwares by themselves caused random glitches, and running TeamViewer with them caused game crashes (Teamviewer alone still creates graphical artifacting and missing textures on the Ice City maps, but I need it running because I use it to administer a game server I run for another game, and to help friends and family with computer issues, and I like it better than join.me).
All that aside, I have an AMD FX-6300, an AMD 7850 IceQ, and obviously, an AMD chipset motherboard (from Biostar). The issue lies not in the particular CPU, but is apparently in the northbridge and southbridge chipsets, with the newer 9XX Chipsets and the SB 750 and 850 being largely unaffected, as I have no issues, and I am one of those people who manually turns on the Virtualization Acceleration in the BIOS... Also, the one dev mentioned something about the SSE2 Compiler flag, which immediately brought a litigation lawsuit from AMD, and also an anti-trust one from the US Supreme Court, regarding unfair business practices... part of the lawsuit revolved around poaching staff, stealing technological advances (such as the turbo core feature), forcing OEM's to sign contracts that limited the number of allowed AMD CPU systems sold without losing their OEM discounts, and also...
MAKING AN INDUSTRY STANDARD (and thus widely used) COMPILER, WHICH HAPPENED TO BE CONVENIENTLY (or in other words, INTENTIONALLY) BUGGED TO NOT PROPERLY CONFIGURE FOR AMD CPU APPLICATIONS!!!

***EDIT*** I forgot to mention I have Avast installed... I mentioned how long Alwill SOftware has been in business, and my knowledge of the CS 1.5 bug, and even my enabling AMD-v in the BIOS, but I forgot that tidbit... *slowly removes foot from mouth*
Either way, I have my sandbox feature enabled, and I was just playing a few hours ago... it's almost 6 AM here now, but I played for a good hour from around 1 to 2...

When I found out about MWO, I cried, I literally cried because I was literally THAT happy... And when I got that email with the NDA attachment, I kid you not, I screamed like a little girl... And keep in mind, I am a vocalist for a local Death Metal band (I have been told I sound a bit like Randy Blythe crossed with Alex Koehler, with bits of Trevor Strnad, Anders Friden, Phil Anselmo and Tommy Giles Rogers, Jr. mixed in there as well... If you like metal, and you don't know who any of those people are... *shakes head*... Still, I don't think I could replicate that scream without shredding my vocal chords trying to figure out how the hell I did it...

Pointing out a thread on the Avast forums (was doing some research on something else). A few postings at least 2 months earlier Avast had an update that affected several other games and they had to fix it on their side.
And then with their update at the end of May 2013. Sadly Gremlich was the only MWO that I could find who posted in the Avast forums, and this was in August.

Simply posting this so those who are "holding out" should follow Gremlich's example, and to tie into the previous post by Lithium.

Unique, because it is a combination of different characteristics of other unique sounding vocalists, to create a new uniqueness out of the different aspects of the uniqueness of others, especially since I can do more than 4 different types of screams, and all have different combinations of characteristics depending on the type of scream... If you ever watch the Zen of Screaming videos, I use every technique she goes over... False chords, vocal fry, death growls, inhales, and I can apply elements of the fry, false chords, and death growls to actual sang vocals, in addition to being able to do hardcore shouted vocals... and, I can intentionally warp my timbre to almost exactly mimic the sound of some of those vocalists I mentioned, though I usually reserve that for vocal covers on YouTube... Hell, I can even do Tuvan Throat Singing And, I can do arpeggios with my screams, and even scream pop and R&B songs on key, including a few by Akon...
I am traditionally educated in Music Theory, as before I began studying IT in college, I was originally a Music Theory Education major... I changed my major after I realized I was NOT as good with guitar as I thought, and also struggled with Piano...

I'm in the same boat as you. Lodged a ticket with support recently and am trying some things at the mo that they suggested. If it works, I'll let you know.

The last 2 patches (17th and Oct 1) the DL speed has been excruciatingly SLOW. I mean slow to the point that it would take days to complete if I left it running.
My inet DL is 6Meg. Speedtest shows all is good. Tracert shows no problem getting to patcher.mwomercs.com. All pings in tracert between 10 and 30ms.
So today(wed oct 2nd) I decided to uninstall and reinstall. Started this at 7am eastern. The 1st 2gig came down as expected less than 1 hour and then it slowed to a vitual halt. So I did tests again ----> Speedtest shows all is good. Tracert shows no problem getting to patcher.mwomercs.com. All pings in tracert between 10 and 30ms.
All appears that the patcher server is slowing down to an almost standstill with my patcher.
I have:
1. Uninstalled reinstalled avast and rebooted - rerun patcher - same problem it has been 40 minutes now and I am at stuck at 2.35MB / 2956MB with the PLEASE WAIT.
2. I have unchecked "Enable hardware-assisted virtualization" and rebooted -- same problem
3. Following a suggestion from Avast I have excluded the Piranha Games folder and all sub folder
4. I have tried using the repair tool to get the files down.
Rebooted after each and none of these have provided any change.
This issue has been outstanding for some time. Could someone from PGI please post in this thread whether or not it is actively being worked on so those of us that are effected can stop wasting our time.
Thank you
