THIS is now, perhaps, the ONE reason to own a BJ-1DC.
Put simply, it's one of VERY few mechs that can now run Gauss reasonably well, thanks to that generic 25% ballistic cooldown quirk (as opposed to the -1, which gets 12.5% generic and 12.5% AC/2 only). Not IDEAL, on a 45-tonner with no JJs and a small engine cap. Still, even with the 225 it can keep abreast of the Clan heavies (respectable for an IS medium). Throw in a Gauss cooldown module, and it's one of the fastest-firing Gaussers in the game. Add the ridiculous structure quirks of the Blackjack, and the significant capacity for backup lasers. BJ-1 is better for AC/2, and better overall in terms of mobility. But for OTHER ballistics, with an eye on DPS over fun or mobility, the 1DC is the Beej to have.

Bj-1Dc, Why?

I run twin AC/2s and quad Medium lasers in my 1DC. I do a lot of sniping with it, harrassing and making people break contact. I find it a pretty fun build.
