You've all been swarmed by lights. You stray just inches away from your group and then 5 lights pounce on you and kill you in mere seconds. You can't seem to hit any of them. Well, I have a solution. Stop the boating of lights.

This charts shows the maximum number of mechs your team can carry before gaining a team penalty:

class / limit / penalty
------------------------------------------
Light Mechs / 2 / 25%
Medium Mechs / 4 / 10%
Heavy Mechs / 3 / 20%
Assault Mechs / 2 / 40%

What happens if you exceed the number of mechs? Your mechs in that class lose a percentage of armor, speed, and firepower equal to the percent listed in the chart multiplied by the number of mechs exceeding the limit.

For example: If you bring 2 light mechs, 2 medium mechs, 3 heavy mechs and 1 assault mech, your team suffers no penalty. However, if you bring 4 light mechs, 1 heavy mech, and 3 assault mechs then all 4 of the light mechs suffer a 50% penalty (25*2) to speed, armor and firepower and all assault mechs suffer a 40% penalty (40*1) to speed, armor and firepower.

(*if you haven't figured out that this is an obvious mock of PGI's weapon boating solution, then I feel sorry for you)

Lights wouldn't be a problem if your hits actually registered on them.

There should be penalties but they should be economic. There should be drop weight penalties. I mean it costs money to get the mechs to the battlefield and retrieve them. With repair and rearm out for good I don't see the economy in this game at all. Its kinda just grinding Cbills to your next mech which feels so out of line with the canon its not even funny.

Mediums and lights are supposed to be the most common mechs on the battlefield but without any financial penalty to bringing heavies and assaults (its actually more advantageous since you always earn more on average in them) there is no reason to run them at all other than for the **** of it.

lol. Any mech pounced on by 5 other mechs (of any class) would die in an instant. You'd die faster if you were pounced by 5 heavies.

And you'd look less foolish if you read posts in their entirety before replying.

and why should it be a penalty to have a lance of 1 mech class? Don't recall the thread, but it was mentioned the lights class is actually under-represented. To that end, to date, I have only had/seen maybe 2 matches in which either side had 4 or more lights.

All that needs to happen for lights to be put in their place is for collision to come back.
