But how many people satisfactorily completed the beta survey, and how many of those passed the hardware requirements, and how many of those have been consistently active in the community (all supposedly factors in beta selection).
Normally I would expect my chances to be significantly higher, but then again I've been poisoning the well, so I guess I'll see you guys in July.

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark, and say those stats are slightly low. Not too low, because I think a lot of the registered forum users are lurkers, like I was. But still, low.

The first one is definitely something to consider, but there aren't really any hardware "requirements". Actually you have about an equal chance to get in if you have some expensive gaming machine as if you have a budget rig, as the developers have stated they want to get a mix of hardware from all ends of the spectrum. As for that last part, that's delusional. The beta is a random sampling of users, it has nothing to do with how many posts you make.

An admin posted a little bit ago that the current count is 6000 keys given away since May 25th .... might want to update your numbers.

I did my best to find all the "New batch of Beta Keys!!!" posts I could. If anyone could point me towards the post(s) with the keys I'm missing I'll update the numbers real quick.

I am going to assume (possibly incorrectly) the the beta test will require a PC that can at least run the game. Performance tuning comes later, otherwise why go to the trouble of collecting hardware profiles.

Secondly. 110,000 registered users have never posted on the forums, which approximately 70% of the registered users [citation]. That is 110,000 who probably don't even visit these forums and probably will not even acknowledged a beta invite. Doesn't it make much more sense to select active registered users, who you can count on to test the product?

did you factor in how many beta keys were wasted by people popping in and breaking the nda before downloading?

That's not particularly accurate either, I visit and read daily, but since the site uses a badly coded java popup for login, it doesn't remember my login and I CBA to actually login EVERY time I visit the site to read forum posts.

At least run the game, sure. But that's still a really wide berth. Actually I'd imagine they're getting more mid-low range computers in on the beta than high-end ones, as it stands to reason that most of their development/testing in-house computers are in the med-high to high-end range and thus don't require as much input on stability as something lower on the spectrum.

But that isn't relevant. I've seen a few NDA-breeching beta posts so far from people who, prior to that, hadn't made a single post. So it's obvious they're handing them out randomly with zero preference towards "community involvement", and that's the way it should be honestly. Like I've said in other threads, CBT isn't "early access for big fans", it's a random and varied sampling of a userbase intended to test and guage assorted features. If they started handing out keys for "community involvement", post whoring rates would go through the roof and the forums would be a mess. Suffice it to say I doubt this is anything the developers want to encourage in the slightest.

I'm not suggesting that the most posts win, but I think if we had a statistic of "number of registered users who filled out a beta profile (complete or not)" we would get a more accurate statistic of who is interested in beta testing, or if we knew how many beta keys had been redeemed. But it's PGI's game and I suppose some people prefer the shotgun to the scalpel.

While the percentages look small, it's not depressing.

Depressing is telling a friend to go join the forums and apply for the beta, then finding out he applied on a Thursday and got into the beta 24 hours later, on the Friday.

Festus is mildly depressed now. :)

So I've been keeping track of the beta key flow and crunching numbers, mostly for myself but for my co-workers and friends as well.

Where do you work that your coworkers are so interested in MWO beta numbers?
