The sad amount of buffonery in this game is reaching alltime highs.
Nerf this I don't like it.
Nerf that I don't like that either.
Jebus let's just get instant respawns.
We can call it Call of Mechwarrior instead.

As it is now, seismic is utterly useless as both a scouting tool and as a self-defense warning tool. Range too short. Way too short.

Than go poke your head over a ridge or go from behind and look for Mechs with your Mech Warrior's Elf Eyes.

Legolas uses his Eyes, Not Seismic

You know Viktor, they always could have set it up to work like it does on the TT and only have detected mechs/ vehicles above 80 tons that are moving. Not that that would really make too much of a difference right now, at least in the Steiner Scout Lance heavy Pug matches.

If a 250m warning is ruining your flanking maneuver your doing it wrong. Just sayin.

For one, you are simply wrong.

Second, half the maps in the game contain major features such as caves, tunnels, etc. which can be useful routes of attack or retreat. These are neutralized by one mech near that area with a seismic sensor. It benefits campers.

Third, you don't get to surprise cappers anymore. They know if they are out-numbered, which way you are coming from, which way not to run, etc.

Siesmic went from marginally useful to second worst module (next to "advanced zoom"), when they radically alter the performance characteristics of a module PGI should offer refunds.

I disagree on both counts. It's a good module, and they shouldn't have to spend time on refunding CB or MC on things because of game-balance changes. That would be an obstacle to actually getting the damn game balanced correctly, as if PGI doesn't create enough obstacles already.

The new ranges of seismic sensor dosen't worth the cost in GXP and C-Bills.
17500 GXP is to expensive now.

Seismic sensor isn't fun now.

You only bought one? I went straight to the poor house outfitting mechs with these. Still has it's uses, just not the requirement it was.

I'm space poor. I only buy one of everything, including engines. Most of my mechs sit in the bay without engines unless I move one over. <_<

The sad thing is, this logic is flawed.

Old seismic out to 400m 'giving away' your light mech? LULZ.

How fast does that light travel? Oh ..right. It clocks 130 speed.

How long does it take for said mech to come up and touch you? Less than 3 seconds.

Seismic was NEVER a defense against light mechs.

Oh if only I would have counted all of the times that I worked my way around an enemy flank to pop up behind them only to come up and get a face full of PPC when Seismic is the only way they could have spotted me.

It is a defense against lights because it limits one of the main tactics of lights(hit and run) by making it easier to track lights when they are in cover. If you don't think that is providing defense, then I don't know what you would qualify as defense.

When I first heard of it, I assumed the seismic sensor was stationary like CoD's portable radar — bet on a corridor the enemy will likely travel. That would make sense.

But something that actively works against PGI's "fog of war" premise for role warfare?

I'm surprised this thing evens remains in the game. Where's the thrill of counting horses while the enemy draws beads on you?

Agreed, seismic should require you to be stationary to work at all.

While this would be a logical limitation, think about this:
Scouts are usually mobile and moving around a lot.
Assaults and Snipers in generall are usually slow and often stationary.

This limitaitons would hurt the Scouts the most.

To make it useful for scouts, you might need it to be exactly the opposite thing - the faster you move, the longer its range.

Or you can keep the limitation idea, but also limit it to be only usable by lights and mediums.

Personally, I'd say make it directional instead of omni directional. I'd say a 90 degree cone forward of the mech.

This makes it more of an active module to use and easier to justify it's original range values.

You guys are all lame seriously. Obviously you all never used seismic and just whined and complained about it rather than using it to an advantage. Still the sad part is that each and everyone one of you benefited from it a some time or another due to someone on your team using it for Recon but are too stubborn to admit how useful it was to your team.

I use seismic in every mech every time always.
Why? Because it's so ******* OP.

I don't mind the directional versus omnidirectional aspect, but isn't a directional 90* cone is a wee bit narrow? Perhaps something around 120* would be more appropriate, don't you think? The range values could remain the same. I'd still prefer the mech to remain still in order to use it, but that's just my opinion.

It depends on if it is based on torso or leg facing.

Logically, it should be leg facing. If it is leg facing then 120 degrees would be fair.

If it is based on torso facing, then the reason why I say 90 degree is torso twist is to make it more of an active effort to utilize.. For example, if you have a mech with 120 degrees of torso twist, this means that you can detect up to 165 degrees behind you. This gives a 30 degree blindspot behind the mech which means that you have to use positioning as well as torso twisting to utilize the module.

What makes me saddest about all this is that there are MORONS, absolute f'ing MORONS out there that believe that ANYTHING, 25 tons OR MORE sporting a FUSION engine, and moving via "STEP" action (IE: lifting one support OFF the ground moving it forward, and dropping that support back on the ground), should have carte blanche to run around "stealthily".

What utter moronic BS.

You idiots QQ'd and spineless PGI, yet again, knuckles under and nerfs the bejeezus out of something the mindless, but loud, minority didn't like and didn't want to learn how to circumvent.

It was easy! Want to disappear from seismic? SLOW THE F DOWN. Seismic was only supposed to register 'mechs moving above a certain speed anyway. So small 'mechs could move stealthily IF they weren't tearing off at 150kph...

Also absolutely disgusting is the lack of any kind of refund on the purchase price. Seismic has lost 90% of its effectiveness, because by the time it actually picks up anything, if that 'mech is moving at speed, it's pretty much too late. I want a 90% MC and GXP refund on both Seismic and Adv. Seismic, and the prices on future purchases should be reduced to 10% of current value, because it's pretty much next to useless as is, and that price should reflect it. This is definitely a case of NOT getting what you paid for.

Keep in mind, 500 meters is NOT THAT MUCH DISTANCE when you're talking about 'mechs moving 60kph OR MORE, that's less than a few seconds warning...

I will have to agree I used it a lot for scouting as well and not that it has been nerfed it doesn't really serve any purpose and I want my gxp and cbills back.
