We will have to disagree on this.

First, the point of this forum is to discuss game balance. Social forums are elsewhere on the boards, and I dont bother to visit them.

Second, I believe that PGI does listen. I think they DO pay attention to the community. If I didnt I would not post. Do they follow the lead of the community? No. Do they do everything we suggest. HECK no. Do they listen? Yes

What some people here fail to realize is that it is not our job to make decisions. It is our job to suggest. If PGI uses those suggestions, great. If they consider and discard those decisions, THAT IS OK TOO. I have seen plenty of evidence to back up my belief that they listen.

Does PGI make mistakes? Absolutely. Do I think they dropped the ball on several aspects of the game structure? You betcha (I literally was clamoring for hardpoint size limits BEFORE closed beta, also late implementation of lobby and premade system, maybe 3PV (still evaluating), not using the test servers to evaluate weapon balance changes, other issues).

But what most people fail to realize is that they are making a game to their vision. We can think it is flawed is some aspect. We can even think they are incompetent. But if you really believe that, you should not really be here, and probably not be playing. In the end this is their game, their vision. We can be upset if they screw up. That is a perfectly reasonable response if we love the BT universe. But getting bitter and snarky on a board intended for game balance discussion adds ZERO value and probably makes things worse because PGI is less willing to listen.

Critical thinking doesn't work here my friend. I think you need to join in on the PGI bashing.

You are correct, you never said it was doomed. You simply said you stopped playing and decided to post on the forums. And since the posts are universally negative and add nothing to the discussion, I did assume that you felt them game was doomed. My bad.

Hmm well, I do apologize for calling you using some disparaging marks.

totally agree. Many of PGI's policies drive me bonkers (slow weapons balance being the primary one).

My entire point is that releasing that frustration in negative ways is counterproductive AND unhealthy. Using the metaphor above, just get out of the car, or at least walk away for a while.

I doubt many people who suffer from this affliction will even see it as a problem. But it really is not a good way to handle yourself. We are all adults here, mechwarrior is one of the older populations in gaming. That is a postive thing if we act as mature as I am sure we all are in real life.

I'm almost 44. And while I do have a lot to learn as Bandito said, I also have come to a modicum of wisdom in my years. I freely admit I dont always use it, but this is one case where it seems to be exerting itself over my behavior. And i figure maybe if I reminded people of the value of maturity and being constructive, maybe, just maybe it will help.

What can I say, Im an optimist. <_<

Hello all,

There will NEVER be game balance as long as little Mech’s can carry assault class weapons. The new map allows them to sit way up high and snipe. You cannot defeat them, you can hardly see them, just saw a spyder that blended so well only found him because he shot while I was looking up. Couldn't hit him, could not spot him, but had to take the death from his ppc sniping, could not even get away. Yes my fault, should have disconnected the moment I saw the map, but figured I'd give it one more try. I like the map, but for 8 man it sucks.
All the complaints on these boards come down to just a few basic things.

1. Weapon ranges are too long.

2. little Mech’s can take on assault roles, because they can carry assault weapons. - does not pass goofy test, little tiny spider - huge honkin PPC ..ok where in that spyders skinny arm did you stuff that ppc?

3. Hit detection, and pencil point hit boxes on little Mech’s, inability to deal with refresh rates.

4. Match maker that allows for 5 Jenner’s to be put against a much heavier assault lance. -- Jenner’s decimated everyone in seconds.

5. No real desire to have a true game balance of Mech’s and weapons. If they wanted it, we would have it - - - and the forums would not have 3/4 of the posts they do complaining about the lack of game balance ... which includes this post.

A truly fun experience cannot be had while these things always loom and create frustration for even 30% of the players.

Why people think PGI isnt listening

Why not K-Town? That protected forum seems to be where all the ideas they really dont want to see go

Because this thread is not particularly bad. I don't see too much hard core trolling or name calling. Should it get too nasty, then sure , off to KTown is goes.

I'd rather people REPORT offending posts tho.

I don't see the connection between my moving a post that was in the wrong area of the forums, and "PGI not listening". But to each their own I guess.

Cheers.

There's a consistently deleterious effect on this game with every patch. With all of the crap that needs fixing the solutions bring about more problems.

From all that we've seen so far, a lot of the decisions have been.. sub-optimal, to put it gently. The truth is there's nothing we, as players, can actually do. PGI is gonna do what PGI is gonna do, and there's nothing that can be done, except an act of God.

No amount of yelling and complaining is going to help fix anything. Just stop it, everyone. The only thing we can do is clutch our hands and bite our fingers as the train wreck happens one patch at a time.

It was over a while ago. Some of us just haven't realized it. I've given up caring. You should too.
