The design concepts (MWO versions) are wrong, for example in the battlefield is very difficult to differentiate between a Quickdraw, Victor or a GB, the silhouettes are very similar.

Iv played the Golden Boy now through quite a few matches, working on just the experience to unlock the chassis efficiencies. I will say that the mech is indeed under present circumstances not designed to get into direct combat. It's size and especially its CT hitbox means that it does poorly against most mech's in straight up firefights, it's not manoevurable or nimble enough to protect the center against damage, especially against light or medium mechs.

The weapons slots/weight range means the mech does indeed have the potential to fill a medium mech niche that is lacking, but right now the only effective way I have found to utilize the GB is as a skirmisher/fire support mech utilizing LRM's as part of a group. In this role it can perform OK.

However, I am less willing to drop in this mech solo, as it is not rounded enough to be full playable without team support, this mech just can not go one on one with any mech at present.

Might improve with elite skills and speed tweak. An XL290 with alot of weapons might work decently if your a good pilot.

It's huge,

HUUUGEEEE.

I've been waiting for soooo long for a 55 medium...

If missiles is what makes the mech big (from AtD) how about making missiles the deadliest weapons? Cause balance wise, PPC + Gauss should inflate the mech imo, not SRM / LRMs.

I get lose my center torso more in the GB, than I get legged in a centurion. My Centurions get legged in almost every game.

With any short range engagement, this mech seems to hit the dirt fairly quickly. I switched the SRMs to LRMs and am having much more success.

I am very disappointed. Bought it ASAP because I was really looking forward to a new medium 'Mech.

The CT is enourmous. You can't torso twist to spread damage around. I will be hit to CT almost constantly, therefor you die very quick. Also the model does seem too big.

I would like to criticize also the stock configuration you gave to the Golden Boy. Let's see... Huge center torso, 290 engine cap, 2x20 tube and 1x15 tube launcher hardpoints... Definately not a bad *** brawler it is advertized. It is an LRM support mech! And I think this is the reason most people are angry at (and of course the size of the CT).

Basically I was promised a medium brawler, but I got a medium LRM support mech with a barn door CT that kills me fast if not staying in cover. I am very disappointed and feel like screwed.

i have had the pleasure of mastering this mech. it is slow to accelerate and stop so manoeuvrability is poor. it can not survive against any other mech in a one on one as it seems it is entirely made of a gigantic CT hit box that appears to encompass a great deal of open space around it. i have no problems turning to avoid incoming fire but it seems that the arms, legs, head and side torso transfer their damage to the CT.
i even altered it to a long range mech and although it is better i have yet to do more than 2-300 damage points with it. and that's just embarrassing.
i guess this one remains in the mech bay to look pretty or if i need a new AC20 i can sell it and write the investment off to it being a lemon.

my advice to all looking for a new mech, this ain't it.

Please fix the center torso area on this mech or offer some explanation on why its so big, I am constantly getting hit damage on the front armor from directly behind me. I never lose any other part of my mech to damage, the sad part is i have less than 10 armor on any other part, and 80 on the center to still die from center torso damage. so that means i have more armor on the center of my mech than every other part combined and still die from core damage, with an xl engine. if that was intended as part of the design or if your aware of the problem just let people know. I would rather accept that it has been done that way on purpose, than read more complaints to which you offer no response.

I now have 51 Matches played in the GB and have max 8/8 in the basic tree. As I have said earlier in this thread (see page 5) I've been trying to find something that works with this Hero Mech. As I and others have said this mech is embarrassing if doing anything other than LRM support. I settled on an XL 265 Engine, 5 LRM 5's, 6 tons ammo, 2 ML, 1 tag, AMS+ammo with max armor and 52/20 CT. This gives me 42.5 Volleys, but once that is gone or I'm forced to fight any other mech, I'm doomed. I have 80% K/D ratio in spite of 35 CT deaths. (K:D 28/35) I have yet to lose a leg, arm, or Rt/Lt.

Here is the build I am running:
GOLDEN BOY

I like the hard points, the styling, and the custom camo. A big thumbs up to the design team for at least making the mech look cool.

But his is how I feel if I'm anywhere near short range fighting.

That is cool that some are having some luck with it as LRMs they specifically design and make a video, about this elite short range mech, it was all hype.

You tell them Necro...

Meanwhile, grinding my new KTO variants to mastery is putting a serious hurt on my K/D ratio.

hero mechs cost too much

the mech is too big to even want to buy normal variants or level

CT the size of an atlas :)

reasons why i wont waste my time or money on this 55 tonner.

Heya :)

I am also a new owner of the KTO-GB. I personally like the look of the mech and I think, it´s a good addition to the game.
But I also have to admit that I never died so fast due to CT damage in my one year experience of MWO. I hope, that the dev rethink the CT-area, because otherwise the GB is forced to be a LRM-Boat in the background, which would be quite sad. It´s a cool variant of a cool chassis.
Please, PGI, take a look at the hitboxes ;)
Thanks in advance

Well i had high hopes for this one.

Loved the loadout and the art. But beside being able to watch it in the garage its
pretty much terrible.

Its as big as a Assault, with terrible hitboxes and no amo to speak of.
Add this to the, fixable, low Base speed and you got something with all the disadvantages of a medium and Assault combined without any of its strengths.

Would love to get reimbursed on that one.

MWO should be ashamed for building such a crappy mech. First of all it is no brawler yet it is set up as one. Second of all it is huge.

I have many different set ups for it. most are ranged since as soon as you are seen you get killed.

DO NOT BUY THIS MECH!!!!! OR ITS VARIANTS!!!!! It is to much of a target for a med mech. To weak for its size and dies to quickly. It has no advantage that would make it worth spending real money on. I know i am sorry i did.
