The maketing sucks because they could have had alot MORE people laying down the cash if they had waited till after open beta so people knew what they were getting. As it is they are absolutly LOSING sales becaus of this. Its not that most of us dont have cash....I WANT to give them my money......but all we want is to see what we are getting first.

As for this being a PROPER mechwarrior/battletech game waits to be seen. For all I know its another steaming pile of crap. Very little info and they ALREADY want my money..........

You fail to see the point. They need that money NOW to fund the game and polish it up for release so that it isn't a "steaming pile of crap" like you suggest. This is the entire point of Founders and most pre-orders. Your logic seems to be that you'd rather them rush it out the door unfinished, like most other companies do with video games, and it suck.

This is not a gimmick either. They need funding and they are then rewarding you for your support with great value post release and open beta access. If you don't like any of this... then don't buy Founders. Wait until release then piggyback on the F2P. Problem solved. But don't come complaining later when you want our perks but didn't have the guts to risk buying Founders like we did.

well some said that 60 is afw movies, dinner etc...all goood and money can be tight especially for students with low end to mid range taco bell style associate jobs...but i see it as once the 60 is spnt on dinner and movies its gone and you have to spend another 60 at some point...at least once mwo is out i can come play everyday if possible but not practical without spending more <though i know i probably will.

i continueing good time...and get a bottle of cognac.

I think people have been getting confused with early access and head start.

The post earlier stated that there isn't goign to be a head start just the game going live, which makes sense as the game will have different pressure placed on it during launch rather than getting people out of newbie zones such as the RPG's do.

People don't seem to get it. The August access IS the open beta. What is going on before then is a CLOSED beta, meaning you can sign up but most likely won't see a slot. Open=Either everyone that signs up gets in or can buy their way in.(In this case you'll buy your way in for 30, 60, or 120$) Closed=Random invites but very limited slots, aka you'll never get one.

I'm sorry Bluten, but August 7th isn't open beta. Russ have already clarify that 7 August is the latest date that Founders can expect to get invited to the closed beta. The open beta date for public has not been announced yet.

What IS confusing is that they have also stated there will be no reset after Aug 7, which is puzzling because MWO would still be in beta then B)

Closed Beta -> Early Access (to closed beta) -> Open Beta -> Release

You forgot one part of that "Closed Beta -> Early Access (to closed beta) -> Open Beta -> Release" ->Error 37

I can't quote the post (well I prolly could do a search but am lazy) but I do remember 1 of the devs saying that there would NOT be a server wipe after august 7th when all the founders are allowed access, so all their stuff will carry over to the final release or whatever the heck ya wanna call it.

I feel like there is a consistent misunderstanding about what the founders packs are. The founders packs are not meant to mean you are "Buying" the game. It was the devs asking for money, seeing the popularity, and rewarding those who are willing to give them money without playing the game. The fact that people feel they have the right to always play a game before spending money on it still have that opportunity. Wait for open beta then decide. For those of us that spent money on the faith that the game will be worth every penny and more, I would hope we feel that our faith should be rewarded with perks that are available to us alone. I would fully expect other deals to be offered as release nears but as a Founder the only permanent perks we get are the c-bill boosts on the mechs. The other perks (in game money, xp boosts, and mechs) are available after launch. If you feel you want to play the game first, hold on to your money. The founders packs were meant to be used by a specific crowd and they were and will be. If you dont want to spend your money dont, but don't complain about not getting the same reward as you had much less risk involved.

not even funny, PGI is not Blizzard and the fact that Open Beta is open to everyone it'd be far more likely to have login/servers issues then than during actual "release"

Its that kind of thinking that makes me think that as much as I love battletech/mechwarrior I might have to give this game a very wide pass. Poor marketing and punishing those of us who are careful with our money seems to me to be a game not worth a true fans time.

There is no way that you will give this game a pass. It's free to play so it would be impossible for a fan of the genre to pass. That being said there is no doubt that there will be many forum posts once the game is released stating how unfair it is to all the people with no disposable income.

I am just curious if this game will be followoing the usual progression of

Closed Beta > Open Beta > Live Early Access (Founders packs) > Live

I ask because I do want to purchase a Founders Pack if the game is good enough to warrant it. But Since I am assuming no closed beta just due to the numbers of people who want vrs spots available. I am really relying on an open beta to ascertain if this game is worth the pack.

Without a Open Beta I have to wait till the game goes live and am not sure if the founders will be available after it goes live.
From my understanding and from what the Devs have said it will go something like this...
Closed beta... Closed beta 2 (acceptance of some founders buyers as new beta testers)... August 7th (still Closed Beta 2) but ALL Founders pack buyers will be excepted as beta testers... Open beta (unknown how long it will last)... Launch (unknown launch date as of now)

There is a way to give it a pass......not play it it. We all have money. I have plenty of it. Wont blow it on a game sight unseen. And for this I have to play with one foot in the hole?? Im highly competitive so I wont play that way. So easy pass.

In what way would you possibly be at a disadvantage for not having the Founders pack? You can still get everything a Founder could, except for the special skin on their mech and the 25% in-game credit earning bonus (which is only good on those four mechs - do you think we will only use those for all time?)?

Its free to play after all - even if you thought you might somehow be at a disadvantage, you could at least try it without losing anything but a little of your time. It seems silly to throw away a chance at fun without even trying it :/

You are viewing it backwards. It's meant to reward you for supporting them and taking a risk... not punish you for being money smart. But if you don't like it, don't do it. It's your money. But it sure seems like a stupid reason to me to entirely "pass" the game by. You could, at the very least, invest a mere 30$. You said you have a lot of money, love battletech, but will still pass up the game entirely because you don't agree with Founders. I have to say that is moronic. Beyond that I have to wonder why you are even here, on this forum, if you have 0 intent on ever even playing the game.

Life's unfair to people with no disposable income. Innit. :)

*EDIT* And what's all this about one foot in a hole? For god's sake it's a coloured tag & a fancy coloured mech.

First anyone knew it was gonna be Mechwarrior 5, some random, single player campaign that's finished in a weekend & just wasting more space in your "never to be opened again" stack of DVDs and you were all as happy as Larry with that.

Now, you're going to be able to play for years to come, against real people not sheisty AI, with almost infinate variey of opponents, with a Dev team who will be releasing more & more gear as time goes on.

So what if some random founder out there in the ether somewhere gets a few more C-Bills per match, it's no skin off anyone else's nose.
There's a reason it's not called GetRichWarrior, it's about killin' mechs, not having a fat pretend bank account of money that's not even real.

*EDIT* Sorry to come off sounding mardy, it's late & I just can't understand the mentality of some people so it's easy to sound more miserable than you are.

Regardless of whatever smart wording people use to justify asking for money without actually showing much of what's being sold for said money, at this point I feel like I was scammed out of $60.

WoT had it right for both the pre-order and afterwards. To this day I've spent roughly $150 on that game and I *always* knew I was going to get my money's worth before making the purchase, because I was given the opportunity to try everything I later bought *before* I was asked to spend my money.

Then, at the risk of sounding obstinate, why did you part with the money if you felt it was a scam?

No offence or anything, honest question. :)

Too bad you wont get the chance to test before you buy the pack. As stated 1,000,000 times before, the pack is for the diea hard fans of the series, every true fan will buy it (if they can afford). If you want to test the game before you buy it, then wait for their next promotion. Founders packages are for true fans.

When it's all said and done I just want to enjoy a good game. I know I have purchased many games that were just not very good, and I have very high hopes here. So I can't wait, and they have my money! As someone else said in the string "it's a nice night out / or a movie or two", so bring it on!! :)
