So... I bought the Heavy Metal mostly because I wanted a C-Bill farming machine and I really like rock music. I really like it, so now I want to buy two more variants so I can maximize the efficiencies. Suggestions?

It really depends.

If you like to poptart take the 732.
If you like to play around with an AC20 take the 733C.
If you like missiles take the 733.
If you prefer energy based weapons take the 733P.

Overall i thing that the HM is the best Highlander. 2 ppcs and a gauss in THE ARMS? Yes please!
The 733C is my close 2nd, cause the AC20 and the rest of his loadout make it an awesome brawler.
And as i love me some LURMS, i would vote the 733 as the third best highlander.

Sadly i did get the 732 in a sale.... but it can missile boat quite ok, too

I have exactly the same problem. Currently I'm thinking of 733P and 733C. 733P, because it has four energy hardpoints, so it is possible to pack plenty of missiles with some backup lasers. 733C, purely because of AC20 possibility, which the other variants don't have.

732 and 733 are not bad either, but boating three PPCs with 732 or four SRMs with 733 is not so attractive any more because of the heat penalties.

I have the HM, 733P and 733C. My P has artemis fitted for the times I drop lrm's on it with backup lasers, or swap the missiles out for ppc's & LLAS. The C carries the ac/20, 2ml, and 3srm6 for the brawl fun! My HM carries 2x AC/5, 2x SRM6 and 3xMLAS.

The 733P has become my lrm highlander of choice, 2 lrm 20, 1 lrm 15 (w/ arty) with 3 medium lasers and tag. However, the 733 also makes an excellent lrm boat just with less close defense.

Running the 733C, I find it a bit tricky to use. Huge ballistic hardpoint just wants an AC20, but you struggle to get enough speed to really make the best use of it. Versatile chassis, but you might be better off with a gauss build.

I use the HM and the 733C, but I wouldn't put 3 srm6 on it.
I got the 733P for elite but it runs too hot. Maybe when clan tech comes available it will be more useful.

got the HM first and I love it, especialy the all range setup i have (3 LLas, gauss, 2 srm 6), got the 733C second and I made it somewhat a brawler (AC20, LRM 20, 2x SRM6 , 2x MLas or LLas), now i'm saving up for a 733P for the PPC sniping or LRM boating purposes.

For me it's 733>732>733C>733P.

In the end I've never found much use of te P, while I own all the other three. I don't have the HM though, and I don't even plan to buy it. I rarely have/keep more than 3 variants of the same chassis, these Highlanders deserve their triplet in my hangar. Even Atlases lost their 3x status (I got rid of the RS), so far only HBKs, Cataphracts, Highlanders, Catapults (they may lose it soon though) and Stalkers got it.

Didn't want to start a new thread, but can someone suggest how to improve this 733C?

I was going to reply with exactly the same build as Fuzzy above until I looked at his and realized that great minds etc etc.

Only thing different was that I would recommend getting Artemis. It takes up no tonnage, but if you have nothing but ssrm2s and lots of cash, it will double your lock-on speed without taking up crits or weight, and that's all it does. It's currently considered to be a bug that it does this, but given that the devs have known about it for at least eight months and haven't fixed it (probably because it would require ssrms to lock independently of lrms) it's fairly safe to assume that it will stick around for at least two more. Might not sound like much, but when your target is going 150kph, that few seconds of lock on time make a huge difference.

My favourite Highlander would be the 732 (3LL, Gauss and 2xSRM4 with an XL300) but the upcoming Gauss nerf might change that. 733C is probably the most versatile of the lot. The 733P is rather tricky to use if you're not into missiles because packing enough hard-hitting beam weapons to match the other variants with their mixed ballistic/energy loadouts is very hard.It just seems to run a little too hot no matter what combination I try. Can't comment on the 733 as I do not own it.

With the upcoming nerf (firing delay) to the Gauss Rifle, which will render it useless for quick shots and hard to use for close-in work, the 733C is the clear winner. The 733P can work if you love energy builds and don't mind the heat, but the 2 Gauss-wield Highlanders (733 and 732) get hit by this nerf more than the others.

I've been mucking around with my 733, trying to keep it useful without a Gauss Rifle, with 3 SRM6's, an LBX-10 shotgun in the right arm, and a PPC (oh, no's!) in the right torso. Endo, DHS, Standard 300, 2 jump jets. It's working pretty well now, though this build can be duplicated in any other model with more flexibility.

Note that I believe all Highlanders still suffer from the "phantom NARC tube" in the left torso that mucks up SRM shots fired from that area in certain conditions, so keep that in mind, too.
