Not that I want to start an argument or anything, but were you expecting transformable mechs? Spaceship battles and Skyrim-esque dungeon crawling? This is Battletech, mech on mech focus. So to an extent, the game WILL be kind of like this for the next X years. The only thing that will change is that they will add new stuff like bases and asymetric warfare and new maps and new mechs and new paint schemes. That's all.

If you expect a game to be totally transformed from what it was 2 years ago, I would say that it's a little unrealistic. What I find to be very realistic is that content delivery needs to be done at a much quicker pace than it is done now. The only thing that is anthing remotely resembling quick right now is the mech delivery and even that is a little slow. CW, DX11, Clans and all other bells and whistles should have been done long ago.

I don't expect the game to be different from what it was at open beta launch, I just expect it to have more attractions. To put it bluntly, I don't go to an ammusment parc to experience new things, I go there to experience the rides, what I expect is that they add new ones as the years go by...

Lol mate. You look like a newcomer. So you may have missed a lot of things about MWO.
The game was announced to have 4 "pillars". Community Warfare is one of them, and the most important imo as it makes the game different than your average online deatmatch game.
So about this game, YOU are wrong : it's not a attraction parc. Hawken may be more your dope.
That's also why you see so many vocals people on the forum : same for any game based on famous licence I guess (saw that for Lord of the Ring online or Star Wars Galaxies).
(and btw, Transformable Mechs DO belong to the original Battletech Lore : the Landing Air Mechs. That mech coming soon part of their kinda founder 2 pack (phoenix), the Phoenix Hawk is supposed to exist in a LAM version (5 tons heavier if memory serves). Also from memory, Wasp and Valkyrie are also LAM.)

Cool, so the Launch Event thread is becoming yet another 3pv QQ thread or what?

Event was good, tournament was fun, swag was decent (very decent for Team Tiger) and the food and beer was cold (well, got it 50% right, lol). And free. Did I mention free beer? Lots of it?

My only complaints would be my team losing in the initial round (boO! BOOOOO!) and that I never got to try the Dr Pepper marinated wings.

Umm.... think about it. :)

Well I can't. In both cases, the scout is safely scouting. Either that or my headache is most certainly interfering with my cognitive functions -- which is why I just stayed home today (i.e. I get paid to think).

How different is that from a scout behind enemy lines relaying intel to his team while powered down and unseen? Based on your comment, my hiding/scouting places are still safe to use.

because you can still be seen and shot at?

I thought I'd wait out the food line but it was a bad idea because it ran out quick. Had to make up the loss of calorific intake with beer and PPCs.

I have rarely been discovered in some of my hiding places, much less shot at, not in my itsy bitsy spider anyway.

On the other hand, I wouldn't dare use 3PV while doing my thing simply because of that blinking and highly visible drone.

Yes, the PPC scored a critical hit

Twas a fun little launch. Wish we had advanced with Team Phranken, but was 10/12 with a solid finish. Just happy to have been able to compete. Met a lot of my fellow mechwarriors, thought the plan for UI 2.0 and Community Warfare were nicely laid out.

Also, kudos to Team Tiger, for their win. High drama in that last match.

Grats guys, that was definitely a good game (I was on Team Patriots)! I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you guys in person, but when the match was over and I was finished talking to my team, everyone on Team Phranken had already vacated their seats and mixed back into the crowd.

I was surprised to find that we only needed one substitute, as there were a couple of players on our team that had little to no forum activity and zero posts, which... if we couldn't reach them through the forums, there was pretty big "?" as to if they even knew about the event.

We made it to the second round, where as soon as I heard Daeron saying that they were viewing from my perspective, my screen froze. Garth nearly jumped over the bank of computers to unfreeze me, but in those few seconds we were already getting spread too thin... And then another on my team started lagging out. We were not actually on a LAN. We were playing on the test servers. (which is probably why the test servers haven't been available to us.

The rest of the party was pretty great. It was pretty cool to see Randall Bills, and Jordan Weisman was there too, upstairs in the roped-off VIP section (although I thought it was weird he wasn't announced and he never came down from there)... I wish I had taken pics :)

I do wish that there was a little more detail on Merc Units (like how many people required to start one, any Premium subscription requirement, etc.), but I did find that Merc Units will have Dropships and upgradeable bases to augment captured planets very interesting... as well as the info on how faction-player outcomes in controlling "fronts" will unlock new planets for Mercs to get contracts for.

but you could still be spotted and fired upon if the enemy team is playing strategic and looking for those pesky scouts that are actually good at their job. If you're hidden behind a hill the enemy team has no fair chance to see you, fire upon you, and discourage you from scouting. Essentially it's a risk free scouting mechanism

It's not risk free. You have no access to your map so you can't tell if someone is sneaking up behind you. And once they core out your rear armor, it takes a few seconds to get back in the cockpit so you can respond.

So you just have someone on your team watch your back while you scout and no risk

I think you're forgetting about that blinking 3PV drone visible a mile away even in daylight.

Now if only artillery and air strikes did much more than just tickle the enemy ...

Back on topic. The launch event was great. Sad to say we placed second (go team cobra!) but team tiger put up a tough fight and squeaked out the win.

It was good to see that there was a substantial amount of interested and vested participants in the launch event and even though things didn't go perfectly it was a fun experience (Next time more chairs!). Maybe I'll even be on the winning team next time lol. So far a 3rd place (@nvidia) and a 2nd place (@north am) makes me feel that there is a definite opportunity for competitive play once the game supports tournaments a little better (we cheered every time a sync launch worked properly if that tells you anything)

Thanks again to PGI and all the sponsors. Good to meet the rest of the team as well. Looking forward to collecting the bounty on Garth and Paul's heads when the contract system goes in.

That was fun. I got trashed. Played Games. Really appreciate all the hard work the MWO team did putting it together. Must have been a lot of organizing!

the problem was that they were sync dropping, should never happen at a tournament

They were sync dropping for dramatic effect. It wasn't necessary.

It wasn't really the game that was breaking either it was player error and hardware failures
